chapter 10
Meanwhile back with Jamie and Chris
Jamie manages to stagger back to his feet with Chris still in his arms struggling under the blanket.
“Chris, CHRIS,” he jerks the body in his arms, “I can’t run with you thrashing ab…” he screams out as a bolt comes piercing though his left shoulder, the head of it springs open to form a time of grappling hook, as he is jerked backwards off his feet.
Chris stills at the scream before ripping his way free of the blanket. His tail wraps around Jamie as he grabs the hook trying to pull it out of Jamie as they are slowly dragged backwards. His snake hair wildly thrashing about looking something to attack.
His head jerks up and he looks in the direction they are being pulled when he hears a voice. “Captain, we’ve caught two, the snake and the one holding him. Only it’s not a snake, it’s a…” a scream cuts him off as he turns to stone.
“Daniels? Daniels, what happened? Daniels, can you hear me?” can be heard coming from the headset.
The hook finally stops dragging them in at the feet of two other statues, with Jamie unconscious. After a few minutes of fighting with the hook in Jamie’s shoulder Chris settles down around him, waiting for him to awaken. His hair and eyes dart around seeking the next attack. Nearly thirty minutes have passed when he hears a noise from the clearings edge, just as Jamie stirs awake.
Jamie groans as he reaches over and grabs the hook. He looks around as he sits up and takes a look at the four statues surrounding them. He looks to Chris noticing his agitated state, he speaks calmly, “Chris, I need you to help me remove this hook and then I need to feed.”
“I wouldn’t worry about the hook just yet. We’ll take care of it for you, just as soon as we take care of your friend,” a voice says from the forest edge.
Jamie turns to look in that direction, as Chris tightens around him, and looks in that direction as well.
A wave of darts comes at them from behind, around a dozen manage to hit Chris while a few manage to embed themselves in to Jamie. They spin around to face the direction they came from as another wave comes at them from the direction of the voice.
A wave of dizziness goes though Jamie, shaking it off he grabs onto Chris, just as a bolt of electricity passes though Jamie and continues on into Chris, causing them both to scream out and convulse before passing out.
