Chapter 11

Queen raced down the hall of the hospital. She wore nothing but a short night gown and trench coat. Bobby could hear her yelling from down the hall. “Where is he? Where’s my son?!” Nurses came and took the frantic Queen to the ICU. Bobby had called her first when he reached the hospital. He had been treated for his bruises and cuts. His entire torso was wrapped and he felt so sore. But that was nothing compared to what his lover was going through. *He had gone so long without his inhaler. I hope he makes it. Please be ok.* bobby had also called his parents and they were on their way. Being the victim of a hate crime wasn’t exactly how he wanted his parents to find out the truth about him.

Bobby had waited for hours to find out about Oliver. During which, his parents came and they wanted to know what happened. “Me and Oliver got beat up. He had an asthma attack and they refused to give him his inhaler.” Bobby started to sob. “Now, I don’t know what’s happened to him.”

“Who beat you?” Skip asked his son.

“Martin and the guys.”

“What? Why?”

Before Bobby could answer, a nurse came out the ICU doors. “Are you Bobby?”

“Yes.”

“Come with me please.”

Bobby got up, followed by his parents, and walked through the doors. Bobby saw Queen first standing in the doorway of the room. When she saw Bobby, she hugged him and sighed deeply. “He asked for you.” Bobby released a sigh of relief , he didn’t know he was holding in. *He’s alive.*

************

All three parents watched at the door as Bobby walked up to Oliver. He had an oxygen mask on, a few leftover cuts and bruises on his face, but from what Bobby could see, he looked fine. HE was satisfied atleast. He touched Oliver’s shoulder and the boy opened his eyes. Bobby could see the small smile forming behind the oxygen mask. “Hi.” Oliver whispered.

“Hi.” He put his hand on Oliver’s head and rubbed it gently. His parents stood near Queen with confused expressions. Bobby sat on the side of the bed and Oliver extended a weak bruised hand to him. His lover took it and held it in his own. “I thought I lost you. I watched you stop reaching for your inhaler.......I .........I don’t want to lose you, Oliver.”

“I love you.” The boy said with a faint, raspy voice. You could barely hear it over the mask. But Bobby did.

“I love you too.” He bent and kissed him on the forehead. Bobby had never expressed this much affection for Oliver in front of anyone. When he was around him, he saw no one else. His lips pulled away and Oliver tilted his head up and removed his mask. Bobby bent lower and kissed him sweetly.

“Bobby?” Pauline gasped, her hand over her mouth. The couple pulled away and looked at the shock on Mr. and Mrs. Ardenay’s faces. “What are you..........Can we talk to you for a minute? Outside?” Bobby followed his parents into the hallway. “What the hell was that?”

“What?”

Skip rolled his eyes. “Don’t play stupid, son. Did you just kiss that boy?”

“Yes, I did.”

“Are you telling us you’re gay?” Bobby nodded. “That’s why you two got beat up tonight?” Bobby nodded again. Skip shook his head in disbelief and started to pace.

Pauline stepped closer to her son and whispered to him. “You’re not gay. Are you?”

“Yes, mom. I didn’t realize it until Oliver came to town. We hooked up and I fell in love. I love Oliver with all my heart.” Bobby could hardly believe he was confessing, but he didn’t care anymore. After what happened that night, he didn’t care what the rest of the world thought. He was in love with Oliver and he wanted everyone to know it.

“I can’t believe what I’m hearing.” Skip said.

“Well believe it. I love him and I don’t care what you think. I’m sick of trying to make you happy with football, dad, or you happy with my schooling, mom. I want what makes me happy.” Bobby pointed to the closed door behind them. “HE makes me happy.”

Pauline reached to him. “Son, don’t you understand how hard it’s going to be for you and Oliver in this town? Hasn’t what happened to you tonight opened your eyes to what will happen constantly if you come out to everyone?”

“We’ll figure out something.”

“Like what?”

“..........I don’t know. But I WON’T give him up.” All the anger Bobby was building up put pain in his torn torso. He put a hand to his chest and walked back to the room. “You don’t have to stay if you don’t want to.”

