I Love You
Cu-kid: Thanks for the adive, I\'m not confident I followed it but I can say that you will see some emotions, big time, in this chapter.
Josette, Sammo_00, Ava, glad you (didn\'t) like him, (beams proudly)
Regina was thrust brutally back into consciousness when she smashed into the ground. Though it really felt more like the ground had smashed into her.
“Regina! Oh my god, Regina, Regina” she felt hands delicately shaking her with the strength of a hamster. She fuzzily focused on Casey’s face. Casey. Casey was supposed to catch her from the throw, Casey and… Jen. She blearily focused on Jen, who quickly arranged her features into concern. She mentally snorted. Like that bitch would mind if I broke my leg… Still, she’d never drop me, and Casey, sweet little, adoring Casey, sure as a hell wouldn’t… no wait, I didn’t… the split, then I was supposed to land with my feet at shoulder width but they weren’t…. why –
It came rushing back, unpleasantly.
“Oh my God!” Devin! She screamed mentally. She pushed up, swaying and pushed off the hands that were reaching out to her. She managed to run, the last thing she heard from behind her;
“she’s like, psychic, she was falling before they even got Jimmy…”

Regina’s shoes slapped on the hall as she ran flat out for the nurses office, which was conveniently station behind and with an adjoining door to the football changing room.
The nurses ‘room’ was practically a hospital. Along with the football field and changing room, it was pristine and didn’t have just a nurse, it had its own doctor. The Bears were notorious for their sadistic coach and brutal playing, and it was joked that the money for their little personal clinic had come from their local opposing teams, wanting to have medical assistance close by when their players were squished into the ground by them.
She ducked through the crowd of people in the ‘waiting room’ and neatly accosted the young resident assisting their doctor that year as he was heading toward Jimmy’s parents.
He looked mildly surprised, then blushed. He had peach fuzz and baby blue eyes.
She yanked his head toward hers and demanded “where is he?”
“Uh... wha- um… I can’t –”
“Where is he?!”
He squeaked. “I’m not all–” his eyes widened at her look. “There are two but –”
“Two? Devin Williams” he looked blank. “Skinny, dark hair –”
“Okay, okay, he’s in Room 2, but I have to go now, I’ll get in trouble if I –” she focused on his trembling mouth pushed him away. “Go” And boy did he, though she was already squeezing through the crowd.
She found Room 2 and peeked in.
Two people were leaning over the bed and she couldn’t see him. “And all the while this motherfucker’s whopping about his son’s sprained finger and Mr. Call-me-doctor Holloway is trying to decide what to kiss first, the boy’s finger or his father’s ass – Excuse me honey, you can’t be in here”
Regina had never learned to follow orders and she barreled in.
“Devin? Dev– what’s wrong with him?” she fiercely asked the woman.
“He’s got bruised ribs and we’re treating him for a concussion. He’ll be fine”
“A concussion? But those can lead to brain–“
“Relax sweetie, it ain’t ER.” she did relax, a little, at the comforting idleness the woman was cloaked in.
The door opened again. “Lily, Hank, the was a fight between the teams, several players are injured”
Lily shook her head and muttered something sounding like ‘football’. “How many?”
“Four needing attention” Lily swore.
“He’ll be fine and he has plenty of drugs” she called to Regina and a second later she was alone with Devin.
Feeling emotionally exhausted she dropped into the chair next to the bed. She looked to see if he really okay and he was watching her.
“D-did you worry?” his voice was weavy from drugs.
“And why the hell would I do that?” she asked snidely.
He tried to shrug. “You’re here.”
“You are such a dumb fuck. Why were on that field?”
“As it happens on I’m on the football team, which you might know if you knew of my existence” he managed to mumble.
“So yes, tell me about you being a football player. Uh, why?”
He looked away for a moment and then dragged his gave back to her face, her beautiful face even through his haze.
“To please you”
“What?” her voice was disbelieving.
“To please you” he said louder.
Regina’s emotions were bubbling, bubbling hot and deadly. “NO, you didn’t!”
He looked at her. She’d stood up. “No, you did not, you son of a bitch, you did NOT join for me!!”
“Yes, I did”
Her lips shook. “Don’t you DARE pull this on me, you joining that team had nothing to do with me!”
“I love you!” his eyes pleaded hers.
“NO YOU DON’T! How can you?!”
“I know you don’t love Jimmy, you don’t even like him! But it’s okay that you’re dating him, I understa-”
“No you don’t! You DON’T understand, I’m not your poor little damsel in distress! You think I’m stupid and sweet, too DUMB to know better! There is one reason and one reason only I’m dating Jimmy, because I WANT too, but you, you’re on the fucking football team because of your father so whose the one with the problem?!!” the room was deathly silent after her torrent.
Jimmy’s eyes were glimmering. “I love you for you. You liked me once, we had fun together then, why–”
Regina voice was hoarse from yelling.
“Because you’re WEAK!”
As soon as she said the words she wanted to undo it, to take back the words. She felt a strange pain in her chest as she watched a tear spill from under Devin’s lowered lashes.
His eyes raised to hers and she stumbled back into the door, fumbling with the doorknob and running out of the room.
