A Fate Controlled by Devils
Originally this was going to be an even LONGER chapter, but I decided to break it up a bit. Days are pretty much going slowly, I\'ve stopped jumping them so much for a few more chapters I think. I\'m having fun with this third year, I must be honest, I guess it is because it is the final year for them. I\'m having fun writing Fuji\'s story, though many hate her, mostly because I have the most I can do with her story. While Yuki and Shai still have plot to do, Fuji is my most fun to... damage I guess? I guess I did too much damage!!
There is a part at the end that describes something a bit more about this chapter, but I can\'t mention it now it will give something away.
Chapter 10 – A Fate Controlled by Devils
Fuji shifted on the train in an irritated manner. So much for her being important in her friends’ lives. Neither Shai nor Yuki had bothered to call and tell her the condition of Kaori, and despite Fuji’s best efforts to reach them both neither had returned her calls. This week had not gone the way she had planned for it to go and now she was called home early, the week right before tests, because her mother had some important thing she wanted Fuji to attend for the weekend. This meant that Fuji had to study all she could between events, and still return to school on time on Monday so that she could be ready for the studying she could barely do the last few days.
Fuji slid down the turtle-neck away from her delicate neck and felt the bruise that had formed, and was not disappearing. She could not go home and wear a turtleneck to all of these events, not in the middle of the summer’s hottest days. She was already sweltering and she had not even been on the train that long.
“You belong to me,” Amatsu had said, placing his lips to the delicate skin of Fuji’s neck. From there he had bit into her, hard, and suckled that skin, her eyes watering from the pain, and still she never cried out. Instead she clung to the back of his shirt and allowed him to leave his marking on her. She was not supposed to go home for days, it would be safe, it would be gone by then, and after he finished arousing this heat in her, she could tell him to go away.
After he kissed her he leaned forward once more and took her lips, kissing her deeply, pressing himself against her, and perhaps this had been what she had wanted from him all along, for him to just be more forceful and not treat her like some broken doll.
“What are you two doing?”
That had been the end of their little fun, and Fuji was grateful to the teacher who pulled them apart and sent them out of the library. Fuji had been careful to move fast and to scurry out of the building before Amatsu could even gather his books to chase after her, which he did, Fuji could hear his footsteps a corridor behind her the entire time.
“How am I going to explain this to Devilin?” Fuji asked, putting her face into her hands. “Why aren’t my friends answering the phone? What am I going to do?”
~*~
“Fuji, it is good to see you again,” Noriko Chenbaro-Tennison said smoothly. She reached forward as her daughter stepped out of the cab and embraced her daughter, who was immensely hot and feeling quite sticky thanks to the summer heat.
“Welcome home, Fuji,” Teiyoku said kindly, though he did not step up to his step-daughter and embrace her. He knew how Fuji truly felt about him, and though he tried to be kind to her, the girl and those cold eyes seemed to be unforgiving.
“Fuji!” Devilin came charging down the stairs and practically tore Fuji out of Noriko’s arms, pulling her into a hot embrace and holding her tightly. “It is so good to see you!”
“Don’t act like this in front of Teiyoku and my mother,” hissed Fuji.
“Oh, but I can now,” Devilin whispered devilishly. “You see, that is part of the reason your mother brought you home.”
“What’s going on?” Fuji asked when Devilin had finished whirling her around in circles and placed her firmly back on the ground. Teiyoku was at the cab taking care of the small amount of luggage the prodigal daughter had brought home with her. Devilin was eyeing Fuji suspiciously, his eyes on the neck of her shirt, but he said not one word, only waited for Noriko to announce the words.
“Well, let’s not discuss this outside,” Noriko said, her usual cool head unable to keep with the smile that was threatening to crack open her entire face. Of course, even a smirk on that woman would prove to be lethal, for it always meant she was devising a plan.
The four of them walked into the house, silent, with Devilin gripping Fuji’s hand the whole time. Her stomach twisted and turned and she felt this large urge to pull her hand out of his grasp, though she had to still admit to enjoying his touch. Her body shivered in the heat, a cold breeze taking hold of only her. She walked through the house, into the family room, where Noriko and Teiyoku sat patiently on the couch, gesturing for the young couple to sit across from them on the spacious loveseat. Devilin sat far too close which only rattled Fuji’s delicate nerves that much more.
