*****Chapter 1: Believe in Love ****
Do you believe in love? Such innocent words, asked by people everyday, if I
had known what I know now my answer would have been different. It’s amazing,
the little things that others do that change you’re life, like how Josh
choosing to eat at a new restaurant...
Andrew Matthews 18, freelance journalist, freer then anything else, sat
waiting for Josh to leave his work. Josh and Andrew had been best friends
since first grade; it had been like mixing fire and gas, Trouble. Josh was
also the envy of Andrew, he was tall dark and extremely handsome, it didn’t
help that Josh was living his dream, training to be a teacher.
Andrew saw his image in the big glass doors that he wished his friend would
hurry up out of, at 5’5” he was average, honey blonde hair fell to his collar
and into his grey eyes. He always felt like he looked washed out, faded or
something, he felt it mostly with Josh, especially as he had a crush on his
best friend. It had started in high school and slowly built, but Josh liked
girls so Andrew kept quiet, each time Josh would introduce him to his new
flame a bile rose in Andrew but he’d always smile and play nice.
Finally after being 20 minutes late Josh appeared and waved to Andrew, Andrew
stood and started over but stopped, his heart felt like it was going to
break. Josh was holding the hand of Amber, his high school sweetheart; Andrew
finally knew why Josh had called him to meet for lunch. He’d hoped Amber and
Josh where over, that Josh had seen that Andrew had loved him for so many
years and finally returned that love.
Josh pulled Andrew into a hug and then released him, smiling that big goofy
smiled he always did. Andrew smiled up at him then turned to Amber, she was
small about 5’1” with fiery red hair to her waist and big blue eyes, that
Andrew thought made her look like a scared deer...Josh thought it was cute.
Amber flung her arms around Andrew and kissed his cheek, he forced himself to
hug her back, pain and hurt burning his throat.
Slowly they walked towards the new restaurant, Cantina’s Italian, Andrew just
listen and smiled, watching as Josh pulled Amber close, held her hand,
stroked her face. Tear’s burnt his eyes, he wanted to yell, stop Josh please!
Don’t you see I love you? Can’t you see that? He nearly walked into them not
releasing they’d stopped and turned to look at him.
‘Andrew buddy are you listening?’
Andrew felt his cheek’s burn and ran a hand through his hair, ‘to you Josh?
Never...’
Josh gently ruffled his hair like he had when they were kids, ‘I said do you
believe in love?’
Andrew didn’t hesitate, his words coming out harsh and bitter, ‘No.’
Both of them stared at me, eyes wide, neither knew what to say, confusion
passed over Josh’s face but not it Amber’s, a sad look and guilt. Panic hit
Andrew like a truck, his eyes locked with Amber, she looked away, she knew.
Andrew tried to speak, to think of anything but nothing would come, Amber
knew he loved Josh...Had she told him? Would she tell him? He knew Josh was
saying something but he didn’t hear he just stood staring at Amber, who
looked at the floor.
A tear slowly slid down Andrew’s face, he tried to stop it, to turn away but
both Amber and Josh had seen it. Amber reached out towards him; pain and
anguish clear in her blue eyes, confusing and concern in Josh’s dark brown
eyes. Andrew couldn’t take it, he turned away and ran, pushing passed people
not caring as they shouted at him, he hear Josh yell after him, he didn’t
turn but knew that Josh would follow, he always had.
Andrew turned around the corner and saw the man in front of him. He was tall
about 6’2” with broad shoulders and narrow hips, his eyes where hidden behind
dark sunglasses and he was in a charcoal grey business suit. He was in the
middle of the street taking on a phone or something, Andrew hadn’t slowed
intending just pass on when he saw the car, it was a sleek black car with
dark tinted windows, it was speeding long the street, he knew that it was
heading for the man in the suit, without thinking Andrew turned and run
straight into the business man.
Both men tumbled to the ground, the car tired screamed as the car turned
sharply in to the busy main street, car horns blared. No one seemed to move a
moment frozen with the shock and then the world seemed to speed up. Andrew
felt someone pull him up, asking him questions, but he didn’t hear them, he
was staring into the coal black eyes of the man he’d saved, stared at the
high cheek bones, thin lips and square jaw. He watched as other’s helped the
man up and pulled him away into another black car.
‘Andrew!’
Josh’s hard shake finally made Andrew turn and face him, slowly the pain in
his arm and face began to register to him. He looked down at his hand, there
was blood and dirt coving his hand, he started to reach up to his face but
Amber slapped his hand away.
“Andrew answer us please!”
‘I’m fine, really.’ His voice trembled, he now knew had stupid he’d been, he
could of been killed, he should be happy for his friends, everything. Tears
again started and this time he couldn’t stop them, he just reached up and
hugged both Amber and Josh...
Christian sat silent in the car, shocked at what had just happened the young
boy had saved his life. Christian looked down at his hand, a small scrap and
that was it, nothing else. His shirt had blood on and he intently knew it was
the boys; he turned to the other man in the backseat of the car with him.
‘Martin, find that boy.’
‘Sir?’
Christian turned slowly letting his eyes go cold, ‘I said find him. Is that
clear?’
‘But sir we don’t know...’
Christian raised his hand stopping Martin, ‘the boy’s name was Andrew, and we
have his DNA. I don’t care what it takes or costs. Fine him.’
‘Yes sir.’
Christian closed his eyes and thought back to the boy, his lean body, his
messy honey blonde hair and sliver eyes, yes he wanted the boy...He wanted
Andrew.
