Chapter 10

Jae woke up at 8, jumped in the shower and quickly threw on a pair of nice jeans and a tank top. She didn’t know what type of outfit Chase expected her to wear for whatever work he planned to give her for the day but she figured that this was the best she should do. She didn’t look professional but she did look ready to work.
She went down into the kitchen and started to make some eggs when there was a knock on the door.
“Yea?” Jae asked as she walked to the door.
“It’s Chase” Chase said from the other side.
Jae quickly opened the door and stood there staring as she watched Chase walk in. Chase was followed by a workman with a cart.
“Jae, where is your office?” Chase asked.
“What? Office . . . oh it’s just down that hall. My apartment has the same layout as yours”
“Oh ok. Bob, go on down the hall and to the first room on the right. You can set this all up”
“Chase, what is going on?”
“This is your equipment.”
“I can’t afford that stuff.”
“But I can and I believe you need this to do your job for me. So you will have it and no arguments.”
“Oh . . . Well I guess.”

Chase looked at Jae, she looked so lost, he thought. He set his breifcase on the counter and opened it. Then he pulled some papers out of it then set them on the table as Jae went back to her cooking. She quietly broke open a few more eggs for Chase to join her. This was going to be an interesting day.
Jae cooked all the food and thought, why are we working here instead of at his place? Seems a little weird since I am doing whatever work he wants me to do. I guess I would be more comfortable here rather than over there. Plus here I can play whatever music I want and stop and get whatever food I want to eat. This should make me more comfortable and want to actually do my job.

“Ok, you hungry,” Jae asked as she scooped up eggs on to plates.
“I thought you would never ask” Chase said as he pulled out a chair and sat down. Jae got out another plate and set of silverware, then dished out the food. She handed Chase his plate as she pulled out a chair for herself.

Once they finished eating, Jae cleaned up the kitchen as Chase went to see how Bob was doing with setting up everything. Chase came back out followed by Bob, announcing that everything was ready for them to get to work. Jae sighed as she stood by the kitchen table. Was she ready for this? She didn’t want to ruin the some what friendship that they already had. Oh, well, she thought, not much she could do about it now. She needed the money she would make by working for Chase.
Chase stood and looked at Jae, she seemed nervous. There was never anything to be nervous about while he was around, some how he wanted to explain that to her, but when he opened his mouth to let her know nothing came out. He didn’t want her to know he was interested in her, in any way except work for the moment. No matter what he wanted her to trust him first and then go from there.
Jae looked at anything except Chase, she was nervous. She wanted him; he stood there in his khaki pants and blue polo shirt. He was just handsome, he didn’t even have to talk and Jae was about to cream her panties. She never had this type of reaction to a male, ever! She did not know how to handle it at all; maybe that was why she kept pushing him away. She was so scared that he would just say one word and she would jump his bones!
“Jae. . .Earth to Jae” Chase said as he waved a hand in front of her face.
“What” Jae asked,”I’m sorry did you say something”
“Yea . . . you okay?”
“Yep, just peachy, why?”
“ You looked a million miles away”
“Oh, sorry, just some thoughts, what’s up?”
“Lets get started, I’m going to show you the system Bob set up and then I have some errands for you to go on, if you want”
“Sure”

A few hours later, Jae was finally leaving the apartment, well about to leave. Chase kept giving her last minute details on where she was going and what to drop off. He made her repeat everything that he said, so that he knew that she knew where and what the papers were going and if she had to wait there or not.
Finally Jae was about to walk out the door, when Chase told her to wait a minute. Jae stood in her doorway, sighing loudly. Chase walked up to her grinning. He pulled her close and kissed her. As soon as it started it was over, Jae stood there stunned for a second, and then she turned and left her apartment. Chase called out to her, that he was ordering dinner for them tonight and when she was done with the errands to just come on over to his place. Jae yelled back that it was fine and continued on her way.
Once she was in her car and driving, her system finally calmed down. She had to go all the way across town. She stopped at the stop light and patiently waited for the light to turn green, she was in the front of the line so hopefully it would not take her too long to get where she wanted to go. As soon as the light turned green Jae pulled out into the intersection. She heard brakes squeal and glanced to the right, then back to the left and screamed. Then everything went black.