“Fuji, Teiyoku and I have been thinking about it,” that was never good when a parent started their statement with, ‘I’ve been thinking’ because it always meant trouble for the studious daughter, “and we have decided that you and Devilin will be married.”
“What?” Fuji practically screamed, standing up from her seat and looking down at her family. “How can you make that decision without consulting me, and obviously having talked about it with Devilin first!”
“We wanted to see if he was agreeable,” Noriko said, heading Teiyoku off as he opened his mouth to speak. “If he could not stand you, you would not be married.”
“What if I can’t stand him?” Fuji cried. “How can you make that choice for me? Arranged marriages don’t happen to people my age! They happen to women nearing their thirties who haven’t yet found the right man.”
“You can’t stand Devilin?” Noriko asked, her eyes all knowing as she looked upon her daughter.
Fuji was trapped. To say yes would be to break Devilin’s heart, and she did not mean that, but to say no meant she was nearly consenting. Her mother could not force her to agree to something like this, it was… immoral, but was her mother completely against immoral things?
“I can stand Devilin,” Fuji said calmly.
“Then sit down and talk to us like the adult we know you are,” Noriko demanded of her daughter. Fuji slowly sank back onto the loveseat beside Devilin, who was taking no offense to Fuji’s sudden outburst. “You broke up with that Amatsu, which is good because he was definitely all wrong for you, though I heard he was going to Tokyo University as well, but seeing how the break up went, you have no one. The logical choice for you is Devilin, who is Teiyoku’s nephew and will do right by the company. Together you two will take care of the company in our stead. You will marry, go to school, and live here until you have both gained careers within the company. Then you will move out, live in the mansion close by here, and together you will be the heirs to the company.”
“You already have this all planned…” Fuji said desolately.
Noriko gave a curt nod. “I want to make sure you have an heir, and I do not trust you to find a proper husband on your own,” she said with venom that stung Fuji from across the room. “This weekend we will be holding an engagement party for the two of you at the hotel and you will be celebrated as the heirs to our fortune. We will also be making the announcement that Teiyoku and I will be having a child. You and Devilin will be married shortly after the child’s birthday.”
“You’re pregnant?” Fuji nearly screamed. She wanted to retch. This man who fathered Shai’s baby had… impregnated her mother!
“Yes,” Noriko said with pride.
Fuji was going to be spiteful, it was on the tip of her tongue to do so, and ask why she did not just have Noriko give the fortune to that child. She even opened her mouth to say it, but her own greed held her back. She had been raised to be this heir, and despite her misgivings in high school, this was what she always knew she would do. She did not want to throw it all away on some whim.
“I… may I go to my room and rest?” Fuji asked, her hand going to her forehead. “This is so much information at once, and I would like to be fresh for the party tomorrow.”
“Yes, of course,” Noriko said, excusing her daughter from any further plans while the other three continued to talk downstairs.
Locked away in her room, and she did make sure her room was locked, she removed the turtleneck and looked at the fresh hickey left on her by a former lover. If she married Devilin, then what? Would all of Amatsu’s plans of business go to waste? What was she thinking? It was his choice to go into business. She did not ask him to follow her.
Fuji gingerly touched the bruise and wished that he had never left the mark. This would complicate the entire weekend, and she could not very well tell the world she had been necking with her ex- fiancé, much less her current fiancé. It was improper, and she was supposed to be a good example of shining discipline to these men and women, the future of this corporation.
“Fuji,” called Devilin’s voice from the other side, followed by a gentle rap on the door. “May I come in?”
Fuji reached across the floor and pulled the turtleneck back on, straightening her shirt and hair before going to open the door. The moment the door was open she was assaulted by Devilin’s embrace as he lifted her off of her feet and did not put her down again until he had her thrown onto the bed. He lifted himself over her and looked deeply into her eyes, green reflecting the darkness of his red, before he smothered her with hot, lustful kisses.
“This is great,” he said, full of bubbly happiness that seemed out of place on a man built like a God but looking more like the Devil. “We now can embrace our relationship instead of hiding it in the shadows.”
“Do you like being told who to marry?” Fuji asked indignantly from below him.
“I do when that someone is you, Fuji,” Devilin said with all seriousness. “You see, I love you, and I am glad to marry you, but your heart is still torn.” Devilin’s hands were fast, and in a moment Fuji’s turtleneck was lost amongst the bedcovers, his red glowing eyes looked down upon the bruise on her neck. “A love bite, from Amatsu, I presume.”
