Chap 10:
Close Call

I see Tai trying to figure it out. “What’s going on?” At her question Walter looks at me as if asking the same. I don’t say anything and neither does Shya. “Alright come on, everyone come in.” Tai says and the four of us walk into her room. Walter looks as confused as his sister as he stands with me by Tai’s bed as Shya and Tai sit on the bed.

Shya takes a deep breath then hands Tai’vera the tabloid. “Apparently someone at the park recognized you and took a picture of us. It was the day before Valentines so I guess they assumed.” Walter’s eyes widen as he catches on to what Shya means then he gasps and holds me to him.

“That could have been us.” He says and I know the thought had crossed my mind as well seeing as we were at the park as well. I hold him close to me and kiss his forehead, part of me wishing we didn’t have to keep our relationship a secret. I notice Tai and Shya talking softly then Tai kisses Shya. I continue to just hold Walter pressing light kisses on various places of his face. But then I feel the need to know.

“So what are you going to say about the story?” I ask Tai and notice that I’m not the only one interested in that answer. Walter still clings to me slightly crying as he too waits for the answer. Tai lightly kisses Shya’s hand.

“I’ll tell them the truth, that I’m happy with my girlfriend.” She answers and right as she stops I hear a door slam shut. Then I hear feet running up the stairs and at that Walter pulls away from me seeing almost afraid. Walter’s mother slams the door open breaking the lock and the glare she sends her daughter is pure disgust.

“Tai’vera Richards! What the hell is this?” Her voice is raised more then I’ve ever heard it and her face is red. I guess she saw the tabloid as well because then she glares at Shya. “You get out of my house this instant.” She says and Shya even stands up like she means to listen to her.
Yet Tai continues to hold Shya’s hand and she stands up as well. “No Mom. You want to know about the cover of that magazine right? Well then take a good look, it’s right Mom this is my girlfriend.” Tai’s voice is firm and I know I kind of what I expected this from her. Her mother looks madder at that response yet she stomps off all the same without another word.

“Why don’t Walter and I leave you two alone so you can talk?” I say and Walter smiles a little uneasily before we walk to his room. We leave Tai’s door open but I think her mother broke it too much to close.

Walter walks to his room with me clinging to me slightly regardless of the fact that his mother is home and pissed. I can only imagine what would happen if she found out that both of her children are gay. Yet we make it into his room and lock the door without being noticed. Once in his room we sit on his bed and he just curls into me silently.

After a few minutes he speaks up. “Nny, I love you.” I smile slightly at his words.

Then something he said earlier bothers me a little more. “Would it really be so bad if people know about us? “I don’t know John it’s just with my modeling it could ruin my career. At the same time though I don’t really like keeping us a secret and having to hide how we feel. I promise I’ll think about it ok?” He kisses my lips quickly not waiting for an answer. I place my hand on the back of his head and kiss him deeply.

“Ok.” I answer him. I wonder what to say now but Walter just curls into me even more and lightly kisses my neck. Then I hear a car leaving so I guess his mom must have left. “Hey if you insist on curling up into me can we at least lose some of these uncomfortable clothes?” I ask him and he smiles. Without replying he undoes my pants and strips me of them and my shoes.

“Happy?” He asks and I just grin. I strip off his shoes and pants as well. My hand stays at the hem of his boxers as I kiss him softly. “Right now, in your room when your mom could come home at any time and Tai and Shya are next door?” He grins widely and nods to me. That’s when I remember that Tai and Shya aren’t back yet. So I go out and wait by my car for them to return. About ten minutes or so later Tai pulls into the driveway. “What are you doing out here?” Tai asks as she gets out of the car yet Shya doesn’t get out.

“Well Walter fell asleep and Shya is living with me now so I figured I would take her back with me.” I tell her softly.

“She fell asleep in the car. But I suppose it would be better if you take her home seeing how my mother reacted.” She tells me then she opens the passenger side door of her car and I pick up Shya laughing a little at how she is sprawled out. I put her my car and then look at Tai again.

“Alright well goodnight Tai.” I tell her as I climb into my car.

“Night.” She replies back and I drive back to my apartment.
