Chapter 11
Mini Chapter
---
After hours (okay, not hours, but it feels that way) Cole and Anna-Marie let go of each other, both smiling. I couldn’t help but smile too, as if everything we just learned was my own business as well.
And, in a way, Cole made it mine, when I fell for him.
Ohhh . . . did I just think that, while I’m smiling and looking at his mother? I think I’m blushing, because now she’s giving me a strange look.
Great, now Cole’s looking at me.
“Boy, are you okay?”
That’s it; I’m dead embarrassed. The old guy behind the cash register is even looking at me. Want to bet he heard the whole story too!
“I’m fine,” I yelled, “just have to go to the bathroom,” I said, getting up and rushing away from everyone.
Oh, that’s wonderful, Kyle. Way to break a family reunion. You couldn’t just keep your thoughts . . .
Okay, must stop talking to myself!
I’m getting crazier and crazier and I blame him! Grr . . .
He’s lucky he’s so hot . . .
God, he’s hot . . .
“Kyle.”
I shrieked, jumping a mile high when someone laid a hand on my shoulder, just stopping me from entering the bathroom. I spun around, to see Cole looking at me with an expression I didn't have the vocabulary to describe.
“Yes?” I asked, my voice high and squeaky.
“Mom’s left already . . . ”
Huh?
“She had an interview for a job . . . she’s really going to be making a life here . . . ”
I smiled, “That’s great. For you and Allison and your dad . . . uh, grandfather . . . ” I said, unsure.
Cole grinned, “It’s strange learning he’s not my birth father, but he’s still my father, ya know? He raised me and Allison.”
I nodded, “yeah . . . ”
“So my father is my mother’s father . . . ” Cole said, chuckling.
“That sounds like the next Jerry Springer theme . . . ”
“Remind me to never make fun of the people on that show again. To think things like this happen in real life!” Cole shook his head. “So much drama . . . just hearing it all leaves me drained . . . ”
Hehe . . .
Smirking, I leaned up, standing on my tip toes. Come on, I mean, did I mention I was short!? “Too drained for even a kiss?” I asked, innocently blinking. Ha! Me, innocent?
Yeah right.
Cole grinned, “here, in a café, by the bathroom?” he asked, though I could tell he liked the idea.
I acted hurt, “well, if you don’t want to, forget I offered.”
Turning away from him, I reached out for the bathroom door handle, grinning when I was grabbed from behind.
“Hey, who said I didn’t want to?” Cole asked, nuzzling my neck with his chin. It sent shivers down my spine, I tell you!
I turned, looking up at him, “you do?”
“Yeah and I don’t care who sees,” he said, leaning down to gently place his lips on mine.
