Follow your heart

A/N: This story is beta by Kylee

Chapter One:

He was a prince in disguise. A fake prince, who charmed his way into their hearts and ripped them out with his bare hands. Women were the easiest targets to fool. They were stupid and this made them easy prey for him. This woman was no different. Like a fool, she agreed to meet him secretly. He laughed and stared at the woman lying dead in a pool of blood. Her own blood. She never had a chance. She never knew what he was and what he was capable of. He wanted to laugh out loud with satisfaction, but he didn't dare make a sound. Not without alerting the people next door. He didn't want the woman to be found just yet. There was still one other thing that he needed to do before he would allow the woman to be found. He walked over to the table and opened up his bag. He took out what he was looking for and slowly made his way back to the dead woman.

“Did you see the news today? The reporter said that another body was found.”

Naru looked up from his laptop, “Yes. I've seen the news, and that is why I'm flying back to Tokyo this afternoon.”

“What! So soon, but you just got here last night.”

“I know, but it can't be helped. I am worried about my sister. She is all alone at home. Sorry Kou, you will just have to tell everyone that I'm not able to make it to our class reunion.”

Kou let out a sigh and sat down next to his best friend. “You know, everyone is going to be disappointed that you will not be there.”

Naru laughed and slapped his friend on the back. He doubted that anyone would miss him but he didn't voice it out to his friend. “They will be disappointed but you will be there to make up for it.” Kou then laughed as well. “You are right my friend. How about I give you a ride back to the airport?” his friend added.

“That would be nice, but first I would like to pick up a few things for my sister. I did promise her that I would bring back souvenirs.”

“Sure no problem, but first I need to make a stop at my uncle’s house. I need to pick up a few things from him for my dad,” said Kou.

“I have no problem with that,” replied Naru.

“Then my friend lets go,” Kou said with a smile. The two stood up and in no time at all they were ready and out the front door of Kou’s apartment.

Ryuu was getting more irritated by the minute. What he hated more than anything was his brother’s constant nagging. He had a plane to catch and a document that he needed to look over before he could catch his plane. He let out a sigh and looked up at his brother from the papers in front of him. “Rei would you just shut up already? I need to look through these documents and then catch my plane to Tokyo,” he barked at his brother.

“I will gladly shut up as soon as you promise to let me tag along.”

“No!” snapped Ryuu.

“Why the hell not?” Rei snapped back.

“Because I need you here to run things while I'm away,” Ryuu replied.

Rei sighed, he slumped down on the chair behind him and stared up at his brother. “You are so... hard-headed. God help the person who is going to be your mate.”

“I don't need a mate.”

Rei chuckled. “You might not like it Ryuu, but somewhere out there, your mate is waiting for you. I'm willing to bet my life that your mate is human,” Rei said with a wide grin. He knew how his brother hated the subject and seeing the scowl on his brother’s face brought a smile to his face. His brother glared at him.

Ryuu frowned and glared at his grinning brother. “Then he or she is going to have a hell of a long wait. I have no intention of mating with a human. They are a weak lot. I will not disgrace our kind by mating with them,” he said angrily.

Rei laughed and stood up. “We shall see,” he said to his brother. Then he left.

Ryuu sighed for the second time that day and stood up from his chair. He walked over to the window and stared down at the people below him. He could not help but wonder if his brother was right. What if his mate turned out to be one of those humans? Then what? He as the leader of their species would have... He shook the thought away. There is no way that he the leader would have a human as mate. It was unheard of. Content with that thought, he went back to work. After all, he had a plane to catch.

----------
Naru sat down in his seat and leaned back. He clipped his seat belt together and turned to look out the small window. He yawned slightly and gently shut his eyes for some sleep. Ryuu finally found his seat and sat down beside the sleeping man in the seat next to him. He opened up his briefcase and right away he looked over the rest of the documents from today. He let out a low curse, and vowed to make his brother pay for making him unable to finish reading the documents. There had not been enough time to finish them and he had no choice but to bring them along with him. He sure as hell hated reading on the plane. He would rather doze off like the man in the seat next to him.

Sometime later, Naru woke up from his nap. He never expected to wake up and find a handsome man sitting next to him. The man was tall, that he could tell right away. The handsome stranger sitting beside him looked to be in his mid-twenties. He was also wearing a very expensive suit. One that Naru could never afford with his salary. As if sensing Naru’s eyes on him, the man turned and looked his way. Their eyes met.

“Didn't your parents ever tell you that it’s rude to stare at people?” the man accused him in an unfriendly tone accompanied by a scowl.

“I wasn't staring at you. Your face happened to be in my view the moment I opened my eyes. I would never stare at people and even if I did, you are the last person that I would want to stare at.” With that said, Naru turned his head and looked out the window. This was why he hated good looking people. Shit. He had never been so mad in his life. How dare that man accuse him of staring at him? And the worst part was the way the man spoke to him. Shit. Just his luck to be stuck sitting next to a man like that.

Two hours later, Naru picked up his luggage and walked out of the airport. He was standing outside, about to call a taxi when a very expensive looking black car pulled up and stopped in front of him. He wondered who the person in the car was waiting for. The man who was sitting next to him on the plane walked right past him and got into the car. Before shutting the car door, the man looked at him for a long moment. He turned away from the man’s gaze and walked away. He dug into his pocket for his cell phone, and that was when he realized that he had lost his wallet. “Shit!”

---------
Miku pulled into the driveway and parked her car, she grabbed her purse and opened the car door to get out. She shut the door and headed up the stairs to her and her brother’s apartment. She unlocked the door and entered the small apartment, locking the door tightly behind her.

“Welcome home Miku,” her brother called out from the living room.

