C's Monthly
All bets were off now. Since the attack in Tower didn’t really happen, Peter’s deal with the Riders was broken. Good thing he got away from the camp when the news of Nikolaus’s trick arrived. The old codger was more cunning than he had given him credit for. Maybe spending a year more in the Tower wouldn’t have been such a bad idea. Finding work without any recommendations or proof of education wasn’t easy. He turned the page and was disappointed to see there was no other suitable job adverts besides the one looking for a reporter trainee. It seemed like the place was desperate to get workers since they advertised the job in other paper. He was rather desperate to get a job so it was a match made in heaven.
Some lady opened the door in a sensual night gown. Great, he had to go through the mistress first. Peter flashed his most engaging smile and asked if mister Darkblade was available.
Her new trainee seemed a little young but there hadn’t been other literate applicants. She was impressed when he hadn’t looked disappointed to find out his boss was going to be a woman. He was now reading older issues of “C’s Monthly”, and appeared every bit the *hotness* erm, professional in his pristine white shirt and old-fashioned reading glasses. Her readers were going to love him. She made a note to send him to make a door-to-door poll as soon as possible.
It wasn’t so bad actually. Cassie was quite a woman and he could write under a penname. She had already said he wouldn’t get to interview major public figures in the beginning so there was no fear of meeting Riders through work. Granted, her magazine was shamelessly feminine but it was also rather clever and he believed he might enjoy the work. She hadn’t asked about his past, just about his skills and interests.
