Layla's introduction
Hi all im back. Sorry for the delay.
Chapter 10
Mevran woke the next morning, to find a young human girl sleeping at the edge of their camp. Slowly he walked over to her, cursing himself for falling asleep while on guard duty. He was glad to see she wasn't too old, in fact, he was surprised she was alone in the woods at her age. He decided it would be safe to wake her, since if she cried for help he could easily.
"Hey, brat, wake up," the elf nudged her with is foot. He watched as she slowly woke up asking for her mother and her dad, before beginning to cry. The elf sweat dropped, and tried to get her to calm down.
Eventually when the girl finally calmed down, Mevran decided to try a simple question first, "What is your name, young human?"
"I'm called Layla, Sir, and I'm sorry for intruding on your camp. Please, let me stay with you?"
The former rebel blinked in surprise. No human had ever requested to stay with an elf, except for Lanton's mother, that is.
He asked her carefully, "Why would you wish to stay with us wouldn't you prefer to have your mother and father take care of you?" Instantly, he knew he had struck a bad subject, as the girl looked like she would burst into tears at any second.
M-my mother and f-father are d-dead, Sir. I'm all that's left of my entire village..." Layla couldn't continue due to the sobs that now racked her body.
Mevran understood everything now. She was alone, because another group of humans had killed her family. He knew this to be a fact due to her being bold enough to enter an elf's camp. That took desperation, for many elf slavers were in the woods this close to the border, and every human child was taught to avoid them at all cost.
"Can you remember how many are chasing you, Layla? It's very important you remember."
"There are four, Sir. They've been hunting me for three days now..." she broke off looking to the ground realizing she has endangered these people as well.
Lanton chose that moment to reveal he is awake, "Three days, then you must be hungry. I'll go find us some food, since we haven't eaten much since the attack. I'll be back in a half hour." With that and a stern warning from Mevran to be careful, he walked into the woods alone.

I know this is a cliffy, and here I promised myself I'd never do that. Sorry, about the long wait I had writers block.
