ELEVEN

Eilla threw her face into her hands, embarrassed by her uncontrollable crying. She felt terrible for so many reasons, he mind could not comprehend them and she felt entirely empty, just a vessle for the tears to flow from. She could see Ben's feet from through her fingers and she wished he would either leave or make love to her.

"If you won't go with me, there's really no reason we should be together," Ben said plainly, but instantly after he finished the sentence, his lip began to quiver almost as badly as Eilla's.

Eilla was already bawling with such effort that the sentence hardly entered into her head, and processing his ultimatum was impossible. Ben screamed inside of himself for her to throw herself into his arms and welcome him again like she had moments before in front of her door. He wanted to forget this entire episode and bury his lips in her, to run his hands over her whole body and wake up next to her in the morning with their bare skin stuck together from a sweaty night. He wanted to hear her complain when it was time to get out of bed. He wanted that now, and he wanted that to be with him even if it couldn't be here. He cursed her privately for not fulfilling this for her.

Later that night, Eilla found herself on the same couch, talking to another man who was infuriating her. Theo was there listening half-heartedly, insisting on texting Casey between lowly lines of inspiration. Eilla didn't even explain all of the complicated details after realizing Theo was hardly listening. "Just go," she finally demanded. Too tired to be upset, she accepted his apology for being absent and he left with a hug that actually made Eilla feel a little better.

Ben had left earlier with many open ends. They had accomplished nothing. He had gone home to lie in bed and have a few beers. His phone was off, his tv was muted and his head was pounding, he just needed to think. Eilla had called Theo almost immediately, but that was no help. She had mascara still in thin streaks on her cheeks and had solved nothing because of Theo's obsession with his new girlfriend. She didn't know what else to do.
