Chapter 11
Valuchek is watching while some vampires repair the work on the window in his lair. "That blasted old man will die slowly for this. I have a feeling I know him from some where."
"Master they are at the tattoo parlor do we attack and bring her back?" A young vampire says walking in to the room.
"No she will come back tomorrow night. Let her fight but make sure she is knocked out before she is brought to me here." Valuchek says as the vampire’s finish and leave. Everyone else follows them knowing their master wants to be alone. He walks over to the bed and lies down on his side smelling the sent of Victoria. "You shall be mine my dear. You will be mine." He says falling asleep with the coming of noon.
I wake up at about one o'clock and walk in to the back and find Mornick working on some weapons. "Why are you back here I thought you had to be open." I say shocked to see him.
"I don't have to be." He says looking at me as I pass him for the coffee pot. "What is that on your leg?" He stops working and stares at the scare on my leg.
"I got that in a car accident when I was..."
"Ten." He finishes for me. I turn around quickly almost spilling my coffee.
"How did you know that?" I ask.
He gets up and walks to a bookcase. He picks up a book. "This is the book of Logan. This tells the true story of the vampire hunter." He walks over and puts the book on the table turned to a page with a picture on it.
"That girl is pretty." I say admiring the picture.
"That was his niece." He turns the page. "It is said that the mark of a cross only having the bottom half plus the left and right parts is the symbol of the masters bride. His niece and her parents were returning home from a trip to town when another struck their carriage. Her parents were killed and this symbol was burned in to her skin. This was also said to be the symbol of Satan so she was thought of as a witch later in life. She was burned at the stake when she was your age. Her name was the same as yours. You are her reincarnation."
I stare at him for a minute. "No way, I can not be her. My uncle was not a vampire hunter." I say.
"No he retired when you came to live with him. This time Valuchek knows you will not be burned for being a witch so." He says.
"I have no choose. My fate is sealed to be his bride." I say.
"Yes but you might be able to kill him. That is why I am going with you." He says. I go to protest but he hushes me. "No I am going and that is final." I finally agree with him reluctantly. We start getting the weapons ready for that night. A few hours before sunset he goes out to get us something to eat. I am sitting with the book turned to the page of the young girl. I read the story that is attached. 'Logan knowing what would happen when she grew up told her what would happen and she agreed to the plan. He allowed his niece to be brought up on charges of witchcraft and watched as she slowly burned to death. She never uttered a word of protest to it for she knew that dieing like this would be more honorable than becoming the mistress of a vampire. Valuchek knew of her existence and went to claim his prize but found her still burning body and Logan. Valuchek infuriated that the hunter had taken his bride killed the man who let her burn. A body was never found. Many think he is still alive.'
"You are so much like my Victoria." I hear Mornick say.
I turn around and see him standing in the doorway. "What?"
"They never found my body because there was none. I was turned in to half a vampire." He walks over and turns the page of the book to a picture of Logan. It is his face. "The master thought the best punishment was to make me half a vampire so that I would see you become his bride then kill me." He traces my face with his finger. "The reason you sleep so long when you are here is because of my mind influence. I can walk during the day but I must keep in the shadows when the highest point of the sun comes. That is why I knew where you were. Your scent leads me to you. Valuchek knew I would come but he did not count on me giving you my cross." He says picking up the chain and dropping it back down.
"But how can you handle the cross with out burning yourself?" I ask confusion going through me.
"I am only half a vampire. I can do everything a human can do but I do have some vampire follies. I have their strength, speed, hearing and sight. But I can survive without drinking blood." He opens the bag he had put down before he spoke. "Chinese ok." He says tossing me a set of chopsticks.
"Yea." I walk over and get a box and eat the noodle right out of the box. "I am going to take hot soak while I eat." He nods and starts working on getting more stuff together. I walk in to the bathroom and run some hot water in to the tub. I watch the steam rise. I do up my hair so it would not get wet and undress. I turn off the water and step in to the water. I wait a moment then grab the box of noodles and finish it off. I put down the empty box and stare at the wall for a few minutes. It was only a month ago I was doing the same thing in my apartment before Jack came to the door and my life went topsy-turvy. I get out of the tub and dry myself off. I wrap a dry towel around myself and walk out of the bathroom. "You do know you have just made this harder for me." I say walking past Mornick.
"How is that?" He asks looking up as I pass him.
I walk in to the other room and grab a shirt and a pair of pants that were hanging on a chair. "Well, what am I suppose to call you?"
"What do you mean what are you suppose to call me?" He says.
"Well is it Logan or Mornick?" I ask putting on my shirt, pants and boots.
"I have not been called Logan for a long time." He says.
I walk out of the room and lean against the door jam. "Well I guess its Mornick." He looks up and his eyes widen. My pants are black leather that is like a second skin, my shirt scoops down showing my cleavage and my hair is down.
"What is that?" He asks.
"This is my kicking ass outfit." I say. "Now lets go kick some vampire ass." I say grabbing my trench coat. He grabs a folded up bandana and puts it around his head. We grab the four bags of equipment and leave the parlor for the warehouse for the battle of a lifetime.
