DL Chapter one

Summary: The world is full of things that still scare its own people. Some humans still fear the unknown. Others embrace it and start a new family. The story is still unfolding. Everything we do we do to feel normal. We’ll hide it and keep going. We don’t tell just anyone who or what we are. Everything happens for a reason that was what we were always told. So why did it have to happen to us? We have scars physical and mental. We fear just like you and everyone else. Fear can change anyone.

Rating: Will change as the story goes on.

A/N: Putting it up front. Kieren is said as Kai-ran. Okay just wanted to tell you. Well here is chapter one of book two. I don’t have much to say about it other than… I had one hell of a time starting this everything else just leaked out after this. I’ll update when I can since I’ll be starting college soon.
Everything is slow at first then picks up. Any questions ask I’ll answer the best I can without giving the story away. If you have not read Pure Life, the first story, you'll be fine but a tad bit confused on parts. Anyways enjoy.

The tail twitched in his face. Sharp yellow eyes looked down at him, the pupils narrowed slits. Fishing wire hung from his mouth as they tied it to a loop on a small sharp knife. That mouth smiled at him and moved.

Find me

The image shattered and he was falling. His hand stretched out as he fell. He crashed through water as if it were glass and his body thudded onto the ground. Standing he looked around. It was black and it pushed in all around him.

You can do it.

Black tendrils shot out of the floor he was standing on and wrapped around his arms and legs. He tried to shout but his voice wouldn’t work. His body was sinking into the ground the tendrils wrapping around him. Someone was there his hand reached out at them. He was shouting, trying to shout. The fear gripped his chest and his face slowly sunk under. His hand was still trying to stretch out to that someone. Then he was falling.
****

His body landed in an odd position as he once again fell out of the bed. Blinking he sighed. His right leg was still on the bed and his back was against the side. His head was resting at an angle but he was looking up at the ceiling. His left leg was tangled in his sheets and the red and black body pillow he owned was laying next to him folded up.

Another sigh escaped him. The door to his room opened up. His head tipped back further to look at the person in the doorway. “Comfy, Kieren?” There was a smirk on his lips. It was his father. Well one of them.

“Very.” It came out as a dry reply. The person nodded with a laugh sounding as then the door clicked shut. He flipped over onto his feet to stand. His whole body popped and cracked from being in the spot for so long. His dark brown hair was sticking up in odd angles, a muss of a bed head. He yawned as he walked over to his closet. The closet had two sliding doors, one had a mirror and the other was a wooden door. He slid it opened to look at his clothes.

Only to slide it closed after staring blankly at them. He looked at what he was wearing. His black shorts stopped below his knees and his tank top had a funny cartoon on the front. Worn bandages were wrapped around his right lower arm and his left hand. His skin was a pale tan. Then he saw the person on his bed. His mismatched eyes narrowed at them slightly. The left was a blue gray and the right a light gray. “Yo. You are going to change your shirt? Cause if you don’t you know your brother will.”

He grunted as he pulled his shirt off. “He couldn’t catch me even if he wanted to.” His build was more lean and slim. On his left shoulder blade was a tattoo with the words, Luctor et emerge[1], in old English text with a barbwire wrapped around it. If his parents knew what it meant they didn’t say.

“Oh really.” A shirt smacked him in the head and he glanced back at another male from under it. “Get it on, you have five minutes to be ready or you’re walking to school.”

Shrugging, he pulled the green shirt off his head to pull on. The sound of the door closing caught his attention. Then he looked over at the person on his bed. His hair was black with neon green bangs. Icy blue eyes looked over at him. He had a grin on his face. Standing up he was a little shorter than Kieren. Kieren was six foot even while the other teen was five foot eleven and had even paler skin then him. He reached over snagging his dark blue hoodie off of the chair.

“Surge, what are you doing here?”

“Waiting.”

His head appeared in the hood and he swiped it back as he asked, “For?”

“You.”

“Why?” He was adjusting the strap on his bag that was over his shoulder now.

Surge snagged the pillow off the ground to place it on the bed. When he turned around to look at Kieren he found the male pulling on his black arm warmer with a thick red band near the elbow. The hand that was pulling the arm warmer on had a fingerless glove that matched the arm warmer. He flexed that glove hand and sighed. “I’m going to need some new gloves.”

“Just wear the bandages.”

“You still haven’t answered my question.”

