Time of your life

A group of students lined out in the row of chairs glancing eagerly at the clock upon the wall. The teacher long ago tuned out by ears gone deaf with thoughts of what the summer would bring. Along the anxiously awaiting students in the very back sat one who was reading peacefully as if dreading that last bell to ring. Mahogany brown hair framing her face and falling almost to her mid back brushing against her seat almost tangling around the bolt that kept the chair up to the frame.

" Hey Jane get your nose out of your book and talk to someone for a change" crystalline blue eyes glanced up away from her book with a smile. Full red lips glistened from the chocolate lip gloss that had been applied right after lunch a few hours ago. Grinning the girl spoke, " John it is about time you woke up. I thought for sure that I would have to wake you up or you would miss your bus." Grinning tenderly the girl ruffled her best friend's hair gently not minding the scowl that he gave to her as he usually did. Jane smiled softly as she looked to him before she spoke, " What do you have planned?

John just laughed as he sprawled out in the chair beside Jane. At six foot three the male had perfected the art of doing so without breaking or hurting anyone. Jane watched him with a pleased eye as she sat in her seat. The boy's blonde hair that came to his shoulder's and seemed to invite hands to touch, and on many times she had been forced to clench her hands so as not to run her fingers through those golden locks. When her eyes met blue met blue as she glanced past the lenses of his glasses into his own sky blue eyes that seemed to dig into her very being.

John smirked as he then spoke, " Nothing much just hanging out with Jaime, Michel, and Jack." He was about to say more when the shrill sound of the bell assaulted their ears. Around them others stood up from their chairs and left heading to their buses, cars, or walking on to their homes.

Shaking her head lightly as she stood up from her chair she slowly collected her things that would go with her back to the house. Looking up she then spoke, " See you next year Mr. Garnier." Seeing his wave she turned and walked out of the room going to her locker like so many other students. Spinning the dial for the last time she gathered her folders and the few random papers before stuffing them into her bag.Making sure that she had all of her things that she needed she then emptied it of the loose papers that she had thrown in there during the year. Waving to her friends, and with promises of seeing each other over the summer she began the walk home as she had done each day after the last bell had rung. Cloudy day with the threat of rain, and yet nothing could diminish her joy of finally being out of school for that summer.

As the houses started to become those of her neighborhood she just grinned as she started her daily routine. Dodge over the Thomson's kickball, jump over Mary Gillian's kitten, and finally walked up the brick stairs to the front door where she lowered down and grabbed her puppy Diamond who had come to greet her. Sighing softly she unlocked the door knowing her family would be in soon after her before turning her head to the old empty house. As she looked she was surprised to see a moving van over there unloading boxes out of the back of the van and into the house. Catching a quick flash of a guy her age with black hair Jane just smiled as she walked on into her house surprised that anyone would have moved into that old house next door.

Looking back to the boy once more she smiled tenderly before going inside and setting Diamond down on the floor. Walking up the steps she set her bag on her bed and grinned as she looked out the window in time to see the boy grabbing a couple of boxes with his mom at his side. Watching with shock she was unused to someone her age besides her sister living on the block. The other neighbors had children half her age or even infants in the cradle for someone her age to be moving in was something to behold.

Five minutes just watching the mother and son unpack Jane noticed the time and cursed slightly as she ran down the stairs and began to fix a snack for her siblings. Grabbing some strawberries she chopped them up and set them into four bowls before sprinkling sugar over them. Nodding she grabbed forks for each bowl and she then carefully mashed up the berries just as the siblings walked in. Daniel her sister who was a year younger then her, Taylor her youngest sister at twelve, Cain her oldest brother at seven, and Charlie who was the baby at five years.

Smiling to them she handed them their snack before speaking, " Nana will be home in about an hour. So Taylor if you could keep Cain and Charlie occupied that will help out a lot while Daniel and I clean up." Seeing the preteen nod her head Jane sighed in relief as she watched the four eat. After the snacks were eaten she rinsed the dishes out quickly while Daniel began to do laundry. Rushing through the house and collecting dishes that her mother had left all over the house she filled the dishwasher easily before she ran it. Going to the fridge she set a package of boneless chicken out for dinner before she started sweeping.

As the usual time flew past and before she knew it their grandmother came in. Smiling she spoke, " I have chicken set out for chicken and rice. Taylor, Cain, and Charlie are out in the pool." Biting her lip she looked at her feet in a nervous gesture before speaking again, " Did you know that we are getting new neighbors?" Sue smiled at her oldest granddaughter before speaking, " I saw them when I drove by now where is your mother?" Again biting her lip she fought on answering before she whispered, " She was gone when I got home and hasn't called."

Wincing as Sue shouted about her daughter's behavior and how she had already raised one children and that she was not supposed to be raising her grandchildren Jane spoke, " She'll be home soon Nana." Moving back before she could be struck she walked to the kitchen and began to cut up the chicken for dinner. Looking up she was shocked to see that the neighbors had finished unloading the truck and had gone inside. Shaking her head lightly she continued cooking while her Nana continued her rantings about how her life had turned since she had taken custody of her oldest two grandchildren. In just a few short minutes the meal was cooked and plated just as Taylor and the boys walked inside wrapped up in towels.

Smiling to them she handed them the dish ladened down with chicken, rice, broccoli with cheese sauce, and in their other hands glasses of sweetened ice tea. Smiling she fixed her own plate before she began to eat with them the gathering of sick talking of their last day of school. Laughing at some stories and grinning at the others they ate in joy before setting those dishes in the sick to be washed that coming morning. Soon the five were upstairs getting showers and headed to bath Jane being the last as always.

Jane sighed as she striped in the bathroom and looked down at her naked body. Breasts not even at a B had caused her to be teased by others though she had waved it away. Her hair had always been her pride and joy even when she was younger so she made sure to take care of it. A fairish complexion that she worked hard at keeping clean, and before she could worry herself too much she stepped into the shower. Cleaning herself and shampooing her hair she smiled as she heard noise from nearby where Taylor was dancing to songs on the radio while Daniel had her music set while she worked on her computer. Soon she was clean and she stepped out of the shower and wrapping a towel around her she walked out of the bathroom and then to her room.

Sitting in the window seat of her room she was brushing her hair and looking out of the window she startled to see someone looking back at her. Glancing next door into the window even with her own she saw the boy from earlier. Frozen in embarrassment she lowered her head before she dressed in a pair of Happy Bunny pajamas before she went to the window and lifted the window. Smiling as he did the same she tilted her head as she spoke, " I'm Jane Calhoun." Looking to him she smiled as he then spoke, " My name is Damien Ortega. Your the one that has been spying on us haven't you?" Blushing she nodded and her jaw dropped as he spoke, " Good."