Inside, Queen had pulled a chair close to the bed and sat there rubbing her dozing son’s curly hair and kissing his forehead. Bobby stood by the door, unsure if he should interrupt the mother/son moment. Queen looked behind her and saw Bobby and she beckoned for him to come sit next to her. Bobby grabbed a chair and pulled it next to the bed and she rubbed his back. “Everything ok?” She whispered so not to disturb Oliver.

Bobby shrugged. “With them, I don’t know. But with him,” he played with Oliver’s fingers. “everything’s fine.” He sighed. “Is he going to be ok?”

“The doctors said he had to get stitching for the rapes and bandaging for a cracked rib, but other than that, with time, he should be fine. Of course, there are all the cuts and bruises on his body to worry about also.” She continued to rub the boy’s head. “The nurse had come by before you all came and gave him some medicine. He should be out for a while.”

“I’m sorry. I didn’t think they were capable of doing such a dirty thing as this.” He ducked his head.

Queen touched his chin and forced him to look at her. “Don’t apologize. You didn’t do this.”

“But I also didn’t stop it either.” Tears formed in his eyes. “I tried to stop it. I tried to get free, but I.........I couldn’t.” He started to sob. “They just kept hitting him and abusing him and they forced me to watch it all and I couldn’t.........I couldn’t..........” Queen hugged him as he cried.

“Shhhhh. There was nothing you could’ve done, Bobby. You couldn’t have stopped them all.” She rubbed his back and waited until he calmed down.

He finally pulled away and wiped his eyes. “I just wish there was something I could do.......or somewhere we could...........” Bobby looked up at her. She looked back at him and nodded her head in understanding.

“You WILL let me know.......”

“Of course. I promise.............Thank you.”

************

Oliver stayed in the hospital for a week. During that time, Priscilla stopped by a few times to check on him. She also reported that Martin, AB, Willis, Phillip, and Officer Rogers had been arrested. They all were sentenced eight years in prison and Phillip was given four for being an accomplice.

Bobby came by the hospital the day Oliver was to check out. He was still limping a lot and would have to sit in a chair when he got tired, but he was healing. His ribs were getting much better. He sat on the side of the bed, when Bobby walked in followed by Queen. Bobby had on jeans, a t-shirt, and a light jacket. In his hands were two gym bags. “Lets go.” He had a big smile on his face.

Oliver got up and slowly walked over to his mother. She snatched him up in a big hug; tears in her eyes. “Be safe. Remember I will always love you, my darling.” She pulled away and wiped her eyes. “Okay?” She smiled.

“Okay, mama. I love you too.” He gave her a kiss on the cheek and reached for Bobby’s hand.

“Goodbye, Queen.” Bobby smiled. They hugged and she whispered in his ear.

“Goodluck wherever you go. And no sex for atleast another month. So keep your paws off him.” She laughed.

Bobby laughed too. “I’ll try.” Together Bobby and Oliver walked to his car. Bobby put his lover’s bags in the backseat with his and they made their way down the road.

“What did your parents say about this?”

“What could they say? I’m eighteen now. I’m going to do what I want.”

“They said ‘no’, right?”

“Yeah.”

“Are you sure about this? I don’t want to be the one who split you and your parents up.”

Bobby grabbed his hand and rubbed the knuckles. “You’re not. I’ve been wanting to get out that damn house for the longest time. You, my love, were just my wings.”

Oliver smiled, then a thought came to him and he jumped. “Oh! My laptop.”

“Relax. I got it. Your mother gave me everything. You know, your mother is probably the only thing I’ll miss about this place. I wish she could’ve came too.”

“So do I. But she’s got a really good job here and unlike us, she can’t just pack up and start a new life. I’ll miss Priscilla too though.”

“Have you talked to her lately?”

“She called two days ago and I told her what we were doing. She cried but said she was happy for us.” They were quiet for a while, then Oliver spoke again. “Say, where are we going anyway?”

Bobby shrugged, eyes still on the road. “Wherever the wind takes us.”

Oliver’s eyes widened and Bobby laughed. “Oh dear.” He whispered.

THE END.....

I\'m not going to lie to you. I had originally planned on having Oliver die, but when it came time to type it, I just couldn\'t do it. I love the little bugger too much. I hope you liked it and to all that have reviewed and will review, I thank you for reading.

Love you all,