“I was going to see if you wanted to go to the skate park this weekend. If you still can.”

“Sure.”

Looking over at Surge he was about to say something. Only Kieren stopped short when he heard someone running towards his room. His door opened and a tall teen ran in. His short dark blond hair was a mess sticking up in odd angels. Gray eyes flicked over to Surge. He nodded and Surge waved slightly. “Kieren.”

“What is it?”

The teen was taller then all three brothers at six foot two and he had a dark tan. His shirt was slightly loose on his form with baggy camo cargos. A bag was slung over his shoulder. His face showed his unease. “Dad knows and he’s coming.” They looked at the door finding another teen looking at them. He didn’t say anything as he closed the door quietly behind him.

Once it latched he nodded, “Well let’s go.” He had long black hair that reached his shoulders. His red shirt had a funny phrase across the front of it. The pants were black and had rips in the knees. He was the shortest with a lighter tan then his older brother. “Rowdy, calm down.” Blue eyes watched as the taller teen fidgeted on the spot.

“I’m trying Ev.” Rowdy wasn’t good when pressured things tend to show when he was. They all looked at the door as they heard it. Surge was already half way out Kieren’s window that was always opened. Kieren snagged his skateboard and music player as the others climbed out the window. When he turned to run for the window his door opened.

The brunette had a pissed look on his face. He ran for the window as his father tried to snag the back of his shirt. Kieren stumbled catching himself on the railing outside his window. The walkway he was standing on wrapped around the two floor house. He soon bolted after everyone. The sound of Ev’s jeep could be heard as he rounded the corner of the house, his father on his heels.

“Run Kieren!” He snagged a duffle bag and tossed it at the jeep. Surge caught it as he jumped from the patio deck.

Their father was shouting at them as the jeep tore off out of the gravel driveway. Kieren was clinging to the outside of the jeep as they drove. He passed his board to Surge so he could climb it. Rowdy let out shout as Ev laughed. Then Kieren found himself colliding into Surge when the jeep came to a gravel crunching halt.

They all let out a groan when they saw the truck parked at the end of the long gravel drive way. One of his older brothers groaned, “Damnit so close.”

“Give the bag up!” There was someone leaning back against the truck. They had black hair. Sky blue eyes watched them. His tan was as dark as Rowdy’s and he stood taller than all of them. The reason for what was happening was because in the last twelve years of school all three of the brothers would pull pranks on the faculty in the school. So far they have been to eight different schools. Most of the time they got kicked out of school for reasons other than the pranks.

Kieren reached down and looked at the two duffle bags. Making sure he reached for the right one. He snagged it to toss on the ground behind the jeep. There were two high schools: private and public. The public school took one look at their records and denied, denied, denied. The bad part was that they sent the refusal to their home with a big red word stamped on all three of the records. So against all protests and everything a teenager used to public schools would do to get out of going to a private school they ended up enrolled in one. Fun.

If it wasn’t for Surge’s dad all three would be home schooled by one of their dads… Yes dads. God help them all if they got stuck doing that. When they got there in the summer they met Sage who knew one of their dads who also showed them the private school that they all ended up having to go to. Then they met Surge who spent half the year living at the school and the other half with his family. Half the year his parents spent it working odd jobs outside of the smallish city.

The bag was picked up by their other dad. He may have been slightly shorter than them all but one look from him had you wishing you didn’t piss him off. Well ever since Kieren turned fifteen he made it his goal to push both of their buttons to the limit. He had just recently got off of restriction. Not grounded that’s easy stuff. No restriction meant his whole room was cleared of all things electrical and fun. They even took his skateboard, guitar and his posters of the wall. They watched as he unzipped the bag to find an assortment of items for harmless pranks. Gray eyes looked at them. That’s when they all looked away at anything other than the two. They heard a sigh and all three held their breath.

Surge looked at them only to jump when the older brunette spoke. “Get to school Surge.”

He nodded then scrambled out of the jeep. With a quick bye he was running past the truck with his bag shouldered.

The male looked at them again. He sat the bag on the side of the road. “Zev go to work I’m going with these three to see the principal.”

“Why!?” His gray eyes flicked to them causing all three to grow quiet.

Zev couldn’t help but shake his head, “Just be careful getting home Akira.” The truck door closed with a thud. It started and he drove off.

