Chapter 9- Use and Abuse

For some reason, I got nothing more to say right now... so just read and review please.

Chapter 9

"You… you… let me go!"

Jessica screamed out to the person that had captured her.

"Do you honestly believe I'll just let you go? I didn't capture you and bind your magic for nothing you know."

The man walked over to her and smiled. Jessica had been chained to a wall by what appeared to be black chains that wrapped around her arms. Her ankles were also chained together making it hard to just stand.

"I won't just let you use me like this!"

"My dear woman, I don't think you have much of a choi-."

He stopped suddenly and stared at her with venom. She had just spat on his face, and he wiped it away with the back of his hand.

"You know, if I didn't need you to be alive, I'd end your pathetic existence right now. But as it is…" He smacked her across the face hard, leaving a stinging red imprint of his hand on her face. Jessica's eyes were stinging as she refused to let this person get the better of her. Satisfied with his damage, he turned and walked away from her.

"He will show to save you. He cares for his angel enough to come. The question is does he care enough to throw his will away?"

Jessica did not want to listen as she stared at the doorway.

John, don't do anything foolish…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John was approaching the tower, walking with a look of determination. Whoever had taken Jessica would seriously pay the price. But he wondered… what was really driving him? Anger? Yes he was angry, seriously angry. But why? Was it for something more then just taking someone who had become a friend, or possibly more?
Before he could figure these things out, he saw them, two demons who were guarding the entrance to the tower. He walked up to them, fully expecting a fight, but they merely moved aside to grant him entry. He didn't trust the fact they were letting him enter, but he was silently thankful. It meant more energy to save on the one who was really responsible.
Once inside, John saw several doors leading out in various directions. In the middle of the circular room was a winding circular staircase. It lead up and up, out of sight. John decided his best bet would be to start climbing.
Up and up he went, into the approaching darkness, as the floor vanished from sight beneath him. He continued his climb, until he found a single door at the end. Bracing himself, he pushed it open and looked inside.
At first he thought he was in the wrong room. It seemed more like a bedroom, with a bed in one corner, and a desk next to it. A large window was opposite him, and in the center of the room, was a rather large chair with strange symbols apparently carved into it.
"John!"
John looked to the side to see who called him. He was surprised to see Jessica, and knew he made the right decision to come up here.
"Jessica! Hang on, I'll get you out of here!"
"John, wait, it's a trap!"
John froze as the person from before emerged from the shadows of a corner. "Welcome John. So glad you could make it."
"You… who are you?"
"Ah, where are my manners? My name is Beras. The demon, at your service."
Beras bowed, with a mocking smile on his face. John looked to him. He didn't seem much like a demon.
"You don't seem like a demon to me."
"So I tend to hide my true appearance. It's not like you're worth seeing it though."
John scowled and readied himself. Beras seemed to look amused.
"Now, now, there is no need for hostilities. I'm sure we can reason something out. You see, I have something you want… And I want something in return for its safety."
John didn't like the fact that he was referring to Jessica like an item, but he listened.
"If you want your little angel friend to stay alive and well, then you had better listen. I want you to serve me."
"Serve you!? Like hell I will!"
"Oh really? Then you don't care what happens to her?"
John didn't immediately answer to this which gave Beras more time to explain.
"I bet you'd like to know more about your dad too, huh?"
John's eyes widened at his information.
"What… what about my father!?"
"You see, I've noticed him for a long time actually. Ever since a certain situation, I've taken a keen interest in him. And I must say I've loved the way he had become into a fine man."
John didn't like the way he was talking about his dad. It made it sound like he had been nothing more then a pet, something to be used by Beras.
"Of course… He married, and had you. But when he lost his wife, I came in. I offered comfort, security… But no, he said you had mattered most in his life. It was always you. So I used threats, and he easily bended to my will."
"Enough…" John's hand was shaking.
"He was weak… but in the end, he tried too little too late. I don't like disobedience. I disposed of him. Now I offer it to you. If you submit to me, I’ll let your angel friend go. Just walk over and kneel at my feet."
John looked down, his whole body shaking. "You… what you did to my father… I will not forgive you for it. And what you threaten with Jessica… you're just a damn coward!"
Beras smiled to him. "You seem intent on resisting me… shame. Such a person like you would be a waste to kill. However… you are a Destined. And if you won't serve me, you're better off dead."
John readied. He didn't know what Beras meant when he called him a 'Destined', but he wouldn't give in to this demon.
I'll kill him… for you dad.