“Naru! What are you doing here? You said you would not be back till next week.”

Naru smiled up at his little sister. “I worried too much about you being home alone. With all these young girls going missing and turning up dead, how could I leave you alone for a week? My mind would not be at ease.”

Miku shook her head at her brother and walked up to sit beside him on the white couch. “You worry too much Naru. I am old enough to take care of myself.”

“I know, but still as your brother I have to watch over you in place of Mom and Dad who passed away three years ago.”

“You should worry less about me and worry more about yourself. You are twenty-three years old and you still have no girlfriend. Instead of you worrying about me, I should be the one worrying about you."

Naru laughed. “No woman in their right mind would want to date a nerdy guy like me Miku.”

“Get rid of those giant glasses and the girls will be all over you.”

“Ha-ha, you know I can't see anything without my glasses,” Naru reminded his sister.

“Then get contacts.”

Naru shook his head. “They are not to my liking. I much prefer these glasses of mine.”

“You are so stubborn,” Miku sighed in defeat. She knew it was no use to continue the conversation, so she chose to change the subject. “Did you get me any souvenirs? I'll kill you if you didn't.”

“Yes I did. It’s what you asked me for. It’s in your room,” Naru answered, glad that his sister had chosen to change the subject.

Miku eyes lit up with joy and she took off to her room right away. Naru smiled and turned back to the TV in front of him. A few seconds later, he heard his sister cry out with joy and a shout of thanks came from his sister’s room.

-----------
Ryuu loosened his blue tie and poured himself a drink. He sat down and looked up at the person across from him. “I want those women’s remains burned to ashes and the person responsible for this found as soon as possible. There is nothing I would hate more right now than to have those damned humans learn of our kind. Do you understand?”

“I understand very well my lord. I will get to it right away.” The man stood up and left.

Ryuu sipped his wine and pulled out his cell phone. He called his brother. It rang three times and his brother answered.

“What’s up Ryuu?”

“Don't what’s up me Rei. Where are you now?” Ryuu asked.

“Out for a walk. Why?” Rei asked. Then he whistled to the pretty boy walking past him. The boy turned and glared at him.

“I need you to look something up for me regarding what is happening right now,” Ryuu said from his side.

Rei smiled flirtatiously at the boy glaring at him before continuing his conversation with his brother. “Ryuu, I'll look it up for you as soon as I get home. I'll call you if I find anything. Bye now.” He hung up on his brother before his brother could protest.

“That idiot,” Ryuu murmured under his breath and then he drank his wine, his eyes on the wallet sitting in front of him.

“Hello pretty boy,” Rei said as he managed to catch up to the boy. “Tell me what’s your name?”

“You’ve got to be kidding. Why would I give my name to a stranger, not to mention that you are a guy? I would rather give my name to a pretty woman than to the likes of you,” Kou spat at the man. He was not in the mood to be hit on especially by a guy. He just had a terrible day already, and where the hell was his ride? How long was he supposed to wait?

Rei grinned and walked up toward the boy. “ If you won't allow me the privilege of knowing your name, could I at least get a kiss?” he whispered, so low that only the boy could hear him.

Kou’s hand came up and slapped the man hard. He angrily stormed away, wanting to get as far away from the perverted man as possible. Shit what the hell was wrong with today? Of all the days in the world, why did he have to meet a man like that? Shit. This was the first time that he been hit on by a man and he sure as hell did not like it one bit.

Rei watched the pretty boy walk away. He rubbed the sting from his cheek with a smirk. “You are so not getting away from me boy,” he said under his breath, and secretly he followed the boy. He watched as a silver car stopped in front of the boy and a man stepped out of the car. The man took his breath away. He had never seen a man who looked that good. He got a little closer so that he could hear the man and the pretty boy’s conversation and still remain hidden from view.

"I'm sorry Kou. I was so caught up with work that I forgot about you.”

Kou crossed his arms in front of himself. “Father, is work more important than me? Did you know that I was hit on by a man while waiting for you to pick me up?”

“What! Are you okay? Did he do anything to you? Tell me if he did and I will put his ass in jail!” Naoya practically shouted it out.

“Father, there is no need for you to say it so loud. No he didn't do anything to me. I smacked him in the face and walked away. Now can we get in the car and go home before you embarrass me more than you already have?”

“Sorry. I didn't mean to embarrass you Kou. We will continue this conversation at home.” Naoya opened the car door for his son and closed it as soon as his son got inside. He went over to the driver’s side and got in as well. He put his seat belt on and drove home. His mind was filled with what he would do to the man who dared to hit on his son. Once he found out who he was.

-----------
“Young master you're home,” said the butler.

“Yes I'm back old man,” Rei said cheerfully.

“You're in a good mood today young master.”

“Can't be helped old man. I just met the man of my dreams,” Rei announced happily, and like a little boy he skipped his way to his brother’s library.

“You're in a good mood,” his uncle commented the moment he entered the library.

“What are you doing here uncle?” Rei asked, surprised to see his uncle in his brother’s library.

“Your brother called me saying that he needed me to check up on you while he was away. And I must say that I was beginning to get worried when you didn't show up for dinner. Do you know how late it is Rei? Where have you been?”

Rei let out a sigh. “I was out and about," he answered. "Damn it! I can't believe this. It’s just like Ryuu, he just doesn't trust me at all,” Rei whined as he sat down across from his uncle, his good mood gone.

“You know that isn't true. Your brother trusts you. Why else would he leave you in charge while he is away?” replied his uncle.

Rei leaned his back against the chair and shut his eyes. He knew very well the true reason his brother asked his uncle to check up on him. It was because of his condition.