“Rowdy back seat.” The tallest of the three brother hopped back to sit next to Kieren. The door opened letting Akira climb in. After he was buckled in they headed to the school.

Once they pulled up to the school Akira reached behind to smack Rowdy’s leg. The younger wolf jerked awake muttering something. Kieren had his headphones in his ears listening to his music with his hood over his head that head was bobbing slightly to the music that could clearly be heard. While Ev was just gripping the steering wheel a little too tight. Akira held his hand out. Ev turned the Jeep off. He made a face as he pulled keys out. The teen was way too attached to his jeep. He saved up just to get this one. With a sigh Ev passed the keys to him. “I’ll drop it off after school ends.”

“Why can’t you just walk home?”

“And have one of you three sneak home during lunch. Not going to happen.”

“Don’t hurt her.”

“Ev…” His stormy gray eyes watched as Ev climbed out to hug the hood of the jeep. “It’s just a car Ev.” The raven haired teen stuck his tongue out at his dad.

As they got out of the jeep other students would glance their way. “Great…” Kieren muttered, “now I feel like a freak on show.”

“Kieren…” Their father rolled his eyes as he quickly walked up to the school. “Quit acting like the world is going to end. I have to come here anyways.”

Rowdy patted him on the shoulder, “It’s okay Ren once they get to know you they’ll stop staring.” The taller brother yelped as Kieren’s elbow nailed him in the side. “Ow okay okay.”

“Don’t call me Ren.”

“You never complained about it before.”

“That was before.”

Ev sighed as he followed the two. Hopefully they survived their last year of high school.

Akira sat on the chair at the table. It was a long cherry wood table that could sit fifteen people comfortably around it. They were waiting in the conference room. The door opened and Akira gave a loud swear. “What the hell are you doing here?”

The waddling man chuckled closing the door. When he bowed his body form changed. Standing straight up the three brothers gapped at the larger man. He was a good size taller than Zev and larger in build. A dark bronze tanned hand was held out to Akira. “Hello Akira. I thought I wouldn’t be seeing you anytime soon.”

When Akira stood there looking at his hand the man grinned and then chuckled. The laugh died when Akira shook his hand back his quirky smirk on his face. “Sandro what are you doing here?”

“It is Alessandro brat and what the hell?” His orange hair was pulled back into a long tail.

“It’s been a long time I’ve picked up a few tricks.” He tapped his head.

Sharp blue eyes swept over the three younger males. “And a few kids?” An orange brow was lifted in question. “I thought you were…”

“I am.” The growl caused the man to chuckle.

“You’ve gotten soft.”

Akira snorted as he looked away. “I could still wipe the floor with you.”

The man gave a loud guffawing as he pulled a chair out. “I bet you could. I’m just saying the air around you has soften that look you used to have is almost gone. Bet you could still pull it if you needed to.” He sat down and folded his hands on the table. “Okay Akira now who is who?” He motioned to the three teens.

He nodded, “This is Alessandro he is an old friend.” When Akira put stress on the old Alessandro gave a pout. It was quite comical on the older man. “These three are my sons the blond is Rowdy, black is Ev,” He reached over to yank the hood off of Kieren, “And this is Kieren.”

The man rubbed his jaw as he leaned closer to the three. He looked at Kieren, “I bet you’re the one who has a plan.” When he didn’t answer Alessandro motioned to the ear buds. “Take them out.”

Kieren pointed at his mouth, “I can read well I don’t need to.” The brunette standing behind the teens coved his face as he gave low mutter. “I don’t need them out.”

Ev gave a sigh as he pointed out. “Kieren plays loud music to drown out all the noise. Depending on his mood he can drown it out easily today he’s just being lazy. His lip reading skills are just as good.” The teen yelped when Kieren kicked him under the table. “And moody.” He jerked his legs up and laughed at Kieren when his foot had hit the chair.

“Noise.” The larger man looked at Ev, “What noise?”

“He can hear things. I can move things and Rowdy can feel and see emotions.”

“Okay so they got those from you.” Akira nodded. “Alright I need to know who is what.”

Their father unfolded his arms as he spoke. “Rowdy is a wolf. Ev takes after me.” He looked at Kieren. “And Kieren…”

“Nothing.” The teen pulled his hood back up as he sunk low in the seat. “I am nothing with a psychic ability.”

Alessandro looked at Akira who shook his head. “I see. I bet you’re just as tuff as both your brothers.”

