The Murderer Who Wasn't a Monster
Chapter 10
"Look, I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot," he says. "I want to make things right with you. Can you please forgive me?"
I sit there in the cafeteria, not understanding what's even going on. "What?" I ask, looking to the man saying these words. "Oh, it's you."
"Darryl, please give me another chance. I encourage you to give people a chance."
It's something I think long and hard about. "Fine," I finally answer. "But I can't make promises."
"So, I want to know. Apart from all this drama between your dad and Diana's dad, did you have anything you used to love doing?"
It's sad that I had to even think about this for a second. "Playing the piano."
"What else? Anything?"
"No."
"Why not?"
I shrug. "The world bores me, I guess."
“I suppose that’s understandable, but I wish you could get out and experience the world, Darryl.”
“It’s too late.”
“It’s never too late, so- I mean, Darryl. I think you could make such a change in your life and others. You just need a push, that’s all it is.”
I look to the floor, staring. “You’re the first man who’s ever told me that.”
