Chapter 10 – When you decide that your life is a price.

Godiva buzzed with a strange fire inside, thinking of Nurreal, and what they had done made him blush. Even as the Incubi walked beside him, as they came outside the tower Nurreal took his hand and entwined their fingers, squeezing it tenderly. Godiva knew Nurreal was confused, he had never in his life expected to see Godiva again, and he had never expected to actually have something stir deep within, something that was hidden in the very core of the creature Nurreal. “Godiva?” Nurreal whispered. “I wish I could travel with you,” he said in a sombre tone.

“So do I” Godiva whispered back. “But Nurreal, I found you once, I shall find you again, if you want me to”

Nurreal stopped and pulled the cat hybrid close “I want that, I want that a lot” he whispered, kissing the other gently “tell me that we will meet again, even if it is a lie”

“We will” Godiva said before deepening the kiss, offering the incubi to taste his very essence.

Nurreal pulled back with a gasp “don’t” he breathed heavily, turning his head he saw a handful of soldiers at the gate “your escorts is here”

“Look after Seth for me” Godiva whispered “I ... care for you... Be safe Nurreal”

“You too, and I will” Nurreal reluctantly let go of the cat boy “I will find you, even should I turn over this entire universe”

Godiva smiled “that is good to know”

Nurreal smiled and turned to leave, “Godiva?” he said, turning quickly, “you are the bravest creature I ever met”

“I am not brave” Godiva said, blushing a little under the compliment, “stubborn perhaps” he smiled, and Nurreal laughed.

“Till next time” Nurreal said and turned once more, walking towards the doors to the tower.

“Sure thing” Godiva said, not even sure how to react, this all seemed complete surreal to him. And then he too turned to leave, he knew better now than to try and defy Nurreal’s father. And so he left, even if he didn’t want to at all, turning around he couldn\'t see Nurreal, he had vanished into the tower again, and Godiva sighed, walking slowly over to the escorte.

“Godiva” a voice said, “I trust it went as you had hoped”

The cat creature looked up and saw the vampire’s bright smile “Vishnu! You are alright!” and without thinking he flung himself around the tall vampire’s neck, Much to Vishnu’s surprise.

“Where is Seth?” Godiva asked, letting go of Vishnu, looking into his pale grey worried eyes.

“Where he is supposed to be, and we should not speak of this anymore” Vishnu said, handing Godiva the reins for the largest black horse Godiva had ever seen. Vishnu said no more, he just mounted his horse in silence and waited for Godiva to do the same, and so they rode out of the cities in complete silence.

Tristan woke feeling arms wrapped around him, and little puffs of air against his neck, not opening his eyes he just snuggled closer by instinct. Opening his eyes slowly he became more coherent, gently prying the arms off him, rising from the bed, turning he looked at who ever was in the bed, and had expected to find Ol, but much to his surprise it was his brother who lay sound asleep at his side. Tristan couldn\'t help but to study Harm in his sleep, he didn’t look as troubled as he did when awake. He looked as the brother he had known in his sleep, but this version of Harm was darker and crueller, Tristan thought to himself. How cruel to hold him when he knew the love they had once shared, love harm completely denied and was repulsed by, or so he had said. The silver haired angel walked out of the room into the dining room that Bernhard’s entire harem shared, finding Ol in the process of making coffee, he scratched his hair lazily and slumped down in a chair “did you get any sleep at all?”

Ol turned “ah Tris! Yes I did” he smiled and turned to his coffee again, “Is Harm still sleeping?”

“Yea” Tristan said, “Either that or he is playing dead”

“Funny, funny” Ol sang, turning around carrying two cups, handing one to Tristan he smiled “I talked to Harm as he got back last night, but maybe he would prefer to tell you himself”

“About what?” Tristan asked, sipping the hot coffee

“Vishnu” Ol said, “I would have told Seth first, but I haven’t seen him return from Bernhard’s yet” the corner of the elfs mouth twitched. “That is bad”

“Really? Have you been to his room?” Tristan asked, getting increasingly worried.