Rowdy grinned as he leaned back in his seat, “He is. Can out do me on the court.”

“And remember things I can’t.”

Kieren snorted as he waved his hand at Ev and Rowdy while the other hand reach up into his hood to scratch at his neck, “I’m not that good.”

“Okay.” All three sets of eyes turned to him. “This school is different. Here you can be what you are without fear of people coming after you. So Rowdy if you need to shift to get a good stretch just tell a teacher they’ll show you where to go. Ev…”

“As long as you have a good library I’m fine.”

“Okay we have one of the largest it’s bigger than the public library. You’ll love it. My granddaughter says I could make a small fortune off of the books in there.” He looked at Kieren. “We have all kinds of things to do as extra activities. Your classes will be given to each of you at the front desk. I hope you like is here at Aminta Academy. Akira can I talk to you while they get their lockers and schedules?”

“Yes.” He yanked Kieren’s hood down again as he walked by towards the door. Kieren pulled it back up when the door closed.

“Sonuva’”

“Kieren.”

“What!?” He stood and left out of the door leading to the main office.

“He had that dream again didn’t he?” Ev looked at Rowdy. When the younger wolf gave a sharp nodded he sighed. “I don’t want to move again!”

Akira sat on the arm of the chair. “So what’s with the mood in that one?”

“When he has a certain dream he’s in a bad mood for the rest of the day.” He hands scrubbed at his face. “You read their files right?”

“Yeah.”

“Kieren won’t tell anyone what he really is because of what happened. We don’t know what’s up. He’s not wolf and he’s not a winged person. But he has both genes.”

“Wings?”

“Yeah I have wings.”

“Tattoos?”

“No real.”

“Wow. You really are full of secrets.” He nodded as Alessandro walked to a door. It was pushed opened as he waved Akira out into the hallway. “So that kid?”

“We’re still watching him he won’t be eighteen for two months. They all won’t be eighteen for two months. But something tells me there’ll be big things happening soon.” The two walked down the hall towards the front office. “Before I was told that they would be part of a change. I don’t know how yet.”

“Is that mark still there?”

Akira pulled his shirt to the side and smirked. A barcode tattoo was fading out, “His magic is gone it’ll take a while but it’ll be gone soon. I can now walk around without the fear following me. It took some time to get used to but I did. Without everyone trying to kill me the past few year things have been quiet.”

“You still bounty hunting?”

“Nope.” He walked alongside the larger man. “I gave it all up. I’m fine now and trying to finish what I started years ago.” Fingers found the onyx arrow head around his neck. “I found out a lot about myself and my family.” Gray eyes looked up at Alessandro. “I guess I should thank you for helping me then.”

The man slapped Akira on the back causing him to stumble slightly. “I only offered so you could get food. It were your eyes boy. It was because of them I offered you that chance. You had eyes that showed you were willing to fight to live. Who would have thought you would take out everyone on the first try.” He pointed at him. “You still have them. But I bet you’ll fight to keep everything you have now.”

“Papa.” They both looked over to see a stack of books being held up. They blocked the woman’s head. “Can you help me here I almost took out a kid that look like an old friend.”

“Sure.” Alessandro picked up the books with his hands to uncover a woman with long orange hair like the man next to him. Blue eyes were focused on straighten her shirt. “Where is Kyden at?”

The woman looked up. She came to the man’s shoulders, “She’s waiting to have a talk with you. Something about a fire in a lab…” Her attention was averted to the slim male next to her father.

Kieren jerked around when a loud scream reached the room. His brothers looked around him to see the sight. An orange haired woman had their father in a bear hug his feet barely touching the floor. All three of them looked at each other. “Aw come on Ma!”

Rowdy jumped when there was a loud shout behind him. A small lanky female walked past the three up to the orange haired woman. “You’re goin’ to choke the poor man.”

“Oh my Akira you have to meet my little baby.” The woman let go of Akira. He placed his hand on the wall to catch his breath. The three brothers walked over to find out what was going on.

“Holy fuck Ginger you trying to kill me?”

Ev called out first, “Dad.”

The woman dubbed Ginger turned to find the three boys from earlier. “Dad?” She looked at Akira. She walked over to look at Rowdy then Ev. Her blue eyes landed on Kieran then she waved excitedly at Akira. “No! No way! You and him!!” Ginger was giggling now. “The wolf from before. You and him!?”