“Yes…” Fuji said honestly, though her hesitation left her with less clarification of which her heart truly belonged to.
“Will you disobey your mother?” Devilin asked bluntly.
“What?”
“Don’t ask inane questions trying to avoid my question,” Devilin snapped, his true anger showing through. “Will you defy your mother and not marry me?”
“I… I can’t,” Fuji admitted whole-heartedly.
“Than I’ve already won,” Devilin smiled, sliding off of his girlfriend, and now fiancée, with ease. He looked over to her lustfully, his eyes reading all of the details of the things he wanted to do to Fuji’s body, and this time it had her flushing and turning red, reaching for the covers to cover herself. “I see what Amatsu saw, now,” Devilin said, his eyes never leaving her face and body, he took her all in in one gaze. “I see the innocent Fuji who tried to be such a good girl. Does he know how greedy you really are, and how much you need to feel loved and wanted? It is the only reason you let him touch you now, because he is showing you attention, but you two would be together if he showed you enough, but he didn’t. He let you go Fuji.”
Fuji reached her hand up, ready to slap Devilin, but he caught it with perfect ease. “How dare you?” she cried. “Are you trying to win me or lose me?”
“I can’t lose you now,” Devilin said to her, “you’ve already made your decision, but the sooner you realize that Amatsu doesn’t love you enough, and I do, the sooner you can get over this infatuation with him and love only me.”
“Are you receiving some sort of rise out of this competition with Amatsu over me?” Fuji snapped, trying unsuccessfully to pull her hand away. “You seem to be enjoying the fact that he is trying to win me and I’m lingering between my feelings with him and you.”
Devilin released Fuji’s hand, watching her fall back onto the bed from the strength of her pulling to be released. He looked down at her, milky limbs and perfect breasts, soft auburn hair and gem-like aquamarine eyes that matched the engagement ring still on her finger. Devilin reached towards her and in his own cat-like grace pulled it from her finger and flung it across the room, the gold and aquamarine disappearing amongst the books along her shelves. He reached into his pocket and shoved a new ring onto her finger, a much more extravagant piece of jewelry with rubies and diamonds, and one lone green gem to match the color of her eyes. “This is the bonding of our two souls,” Devilin announced.
“I notice you are the overwhelming color on this ring,” Fuji pointed out, glancing down at it as Devilin helped her sit back up once more.
“I need to overwhelm you somewhere,” Devilin said, stepping away from the bed once more. “I may be young, but I know what I want, and Fuji it has been you since the first day I saw you.”
“Devilin…”
“No more tonight, Fuji,” he said flatly. “I do not wish to fight with you. Get the rest you claim you needed, tomorrow’s party will prove to be quite entertaining. Good night, but lovely beauty.” Devilin closed the door behind him and left Fuji to and play with the devices of her mind, which were reeling. She reached for her cell phone… but did not know who to call. Shai and Yuki both had been out of reach, and what was she to do, call Amatsu and tell him she was engaged?
Fuji went to bed miserable, and did not expect to awake much better.
Author\'s Note: Arranged marriages still go on in Japan, but as Fuji mentioned, usually in women and men who are nearing their thirties. Because Japanese lifestyles are so busy many people miss the opportunity to meet someone, though manga/anime/stories rarely show you this aspect. The intention is to push work, work, study, study, and teens and early twenties often lose themselves in this fact and do not find a companion. So mutual friends, or dating services, will set up \'arranged\' marriages. What it actually does is introduce you to someone of the opposite sex, you go on a few dates, and see if you are compatible. If you are compatible as companions they will marry. 90% of arranged marriages MAKE IT. Only 10% end in divorce.
The other aspect of arranged marriages are through corporate powers and politics, as you are seeing happen with Fuji. To make a union between businesses or political parties people will marry. It is much like ancient times when kings married queens for the lands, or nobles married other nobles for a higher power.
Though both of these types of arranged marriages become less and less likely every generation, it is still common enough that it is not out of place for Noriko to ask her daughter to marry someone she believes will be a powerful business leader.
That is my little tidbit of information for you!
There is a part at the end that describes something a bit more about this chapter, but I can\'t mention it now it will give something away.