“Yes, it is empty” Ol whispered. “I don’t know where he can be, either he is at Bernhard’s still, at the chambers of Suffering to be patched up, or else he.. Don’t need patching up no more”

“Don’t even think that!” Tristan exclaimed, “I am sure there is a logical explanation”

“Harm found Vishnu” Ol said softly “he is alive and well” the elf looked down into his coffee cup, before taking a sip.

“Why do I get the distinct feeling that there is something you’re not telling me?” Tristan said.

“You see Vishnu left this morning,” Ol whispered

“That is all very intriguing Ol, but why did I need to know that?” Tristan laughed.

“Because he escorted your son to the borders of heaven” Harm said behind them.

“What?!” Tristan gasped, spurting coffee out on the table and on himself, turning in his seat, staring at his brother “and you didn’t wake me?”

“And what would you have done?” Harm sneered, “stopped them?”

“You are such a goddamn asshole Harm, do you even realise that?” Tristan yelled, standing to his feet. “Did dealing with death rob you of all empathy?”

Harm just stared at his brother and crossed his arms across his chest. “Do you really think so little of me brother?” he sneered.

“You let them take my son to that place! Harm what were you thinking?” Tristan raved, spilling coffee all over.

“There wasn’t anything anyone could have done for fucks sake! Don’t you think I would have done it, if there were!” Harm suddenly cried, surprising everyone with his sudden loss of demeanour. “Dammit!”

Tristan looked at his aggravated brother, and nodded slowly “you’re right, I am sorry” he said softly. The two brothers looked at eachother and the air was so tense you could hear the whispering in the next-door rooms, when suddenly a figure stood in the door.

“Hey” a small voice croaked.

Tristan spun around and lit up in a smile “Seth! You are alright!”

Seth smiled a little crooked smile “yea I’m fine”

“Seth you...you..!” Ol gasped and buried Seth in a hug “I was so worried” he held Seth out from his body and looked the angel over “are you sure you are not hurt?”

“I’m sure,” Seth laughed softly. “but I am dying for some coffee” he smiled disarming and walked away from Ol and sat down on a chair next to where Harm had sat down.

Ol brought Seth a cup of coffee and now both the elf and Tristan looked at Harm, waiting for him to say something. Harm gently squeezed Seth’s shoulder “Seth” he said “I found Vishnu, he is alright”

Seth sighed and smiled “thank you” he said.

“He is riding towards heavens borders as we speak, as part of an escorte for Godiva” Tristan said “if you want to we can stay here and wait for his return with you”

Seth shook his head “there is no need” the angel sighed, and fixed his amber eyes on Tristan “this is Bernhard’s will, and nothing can change that, the only hope I have is that Lucifer should choose to lay dormant no longer”

“Are you even sure he lay dormant? What if he deserted us all?” Ol whispered.

“OL!” Seth exclaimed, “don’t even think that!”

“So” Tristan said looking Seth over with a worried frown “what happened?”

“He treated me like some rare, fragile insect or something” Seth said smiling a little at his own words, and then he blushed “he just wanted me to sit at his feet, watching the others... uhm... you know”

“So he didn’t touch you?” Ol said sounding just as surprised as he looked.

“Nope” Seth said. “Honestly I don’t know why” he took a sip of his coffee and then grinned “He did speak of you Ol”

“He did?” Ol whispered, squirming in his seat.

“Yea, he praised your abilities, in his own way” Seth said “he said you were a thousand more times as pleasing to look upon than the poor souls he had performing”

Ol beamed and blushed at the same time “really?”

“Really” Seth said with a smirk, he didn’t say anything about it but he saw the loving gleam in the elfs eyes, Seth couldn\'t claim to understand the arrangement Bernhard and Ol had, but he was sure that the elfs commitment was bigger than he let anyone think, and even should Lucifer return to claim his throne, he was sure that Ol would follow Bernhard to Teeheste, by his own free will. And something told him that Bernhard wouldn\'t mind that one bit.

Vishnu were looking at the fire, unable to sleep he had taken the first shift. He missed Seth, and he knew that about this hour they had normally sat in the sofa and shared some wine before turning to bed. Somehow he was glad that he was sent out here, at least he knew that Godiva would arrive in heaven, and he wouldn\'t have to sit alone in his room, he was sure they would seem almost claustrophobic and most of all empty of all life.

