Bruises

Kita here. @_@ Sorry it\'s so late. x.x I had exams... And got lazy and crap. >.> Anywho, here\'s the next chapter... Oh, and I\'ve never actually played laser tag, and got the information from a friend, so if it\'s somewhat innacurate, that\'s why.

Chapter 10
Bruises

\"Good, they\'re finally out... Let\'s get in before anybody else does,\" Toya said, grabbing Kira\'s arm and running towards the laser tag entrance.

Inside was darker, though light enough to see the basic layout. Up front was a slightly raised platform where someone, assumably the person in charge, was standing.

A few other people entered the room before the door was closed, making it even darker.

Kira glanced around the room, looking at the walls decorated with glow in the dark chalk as the instructor told them how the game worked.

A few moments later they were led into another small room, where they were handed vests and laser guns.

\"Ever play this before?\" Kira asked.

\"No... You?\"

\"Nope. Can\'t be that hard though, right?\"

A door to their right was pulled open by the instructor, and they walked slowly in, hearing the door close with a resounding bang behind them.

Inside it was nearly pitch black, thick, gray, sweet-smelling fog billowing all around and pounding music filling their ears.

Kira quickly lost track of his friend in the darkness, and wandered around, looking for the shiny silver parts on the vests that were his targets.

/There\'s someone.../ Catching sight of something shining, he pulled his gun up, aimed, and squeezed the trigger.

He couldn\'t help but laugh as the red beam reflected off of what he discovered to be a mirror, and narrowly missed his shoulder.

/If anybody asks... I meant to do that./

Hoping to seek out someone other than himself, he slinked off through the darkness.

- - -

A while later he was startled by yellow lights coming on with a snapping noise, followed by a dinging noise. /Must be over.../ Following the lights, he made his way to the exit, meeting Toya along the way.

\"Get anyone?\" He asked the blue-haired boy.

\"A few people... You?\"

\"I nearly got myself first.\" He laughed. \"But I got in a few shots later.\"

After handing in their vests and guns, they found out that the person with the most points had been one of the other people in the room.

\"Oh well, I guess we tied, sort of,\" Toya said, shrugging. \"It was fun anyway.\" Kira nodded his agreement as they headed up to the dance floor and the bar next to it. He then stood by the bar looking out at the crowd among the neon lights on the dance floor as Toya went to buy them something to drink.

Within seconds of his departure, something tall, brunette, and wearing far too little clothing approached Kira, high heels clicking and hips swaying. He raised an eyebrow. \"Do you want something?\"

\"Well... Now that you mention it, I wouldn\'t mind having you,\" she said with a wink, and received an unimpressed green-eyed stare in return.

\"Sadly, the feeling\'s not mutual,\" he said coldly.

This didn\'t seem to register in the girl\'s brain, however, as she continued. \"Such pretty hair you have,\" she said, and reached out to run her fingers through it.

Kira almost visibly twitched. \"Don\'t touch the hair...\" He said, intensifying his glare. Unsurprisingly, this merely resulted in a giggle and the continued assault on his orange-red locks. /Stupid female... Must be all the hair spray gluing that hair of hers into place, it\'s getting to her brain./

He opened his mouth to say something else, but paused as she suddenly pulled her hand away. He figured out why a second later as a pair of arms wrapped around his waist. He tensed as a face nuzzled his neck. /Oh god, don\'t tell me there\'s another one... Where\'s Toya when you need hi-/

A blush quickly spread across his face as a familiar voice whispered, \"sorry, I need to make this look convincing...\" The breath right against his ear sent shivers down his spine. He gulped. Well, there was Toya, arms wrapped tightly around him, and very, very close. A fact that was quickly putting all of Kira\'s senses on high alert.

Finally the warm breath on his neck ceased as Toya lifted his head slightly and rested his chin on Kira\'s shoulder, looking at the brunette with eyebrows raised. \"Can I help you?\"

She blinked several times, her mouth forming an \"o\" shape, then backed away and disappeared into the crowd.

