Chapter Eleven
The scenery flew past the window. Alexis had no idea where they were going. She didn’t really care it was probably the shock setting in after what had just happened. Had she really just spoken to her mother like that? Had she really just walked out of the only house she had ever know with a man who had only existed through words before? Theo was not saying anything either, he just drove in silence occasionally glancing in her direction as if checking she hadn’t fallen to pieces on him. Did he regret what he had just done? He was stuck with her now. Maybe this had been a giant mistake. But she couldn’t help feeling a little relieved that she had finally get away from the woman who was supposed to love her. The few items she had packed were loaded in the boot of, what her mum had accurately described as, Theo’s posh car. Alexis had no real knowledge of cars but she could tell by the stares from passers by at traffic lights and tunings that this car was something special. Was Theo really rich or something? His suit looked hand made and expensive. The total sum of all her clothes in her wardrobe probably wouldn’t add up t the amount the suit had cost him. What had she gotten herself into?
Theo checked again that she was alright. She was sat so still like she was letting everything sinks in. He couldn’t believe how accurate her description of her mother had been. He had hoped she had expanded the truth slightly, but was ashamed when he had been proven wrong. How could such a vial woman produced such a sweet and innocent creature as Alexis? Theo wanted to pull the car over and take her in his arms but he could tell that she needed time. There were things they needed to discuss though. Things had moved faster then he had expected. He had wanted to take her to dinner to get to know her properly and she him. Now though he was her protector. He had caused the confrontation with her mother so he was going to look after her, and that suited him just fine.
‘Where are we going?’
‘Too my hotel in the city centre. I shall arrange a room for you close to my own, if that is what you want?’
‘Yes that’s fine. I’m sorry to be an inconvenience. I bet you didn’t think you were going to be lumbered with a homeless girl on your trip here did you?’
‘It may not have been my original plan but I am not sorry to get you away from that house and from that woman.’
‘Thank you.’
Alexis turned back to the window. What was the plan now? He would get her a hotel room but then what? He was only here for two weeks then what she wouldn’t be able to go home, not now. She had no friends to stop with and there was no was she could afford a place of her own. What about college? She hadn’t wanted to leave but she would probably have too now. It wasn’t like she could go in looking the way she did right now.
‘Won’t people act strangely with my face being the way it is?’
‘Does it bother you if they did?’
‘I don’t want to embarrass you!’
‘Do not worry about me angel. Simply worry about yourself. I will take of you now I promise. If at any time you are uncomfortable with anything please let me know and I will do my best to help settle things for you. I realise that this is extremely sudden and things have change faster then either of us expected but I for one am glad that we are going to have this time together. How are you feeling by the way?’
‘Ok, I guess still in a little bit of shock I think. Your right things have happened a lot faster then I even expected but I admit I’m not sorry it happened. I’m just scared about the future. Everything has changed now and I don’t know what to think about it.’
‘Do you trust me?’
‘Yes.’
‘Then believe me when I say all will be right in the end. I have to admit though there are things I have not told you and there are a few surprises in store. I was thinking maybe you would like to get some lunch before we continue on to the hotel. This way I can make some arrangements for you and we can have some time to discuss some of the pressing matters.’
‘That would be lovely. I hate being any trouble.’
‘Your not. Come on lets get something to eat.’
They sat in a dark corner of a little restaurant. Alexis had pulled her hair around her face enough to hide it from the other people eating there. They talked about his home life and his reason for visiting. He explained to her his plans for the next two weeks. The one thing they didn’t talk about was the confrontation with her mother. Theo explained that she was more then welcome to stay at the hotel at his expense for the next two weeks. Alexis knowing she had no where else to go accepted.
‘I promise I shall take things slow with you. We shall have separate rooms, but I was hoping you would join me for dinner at night and spend some time with me. I have the weekends to do as I please and I had always intended to spend this time with you.’
‘I would really like that. I just have a few questions if that is ok?’
‘Of course.’
‘It’s just I’m suppose to be at college on Monday. I wasn’t planning to go back but I think maybe I should. I don’t know I feel wrong leaving when there is only a few weeks left maybe it’s worth while trying to savage something from it. And I still don’t know what is going to happen once you leave. I will probably need a few good grades to get a decent job or something.’
‘I f you wish to continue on with your studies then I am sure I can find a company that can drive you too your college in the morning and bring you back to the hotel afterwards. It’s not a problem.’
‘But it is more expense to you and you have already done so much for me.’
‘Before you go any further I want to make something very clear to you my angel. Since we began talking I have found myself falling for you like I never thought I could. I know this is our first day face to face but I feel like you have always been a part of my life. i will do anything I can to make your life easy from now on. I promised myself I would give you the two weeks to get to know me and judge what to do from there but with everything that has happened in the past few hours I have never been more certain of anything in my life. That is you have to be part of my life Alexis. I don’t mind spend all the money in the world on you it holds no meaning form me. But a smile from you and the fact that I have created that smile means everything to me. I have been in love with you since our first conversation. Those feeling have only been magnified since I saw your face firs in a picture and now sat across a table from me. I know I have no future without you in it. So please put me out of my misery and tell me you feel the same.’
Alexis simply burst into tears.
