Chapter 10

Sean walked over the poker table and reached down. Throwing a briefcase upon the table, Sean opened it methodically and pulled out several sheets of papers.

“Here,” Sean said as he held out the papers for Brad to grab.

Brad took the sheets of papers. His brows rose in question as he looked down at them.

“The first sheet is Orlando’s daily schedule. The second lists all the rules that you must follow. And this envelope is your security pass to the mansion. You are never to let anyone see this or let anyone barrow it. Do you understand?” Sean’s eyes had turned as dull and lifeless as a shark about to make a kill.
Brad looked up. “Yes, I understand. Am I allowed to carry a weapon?”

“Good. We’ll provide a weapon when you arrive on Saturday,” Sean explained as he slammed his briefcase shut.

“Do you have a problem with me, Sean?”

Sean looked up at Brad’s question; his jaw was set and his eyes blazing.

“No, as long as you do your job.” Sean’s voice was harsh and commanding.

“I take my job seriously, Sean. I will protect Orlando with my life,” Brad said in earnest. He didn’t want to make this man his enemy. He needed to move up in the organization and making Sean his enemy was not the way to go about it.

“You better, because if anything happens to Orlando, I will kill you myself,” Sean snarled as he exited the room, slamming the door behind him as he went.

‘So much for us becoming best of friends,’ Brad thought as he shoved the papers into his coat pocket. ‘I guess everything went well today,’ Brad thought. He’d gotten into Vin’s organization. Not quite what he was looking for but it still paid well. Maybe if he proved himself and worked hard, he could move up.

Brad walked out of the VIP room and out of the casino, his mind drifting to the man he was hired to protect. How could a grown man live with such restrictions? He knew that Mr. Diesel was a dangerous man but could the man intimidate a person he was supposed to love so much into living this kind of life? It was unimaginable.

As Brad got to his car, he heard his cell phone ring. He unlocked his car door and moved inside before flipping the phone open.

“Did you get hired?” a deep, rough demanded.

“Yeah,” Brad answered, shifting the phone onto his shoulder as he turned the key.

The motor roared to life; its sound momentarily blocking out the voice on the other end of the line.

“Good. Don’t fuck this up. I’ve put a lot on the line for you.”

“I know and I won’t,” Brad said, trying to sound reassuring.

“You owe me one, don’t forget that when I come collecting.”

“Fuck…” Before Brad could finish his sentence, the line went dead.

‘Fucking prick,’ Brad thought as he laid the phone on the passenger seat.
Brad spotted a flower shop. Shifting his car into lower gear, he pulled in front of the small store.

He needed to make this night special for he knew Angelina was going to hate that he took the job.

Walking into the shop, he was bombarded by an assortment of flowers. Brad knew Angelina liked lilies but he wanted to get her red roses, the sign of the love he felt for her. As he made his way to the counter, he noticed a young woman arranging a bouquet. He stood there, patiently waiting for her to finish.

The bell dinged and Jennifer noticed a very tall good-looking man enter her shop. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched as he looked at the different flowers lining the shelves. She took in his should length blond hair that melted into a chiseled jaw which in turn ran into a long strong neck and a muscular chest.

As Brad walked up to the counter, Jennifer blushed at the thoughts that were running through her mind. Guys like him were either married and getting flowers for his wife or married and getting flowers for his mistress.

She shifted the flowers that sat in front of her for several more moments, trying to regain her composure.

“May I help you,” Jennifer finally said as she moved to stand in front of the handsome stranger.

“Yes, I want to get a dozen of red roses,” Brad said, his eyes roaming over the beautiful girl.

“D...do you want them loose or in a banquet?”

“Loose is fine.” Brad smiled as he watched her blush.

“Would you like to have them delivered?”

“No, I’m going to surprise my wife with them,” Brad explained as he watched the girl walk over to the cooler and take out the roses.

He looked around and saw a gift rack full of stuffed animals. Walking over, he picked up a little brown and white teddy that he knew Shiloh would like. Walking back to the counter he laid the bear upon the counter.

‘Why couldn’t I be wrong for once in my life,’ Jen thought as she laid the roses in paper wrapping. “That will be seventy two dollars.”

Brad pulled out his wallet and handed the girl a hundred dollar bill. “Keep the change.” Brad smiled as he picked up the roses and bear.

“She’s a lucky lady,” Jen said as she watched him walk out of the shop.
Picking up the money, she put it in the register and got back to her flowers.

Stepping out into the sidewalk, Brad headed for his car. He was eager to get home and be with the two girls in his life. He knew once he started working for Mr. Diesel his free time would be gone so he wanted to make the most of what time he had left.

As he pulled into the driveway, the back door opened and Shiloh came running out.

“Daddy, you’re home!” she screamed before throwing herself into his arms.

Brad chuckled as he picked his little girl up and swung her around.
Angelina smiled as she watched the scene in front of her. Brad was such a good father and a loving husband. Turning around, she set the plates on the table.

“What do you have there, daddy?” Shiloh asked, peeking into the package that was
lying on the front seat.

“You get out of there, bugger,” Brad said good-naturedly, grabbing his daughter and tickling her.

She went running into the house, calling for her mom.

Brad grinned. Reaching down, he grabbed the wrapped roses and bear. Heading for the back door, he could hear Shiloh whispering in excitement.

Angelina looked up as she heard the back door open. She was just finishing setting the table, wanting to make everything special. She didn’t want to fight with Brad and he did agree to work for her father if it got too dangerous.

Brad smiled as he spotted Angelina and walked over to her. Leaning down, he gave her a soft kiss on the lips then pulled the roses from behind his back.

Angelina smiled at the beautiful roses and kissed Brad deeply. As their lips separated, Angelina looked into Brad’s eyes. “You must have gotten the job.”

“Yeah and guess what, honey?” Brad said, waiting in anticipation for Angelina to ask.

”What?” Angelina was scared of what her husband would say.

“They hired me as a bodyguard,” Brad said as if all of Angelina worries should fade.

“Bodyguard? You mean you’ll be protecting Mr. Diesel?” Angelina said, throwing her hand over her heart. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing: her husband was going to be right in the middle of danger.

“No, sweetheart, I’ll be protecting.” Brad laughed. “I’ll be protecting Mr. Diesel’s boyfriend.”

“His boyfriend?” Angelina repeated, dumbfounded.

“Yeah. Can you believe that Mr. Diesel is gay?” Brad asked as he grabbed Angelina around the waist and dragged her up against him.

“I don’t understand, Brad.”

“Hon, I’ll be protecting his boyfriend in Mr. Diesel’s mansion which is highly protected. So you see, sweetheart, I won’t be in too much danger.” Brad finished his little speech with a wide smile on his lips.

Angelina still wasn’t convinced but she would give Brad a chance at his new job.

Forcing a smile on her face, she wrapped her arms around his neck and brought him down for a reaffirming kiss.

“I’m so glad, my love; it’ll be a lot easier on me,” Angelina whispered against his lips.

“Are you two finished?” Shiloh asked pulling on her father’s sleeve.

“Yeah,” Brad said, handing Shiloh the little bear.

She grabbed the bear and held it to her chest. “I love it, daddy, thank you.”

“I thought we were going out tonight?” Brad said as he looked at the set table.

“Yes, but I thought a night alone would be much better,” Angelina said as she gave him the eye.

“What about Shiloh?”

“My mom is coming to get her after dinner,” Angelina whispered as she ran her finger up Brad’s chest.

Brad grinned and took off his coat. “Anything you want, sweetheart, anything you want.”