Toya started laughing, seeming to forget for a minute about their close proximity. Kira, on the other hand, couldn\'t seem to find enough oxygen to laugh, until the boy behind him quickly took a step back, and he released the breath he hadn\'t realized he had been holding.

\"Sorry about that...\" Toya said, coming around to face the redhead, blushing slightly. \"I noticed she was bugging you, and I figured that would get rid of her pretty quickly.\"

Kira shrugged. \"No big deal. Thanks for getting rid of her. She was driving me insane.\"

\"I know the type. I\'d pull something like that on Sashi if there wouldn\'t be a rumor going around the entire school the next day that I was gay.\"

Kira nodded. \"God, the look on her face was priceless.\" They both cracked up, neither realizing that they had completely forgotten about the drinks that Toya had hastily laid on the counter when he noticed the girl hassling his friend.

\"Whoah,\" Toya said as he glanced at his watch. \"We should probably be going... It\'s almost 11:00 already.\"

\"Geez, tonight really flew by...\" Kira said as they headed for the phones to call Jo. Toya nodded as he made the phone call.

Ten minutes later the limo pulled up outside, and the boys ran up and climbed in.

Kira yawned and stretched, wincing and running a hand gingerly over his ribs. They hurt like hell from the day before, and had started to bruise pretty badly. He was somewhat worried about getting in the hot tub later. He wasn\'t very good at lying, and if Toya saw the bruises, he was sure to ask questions. If the blue-haired boy had noticed his pained expression though, he didn\'t show any sign of it.

When they arrived back at Toya\'s place, Kira stumbled out after a much more energetic Toya, wondering where the heck the guy got all his energy.

\"Tired, Kira?\" Toya asked with a small yawn as the other stifled another yawn.

\"Just a bit,\" Kira replied with a laugh.

\"Do you think the hot tub will wake you up a bit?\"

\"It\'ll probably put me to sleep... But oh well... Need to go get my bag.\"

Toya nodded and followed him into the den where he had left his bag, then led him through a small part of the house and out through the back door.

They emerged in what could be called, very modestly, a backyard. Ringed by thick hedges, the area was very secluded. Other than this, however, and the soft bright green grass, the place was rather unremarkable. Elegant looking, yes, but it just didn\'t have that lived in, worn out from daily use kind of feel to it that Kira had become so accustomed to.

A moderately sized hot tub was set in the center of the rectangular yard, clearly the focal point, and a small building stood off to the side of it. This was where the redhead was led next.

\"You can change in there,\" Toya said, pointing towards one of several small rooms within the building. \"There\'s a robe in there too, to wear until we get out there. It\'s kind of cold out.\"

Kira nodded and slipped into the first of the small rooms, changing quickly and pulling on the white fluffy robe, then walking out to find the other boy already changed and waiting for him, wearing an identical robe. \"Ready?\" He asked, then headed out the door after receiving a nod from the other.

Kira resisted a wild urge to throw off the robe and roll around on the grass as it tickled the bottoms of his feet while he walked towards the hot tub. /Come on now, you don\'t want him thinking you\'re completely insane. Always best to get to know them a bit better before springing your weird side on them. Mm... Sure is soft though./

Toya hit a button on the wall of the hot tub, causing the cover to mechanically retract, revealing the bubbling surface of what Kira guessed to be waist-deep water. He ran a hand along the fine mahogany finish, the stars reflecting off of seemingly everything and making it feel as if he were surrounded by the night sky.

He blinked and looked up a moment later upon hearing a splash, to see Toya already sitting on the far side of the hot tub. \"Coming?\"

/You don\'t know the half of it.../ He couldn\'t resist glancing quickly across the exposed portion of Toya\'s chest as he climbed the small couple of steps mounted on the side and slowly slipped into the water. He could almost swear that he felt a pair of brilliant blue eyes following his every movement, but he shrugged it off as wishful thinking. He was very thankful for the darkness though, hiding his bruises.