“Yes okay now that we’ve established that can you lower your voice.”

She gave a sheepish look at the hushed hiss from the brunette. “Sorry I thought you disappeared for good when you went missing all those years ago. I was really worried after the bar incident and then I heard about something from your sister. I’m just glad you’re alive.” Her arm draped around a lanky teen girl. “This is Kyden. She is my little girl.” The teen shoved her arm off and scolded at her. “She just turned seventeen!”

The girl had orange hair with black streaked through it. Dark blue eyes glared at the woman. “Ma!” She had on a pair of jeans and a black shirt with a band logo on the front. A dark purple zip up hoodie was on over the shirt. “Look Ma I’ve got class to get to. I’m sorry about the whole fire thing still tryin’ to get it under control.”

Ginger looked at Kyden, “Fine but your cleaning up that mess from the other day as soon as you get home.”

“Ma… Jason is comin’ over today we were going to do some kung fu zombie bashin’ on the game system.” Kyden was whining as her mother crossed her arms.

“Then get it cleaned before he comes over. But first Kyden this is Akira. He’s the one I told you about when you found that picture.”

He twitched and muttered. “You still have that.”

“Yes not every day you see…”

“Shut up! Don’t even say it!”

Ev and Rowdy grinned, “What was it?”

Akira growled and pointed, “Class now.”

The two pouted but then shrugged as they turned to Kyden. “So what was it?” She grinned as she hooked an arm in both of theirs.

“Let’s walk boys I’ll tell you about that little pic.” Kieren followed after his head lowered watching the floor.

“Damn it.”

Ginger covered her mouth at the look on Akira’s face, “It’s not so bad.” She giggled and tried to stifle it at the glare on his face. “So what are their names?”

“The tall one is Rowdy and the short one is Ev and the one with the hood is Kieren.”

“So how did you come by with three kids that look like you and the wolfy from last time? Are you still with him? And when can I come over to say hi? And how old are they?”

“Not telling. Yes. Just call beforehand. All three will be eighteen.”

“It can’t be the new thing for same sex couples. That’s only been out for almost nine years.”

“Not telling! I’ve got to go get ready.”

He turned to Alessandro, “It was good to see you Sandro.”

“Boy what did I tell you?”

Ignoring him the brunette was about to turn when he stopped, “When did you take a fancy in being principal?”

“When I had grandkids I wanted safe.”

“Kids?”

The woman gave a sad smile. “Remember that day in the club. Their father took him before I knew I was carrying Kyden.”

Akira stared at her then nodded. “Ginger he’ll come back to you. Call it a hunch.”

“Thanks.”

He nodded his head. “I still have the same number call me if they cause any problems.”

“Bye bye Akira!” Ginger waved at him. He gave a slight wave when he walked out of the school. “He’s changed. I’ll have to give that wolf a hug for doing the impossible.” Alessandro chuckled at her large grin.

“Dad with blond hair is a weird image.”

Rowdy was laughing so much he couldn’t get air. Kieren shoved him to the ground and he just laid there trying to get his breath. “You two are idiots.”

Kyden placed her hands on her hips. “Okay let me see them.”

Ev passed the items to her. She flipped through the papers. “You all have gym together that’s over there.” Her hand waved towards two sets of double doors. “Rowdy and Kieren will follow me and if we wait long enough Jason will show Ev to his classes. I’ll show you around at lunch find your lockers and all that fun stuff, we have an hour lunch so don’t worry about it. We’ll snag somethin’ to eat on the way.”

“Why are you helping us?”

Rowdy pulled Kieren into a loose head lock, “Let the girl help.”

He elbowed Rowdy and shoved him off, “Why would anyone go out of their way to help new students like us is all I want to know.” The teen fixed his hood as Rowdy rubbed his stomach.

“Ma knows your Da and Gandda would have wanted me to do this as a punishment for settin’ the chem lab on fire yesterday and the kitchen from the other day.”

That had all of them looking at her. Then all three asked, “What?”

“I’m part Firebrand or a fire user. My Da was one.”

“That and she almost burned my hair off.” The girl squealed and ran past them. She jumped into another teen’s arms. “Hey spitfire.”

“My lil’ dragon is back!”

“Last time I checked you were little.” She went from his arms to his back as she pointed at the trio in front of him.

