Chapter One

A/N: As you may have guessed, this story has been adopted by myself, KoKoa B! :D I will be getting advice from Kera on ways to finish this as well as doing some slight editing. So please have patience, fellow readers!

One.

Kale hated new jobs. Hated them with a pure passion. He was only doing it because his parents, who could have hired him at the pub, had dropped it into conversation so many times he thought he best had actually do something about it before his mother came into his room and had a “sit down” with him again. He shuddered at the memory of the last “sit down” she’d had with him.

Sighing and running his hand through his scruffily cut jet black hair, it fell into his eyes and over his glasses in and annoying fashion that he had grown used to. It had been like that since college and his best friend, Cody, his hair pretty much mirrored the same style. Kale really wished his best friend was here right now, waiting with him for the interview. Cody was pretty nice to look at, even if he was Kales best friend. He had dark brown hair, bordering on hazelnut colour and deep chocolate coloured eyes that always had some sort of glint to them. His smile was always cheeky and full of laughter and Kale loved it. He had to admit to himself, he did crush on his best friend sometimes.

Kale Saunders?’ a male voice called into the corridor and Kale jumped up, nearly tumbling over his own feet. He straightened up and smoothed his hands down over his white shirt and ties then the thighs of his black jeans before following the interviewer into the office, ‘take a seat,’ the other guy said, motioning to the empty chair opposite the desk before he slipped behind it. Kale knew the guy was called Malcolm Hueg and he owned the restaurant that Kale was applying in, but he didn’t realised he would be so young.

As he sat and shifted on the seat Kale properly took in his face. He’d expected him to be Asian but clearly he was wrong because the man sat opposite him was British. His eyes where a grass green colour that sort of fixed on his face and his hair was a mixture between light brown and golden colour, the golden tendrils where catching the light as Mr Hueg drew his hand through his short hair. It was close cut so it only just brushed his ears slightly and the small fringe didn’t even reach his light coloured eye brows. He looked about 24 or 25 maybe, far too young to be owning a restaurant. Or was he, Kale wasn’t sure. He just needed the job, badly.

Er, Mr Hueg..’ kale started but was interrupted almost instantly,

I’m not Mr Hueg,’ the blond said, flashing his green eyes up to meet Kales solid brown ones. Kale stared at him with a confused look on his face then felt the blush creep up his pale complexion. Then the blond guy chuckled softly, it was a liquid sound that flowed over Kales skin and made him shiver slightly., ‘I’m Nathan, Nathan Rykard,’ Nathan smiled softly at Kale and his blush became solid on his face. Kale swallowed dryly and nodded, ‘Right lets get on with it then,’ Nathan said as he began the interview.

___

Kale exhaled roughly as he left “Hueg’s Thai Chi”. He stood on the pavement and rubbed his face roughly, drawing in his breath in short pants. He was useless at interviews. He knew he hadn’t got the job and it was only waiter come barman gig. Rolling his shoulders Kale sighed and tucked his hands into his pockets and started off down the street, heading back towards home. The Wander Peacock was his parents pub, but he’d been living there all his life. It was a nice place, with a dining area and kitchen for meals during the day and then the sofas and bar stools for the evening and night punters. Its where the gang usually met up and spent nights or afternoons hanging out.

The gang that consisted of himself and his best friends, Cody and Ellie, who clearly had a thing for each other even though she was with Taylor, who was usually about. Then there was Lee and Sara, who where way too loved up for their own good. That left Kale pretty much alone, unless he found a pretty boy for the night. He sighed and turned left off the high street, trailing towards the Peacock and some of his friends.

HEY KALE!’ he jumped and turned, his scruffy hair flopping over his eyes slightly as he did. He broke into a smile as he caught sight of Cody moving towards him. Kale peered at his friend and caught sight of his thing. His thing behind his now girlfriend, some stick thin blond bimbo who called herself Ziggani. She was so coated in fake tan Kale often wondered if you scraped it off what would be underneath. He sighed and waves slightly at the two-some as they approached, Ziggani whining about something as Cody pulled her along.

Hey guys,’ Kale muttered, rubbing his arm in a nervous fashion. He didn’t like Ziggani, she always seem to be looking down at him,

How was the interview?’ Cody asked, his chocolate brown eyes boring into Kales solid ones,

Dunno, gotta wait and see. The assistant manager was well cute though,’ Kale beamed slightly, remembering Nathan’s smile and how his hair shone in the sunlight. He shivered slightly and turned to walk along side of Cody, flat out ignoring Ziggani who was huffing to herself about something,

Ah don’t mind her, she wanted to stay in. Again,’ Cody whispered into Kales ear, his breath hot against his neck. Kale had to catch himself from shivering in enjoyment. Why so horny?  He thought to himself as they made their way down the street till The Peacock came into view. A two storied Victorian styled building, all black and white, with the over colourful sign hanging over the main door, his parents pub and his own bedroom had never looked so inviting.

They slipped into the warmth of the pub and where instantly greeted by the cheer of Ellie and Taylor, who greeted them all with laugher and the promise of alcohol. As Ziggani slipped onto the settee next to Taylor and instantly struck up some conversation, Cody dropped down next to Ellie, his hand lightly brushing over her knee and outer thigh down to her hip. Kale smirked and turned towards the bar, intent on getting another round in as his mother slipped up behind the bar.

Kallle,’ his mothers voice drawled, thick and warm,

Yes mother?’ he answered, eyeing the Jack Daniels bottle behind her head,

Did you got to the interview?’ Kale met his mother eyes as he noticed his father slipping closer to listen in, ‘Well?’

Yes mother, I went. I did it. Was a fantastic experience,’ Kale mused his mother, pointing to the JD, ‘double and coke please mummy,’ he laughed softly as she rolled her eyes, turning to pour the drink. Kale ordered the rest of the groups usual alcoholic beverages and took the tray as his mother handed it over. He carefully made his way back to the table and slipped it onto the table before dropping onto his favourite maroon arm chair and snagging his JD and coke. He leaned back into his chair and sipped whiskey lightly as he listened to his friends banter away. His mind slowly wandering back to the interview and the way Nathan's eyes lit up as he asked questions.