\"Ahhh... This is perfect...\" He murmured with a yawn as he tilted his head back to rest against the side.

\"I know...\" Toya agreed with a contented sigh. \"I love it out here, especially at night.\"

\"Mm hmm... The stars are beautiful...\"

The two boys sat like that for a short while, basking in the complete relaxation it was bringing, not talking much. It was a comfortable sort of silence.

Finally, Toya stood with a yawn. \"It\'s getting kind of late... We should probably go in. Movies to watch a su- Whoah!\" As he attempted to make his way across the hot tub to where Kira was sitting, his foot slipped and he ended up tumbling towards him instead.

Kira suddenly found it difficult to breathe as he came face-to-face, and nearly mouth-to-mouth, with his friend, who had put out his arms to brace himself on either side of Kira, and had somehow ended up torturously close to him, his soft breath mingling with Kira\'s own, slightly parted lips just begging to be kissed. All he had to do was move an inch, and...

\"Ahem.\" Toya pulled away, laughing sheepishly. \"Sorry, I slipped.\"

Suppressing his disappointment, the redhead, as usual, laughed it off. \"And I thought I was the clumsy one around here.\"

Toya just smiled and offered his hand, pulling Kira up when he took it. \"Watch out, it\'s slippery.\"

\"So I\'ve heard.\"

Pulling on the robes the second they reluctantly left the inviting warmth of the water, the boys ran back to the small building near the tub to change.

- - -

Fifteen minutes later they had returned to the den, Kira immediately grabbing a bowl of gummi bears and nearly devouring the entire thing in moments.

Toya laughed. \"We\'re going to have popcorn too, you know. No need to fill up on just candy.\"

\"Hm, good point,\" he replied, grabbing a nearby bowl of chips. \"Variety is the spice of life. Or... It\'s nutmeg. I can never remember.\" His voice was slightly muffled by the amount of gummi bears in his mouth and stuck into his cheeks. He looked like an oversized chipmunk. \"\'Sides, I\'m not a huge fan of popcorn.\"

\"You seem to be a huge fan of gummi bears, though,\" Toya said with a laugh.

Kira nodded vigorously and finally swallowed the rest of the candy in his mouth. \"So, what are we watching?\"

\"Your pick,\" the other boy replied, and pointed towards a table where several movies had been laid out. The redhead quickly chose a comedy he hadn\'t seen before and they settled down to watch, Toya munching on popcorn and his guest sampling a variety of different things that he\'d bought.

The movie quickly had them both laughing frequently, and a particularly funny moment happened to strike just as Kira was raising his glass of fruit juice. Somewhere in the process of bursting out laughing, choking, and doubling over, he managed to get his shirt covered with bright red juice. \"...Oops.\"

Toya made a face. \"You should probably get that off.\"

Forgetting about the bruises he\'d been trying to hide, the redhead quickly peeled off the soaked t-shirt.

He definitely regretted it a moment later.

\"Kira... Where did you get the bruises?\"

\"I... Fell,\" he muttered quickly. \"It\'s nothing, I\'m fine.\"

\"Fine? It looks pretty painful.\"

Kira hissed in pain at a soft poke in the ribs. \"Ow!\"

\"Thought you were fine?\"

The redhead just muttered something and pulled on a spare shirt taken from his bag.

\"Kira...\" His tone became more serious. \"How did you really get those bruises? Has... Someone been hurting you?\"

In response he was met with a pair of dark green eyes, the swirl of thought and emotion within them unreadable and known only to their owner. \"Don\'t... Just don\'t.\"

\"But-\"

\"Please... Just leave it alone.\" Finally looking away, he crawled into his sleeping bag and lay down, his back to Toya. \"Tired... Going to call it a night.\"

Sighing, Toya did the same.

@_@ Well that felt sucky, for the most part. Oh well. >.>