“These are my new friends.” She pointed at each one. Kieren made a sound in the back of his throat only to be smacked over the head by Ev. “Ev, Kieren and Rowdy. Here is Ev’s classes you’ll help him around since both of you got the smart classes. We’ll all be in P.E. together they want to keep those that aren’t human together for safety reasons. But classes are different. You’ll see what I mean in P.E but that won’t be till B list. That’s next week.”

A bell rang and Kieren sighed as he pulled his ear buds out. “I really hate school.” He wrapped the items up then stashed them in the pouch of his hoodie.

“Well Jason I’ll see you at Lunch.” She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. Her feet hit the ground as she hopped down. The small girl was as tall as Ev and came to Jason’s chin. “Well let’s go get you to class. Come on come on.”

Ev watched at Rowdy followed and then glanced at Kieren. “Go on before you get lost.” The teen stared at Jason. Glancing behind him, Ev saw the other teen who was grinning. His amber red eyes closed as he shoved his hands deeper into his pockets. He turned back to Kieren, “What is it?”

“Nothing.” He turned to walk down the hall toward the two waiting at the double doors.

“What was that about?” The raven haired teen looked back at Jason. He was right between Kieren and Rowdy in height. The way he held himself reminded him of a laid back person. His short chrome hair was rumpled and messed up. He had two black loops in his eyebrow and a silver stud under his bottom lip. Amber red eyes looked down at him.

“Kieren is wary of new people. He’s very… er… observant.” His hand waved around him. “It’s the way he is. He’s like the schemer. I bet he’ll know every exit, turn and stair way by the end of the day and have about five different ways to class all mapped out up here.” He tapped his head. “He treats a new person like a new place. Once he knows you better he’ll warm up.”

Jason turned his head. Ev caught sight of the four more piercings in his ear. It looked like a tragus silver stud, two black loops in the lob and another black loop on the top of his ear. Made him wonder how many he had altogether. “Well we should head to class.” He waved for him to follow. They walked through another set of doors in the opposite direction of the other three.

Rowdy was laying flat on his back with Kieren next to him. Once Ev was standing behind them for a few minutes Kieren spoke up, “I don’t like that dragon.”

The two of them looked at him. He had his ear buds in and was staring out at the street. They were waiting for their dad to come get them. Ev rolled his eyes, “You say that with everyone.”

“Funny,” The blond pointed out real quickly, “He warmed up to Kyden quicker than most.”

“She’s like an open book.” He muttered. “The dragon isn’t. He’s… like a journal with a lock.”

“Just get to know him.” He crouched behind the two of them. “He’s not that bad.”

Kieren shrugged his shoulders as he yawned. When both brothers looked up to find a clear sky Kieran muttered, “Relax I’m only bored.” Their younger brother was odd whenever it rained or stormed Kieren became lethargic or slept till it was over. No one knew why just that he did it. They really worried when it stormed because of the fact their father wasn’t very fond of them.

The two gave a sigh just as Surge plopped down next Kieren. “So how’s the classes?”

“Boring.” All three muttered. Just then the Jeep pulled up. Akira climbed out with keys in hand. The keys were tossed towards Ev. Ev ran over and caught his keys then he draped himself over the hood of the car. “Hello baby!”

“We would like to get home today Ev!”

“You can walk home Kieren if you don’t like it.”

He flipped Ev off which earned him a smack to the back of his head from Akira. “Get in the car and stop fighting.” The teen rubbed his head as he climbed into the back seat. Surge dropped down next to him with Rowdy crouched behind the two. The jeep started up when Akira climb into the passenger seat. “Homework?”

“For being two weeks late there’s not much for us to do. Just a lot of reading.” Ev turned around in his seat as he backed up. The jeep pulled out of the parking spot. He soon drove off the parking lot heading for home.

Akira walked in after the four boys. They quickly headed to their rooms to get started on catching up. He grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge and looked at the clock. An hour till Zev came down to fix dinner. He tapped the bottle against his lips as he let his mind think about something. Turning he walked down the hall and up to a pair of stairs. The brunette climbed the stairs pushing the cracked door opened. “Zev. When’s the full moon?”

There was mutter as a hand reached out from under a blanket to grab something off of the nightstand. He sat on the side of the bed where the arm was at. The blanket was pushed off his head as tired blue eyes looked at the small calendar. “Two weeks.” Reaching over he gently ran a hand through Zev’s hair. A soft murring sound drifted from the wolf.