“You miss him a lot, don’t you?” a voice said

“Yea I suppose so” Vishnu said turning his head and smiling a little timid smile to Godiva who sat down next to him. “Do you need anything?”

“No, I just cant sleep.. I... I... don’t understand anything anymore.” Godiva sighed, resting his head in his hands, starring into the flames.

“I don’t blame you” Vishnu said softly, squeezing Godiva’s shoulder “Bernhard is sending you to heaven, because he is afraid of you. He can’t hurt you but he can exile you, and so he choose to send you to the only other family he know of than your father and Horatio”

“Fam.. family? You mean...” Godiva raised his head and looked at Vishnu

“Yes, you have an older brother, Adrian. He resides in heaven, west of Eden if I am not mistaken greatly. Seth talked about him a lot” Vishnu frowned, “you might want to know that your brother is not the most popular angel around. He is..” Vishnu took a deep breath “he is the celestial executioner, henchman of God, doing the other angels dirty work, call it what you want, but he is a bitter, bitter soul Godiva”

Godiva looked really confused “I didn’t know I had a brother, I have heard his name before, but.. I have never really connected the dots”

“This is really not my story to tell Godiva, and I only know what Seth told me” Vishnu said “but I know that his mother was very angry that your father did not love her like he was supposed to, and after his fall. She remarried, a great angel whom was a friend of your grandfather. He provided well for her and her son, your brother, but Adrian never forgot, and never forgave” Vishnu smiled “your family sure is an interesting one, and I am sure you find the answers you need in heaven, or maybe Tristan one day agrees to fill you in”

“He would never do that” Godiva sighed “he keeps everything from me”

“He is protecting you in his own way” Vishnu said, rubbing comforting circles on the young cat boys back “he never meant for you to even see this place, he is afraid, little Godiva. To fall from grace is no small deal, you are robbed all, and to be denied the love of God drives most fallen angels insane. Your father and Seth prevailed, maybe because they loved someone else just as much as God, and this was their crime and their salvation.”

“I thought you stumbled upon Seth out here” Godiva said

“I did, and his mental state was poor. But I saw potential in him, by the guardian of the gates I did” Vishnu chuckled “say little Godiva, do you believe in love at first sight?” Godiva nodded and Vishnu continued. “There was only one way for me to save him, and that was to take him with me, and.. brand him mine”

“So that is why all that happened, Seth is not your spouse, he is your.. Concubine?” Godiva frowned

“That he is” Vishnu whispered “and in my heart so much more” the vampire shook his head “If I succeed this mission perfectly, then I can maybe be allowed to see him”

“I hope so,” Godiva whispered.

Vishnu lit a cigarette and sighed “listen Godiva, when you arrive in heaven, they will not believe you. They want to forget that your family ever excited, Cherub Adrian is tolerated because of his mother’s good family, and of course because of the influence of his stepfather. And because he has abilities they need. But you Godiva, you are a different matter, you are nothing more than a fallen angels bastard breed” the vampire sighed “be on your guard, and hope that you get on the right side of your brother. He knows of your existence, but that don’t mean he will welcome you, and you will hear stories that will change your perspective of things, but just remember yourself, and what you know”

“Like what?” Godiva said completely puzzled.

“You like Seth right? And you love your father and your uncle Horatio?” Vishnu whispered.

“Of course” Godiva said

“Stay true to that, no matter what” Vishnu said, turning Godiva’s head so he looked him right into his eyes “Seth sacrificed his love for me, for you to be safe, if it was out of love for you, or your father I don’t know. But remember what he did for you, and don’t let those angels soil his name”

“I wont, I promise” Godiva said

Vishnu just smiled “good, I have faith in you, little Godiva. You managed to capture the heart of the heartless prince of hell, so why should you not have the heavens love you? You will be alright Godiva, I am sure you will, and maybe some day we will meet again”

Godiva just smiled, feeling very small under Vishnu’s praise.