Zev curled around Akira his head on his lap. “That’s what I thought.” A hand wrapped around the bottle of water in Akira’s hand. The cap made a snapping sound as Zev opened it. He took a drink and handed it back to Akira. “So dinner?”

“Not going to happen. Maria told me what else happened.”

“Damn it.” He took a drink. The brunette was able to close the bottle before he was pulled into the bed. He gave shout as Zev pulled him closer. “Zev!”

“Lay with me?” The tried murmur had Akira slumping against the wolf.

“Fine.” He sat the bottle on the nightstand. A hand rested on his stomach as that face was pressed against his neck. “How long will you be gone for tonight?”

“Couple of hours. I should be back round midnight.”

“Okay.” He closed his eyes as he listened to the wolf sleeping behind him. His body soon relaxed as he was lulled to sleep by the soft sound behind him. An hour later he woke to a loud shout and a thud. He groaned as he stumbled down the steps to find Rowdy with Kieren in a headlock. Ev was the referee this time as he stood on the couch watching.

“Come on Kieren don’t let him win.”

There was a loud yelp and he caught sight of Kieren sinking his teeth into Rowdy’s arm. “Kieren Rowdy easy with the biting!” Akira called into the living room as he walked by. There was another thud then Ev started counting. He walked into the kitchen to find Zev looking through a book. “What is it this time?”

“Something about the last ice cream bar.”

“Where is it?”

“In the freezer.” He opened it just as Kieren was announced the winner. Once he found it he grabbed it and closed the door. “Akira that is low.”

“Hmmm really?” The brunette walked over to him grinning. “I can think of some things that are low and underhanded.”

The wolf looked at him as he held the bar up. Just then Kieren came in and saw Akira with the ice cream bar as if he was going to open it. “You know that’s just not cool.”

“I know.” Akira hopped up on the counter then looked at the ice cream bar. He looked like he was debating over opening it. “I don’t know what I should do. It’ll be a good while till we have dinner.”

“Half an hour he can wait for it.”

“True true.”

Kieren gave an aggravated groan, “You two are evil when you team up.”

Zev chuckled, “I’d take back every time I called my parents evil but something tells me they found it just as funny as I do right now.”

“After dinner.”

“I’m hungry my stomach is gnawing on its self.”

“Akira is that even possible.”

“Might have to find out.”

The teen tossed his hands in the air, “Alright you win! Keep the stupid bar.” He left the room as the two chuckled.

“He’s got no fighting spirit when it comes to us.” Zev kissed Akira on the cheek. “Is that a promise?”

“Yes we’ll play wrestle in the bed later let me cook.”

“Gross!! I did not need to hear that.” Ev was making a gagging face as he walked into the kitchen. He sat at the kitchen island. Akira moved over and flicked him in the forehead. “Hey!”

“Get the plates out.”

“Aye aye.” He gave a mock salute as he walked over to the cabinets. The freezer opened and Akira placed the ice cream bar back inside.

“Ev tell Kieren he can have his ice cream after dinner.”

“Got it.”

“Hey while you’re in there toss me the ground beef.” The brunette pulled out the two pound package and tossed it to Zev not even checking to see if he caught it. There was a muttered thanks as the sink was turned on. The sounds of the TV floated into the kitchen. It didn’t take long before the three teens were sitting at the island bar. They watched as Zev quickly cooked and Akira was in the living room reading. “Akira!”

“Coming!” He stopped when he passed an opened window. He looked out to see a white and black cat resting on the porch swing. It turned to look at him. Yellow eyes watched him. “If you’re looking for a hand out you’ll have to wait till later.” The ears were tipped in black along with its paws and tail.

He closed the window and the cat laid down on the cushion. It’s yellow eyes watched the trees as the wind ruffled his fur. A dark mass appeared and he sat up growling. It disappeared just as fast as it appeared. Once gone he settled back down. An hour later a door opened and Akira sat a bowl of water and some grounded hamburger on a plate down. “Not much is ever left but it should help.” The door closed and the cat stretched out. He jumped down to eat the food. Might as well not let it go to waste.

[1]Latin – I struggle but I'll survive or I struggle and emerge (I do know it means the second but it holds the same meaning and I’ve looked everywhere for the right translations.)
