Chapter 1
The sun was rising and the small radio alarm was ringing trying to wake a young brunette teenager. Jamie was starting to get annoyed with the sound and the sun shining through his bedroom window. It was really getting irritating now; his father was yelling his name from downstairs telling him its time to get up. Jamie removed his arm from under he covers and grabbed his alarm and through it to the ground with a loud thud. ‘Great now I have to get another one’ Jamie thought why sitting up in bed and rubbing his head of messy brown locks.
Jamie well how could you explain him, for a seventeen year old he did have the looks. Crystal blue eyes, short brunette hair with a few messy locks which wouldn’t go down no matter how much Jamie combed his hair. People would probably think Jamie was a sweet and kind boy by first glancing at him. It seemed his looks gave away that impression of himself to others. However Jamie was not really all that, his personality how would you say would be kind of cold. When Jamie was younger he was a sweet boy and laughed a lot. That all changed when Jamie’s parents divorced after his mother started having an affair with another man.
To Jamie it felt as if his mother had betrayed him in some way. He never understood why his mother did such a thing. However it has been eleven years since Jamie’s parents separated. When Jamie turned eight his father introduced him to a woman and told him that they were going to get married. This tared Jamie apart even more, he was starting to like just it being him and his father but now that was all changing. When it was their engagement party a guest who appeared out of no were introduced himself to Jamie saying that he was going to be his step-brother.
The wedding was huge since his new step-mother was the daughter of a very wealthy businessman known as Richard Collins. He was the president of the corporation he was running. About a month after his father remarried they ended up moving to the big city and into a very large house. Jamie got everything he ever dreamed of but do you think that made him any happier, hardly. Jamie’s step-grandfather spoiled him a lot since Mr Collins was happy that he had another grandchild even if they weren’t related by blood. The only other grandchild Mr Collins had was Jamie’s step-brother Nathan, Nathan was 23 and all the woman were in love with him.
Nathan had the looks the charm everything, he worked in his grandfather’s company. He would someday take over his grandfather’s business as the new president. Since Mr Collins had no son, he decided to make Nathan his future heir of his business. Nathan didn’t live with Jamie and his father and step-mother since Nathan was old enough to live on his own. So Jamie hardly ever saw his step-brother which was just fine with him since he didn’t really care. So that’s Jamie’s past story which just shows to tell you that is the reason why he doesn’t have such a kind personality.
Jamie wasn’t mean by cold well you could say it meaning not very sociable and doesn’t talk much to others. For example if he bumped into someone Jamie wouldn’t bother to apologise or for another reason if someone wanted to start a conversation with him Jamie would just plainly ignore it. Jamie wasn’t much of a person to smile and laugh which was understandable to his friends at school. Yep you probably wouldn’t believe it but Jamie had friends. It is even more surprising but Jamie happened to be the most popular guy in his entire school.
It was right on 8:00am when Jamie arrived at his school, the classes would be starting in about ten minutes so luckily he had enough time to get to his classroom. The school that Jamie’s father and step-mother decided to send him to was a very famous school. It was called ‘Saint Lukes’ the school was very well known for its reputation of being the number one school were sons and daughters from very rich families are sent to. Jamie was only in grade eleven their was only three months left until he would reach his final year of high school.
The bell went and class began, the day seemed to be going very slow for Jamie. He had been sent to the principles office after lunch, because he was accused of smoking on school grounds. Jamie however didn’t smoke because his father never allowed it. ‘No son of mine will be a smoker’ Jamie remembered what his father had told him. Of course their were some students who were quite jealous of Jamie and would do anything to get him in trouble. Jamie knew exactly who it was that told the teacher he was smoking and that was Nicholas Webber also a grade eleven. Nicholas hated how Jamie was such a big shot in the school, he never understood it but Jamie never got such great grades but for some reason everyone either liked him or wanted him.
Jamie didn’t really care that someone made up some white lie just to get him into trouble. He knew that who ever it was would probably be taken care of by one of his friends or some other student. You would probably think that Jamie was like a king at his school, no Jamie just happened to have a great reputation that was all. Jamie was the grandson of the famous Richard Collins. Nobody knew however that they were only related because his father married Mr Richard Collins only daughter. Jamie never told anyone that including his friends not to protect his fame just he wanted it to remain a secret.
The principle Mrs Williams rang his house but nobody answered, she asked Jamie if their was some other relative he had which she could call. Their was only one relative who Jamie knew that lived close by and that was his step-brother Nathan. Nathan had given Jamie his cell phone number the last time he visited. That was about six months ago and Jamie never called his step-brother not once. However Jamie had no choice since neither nobody had home picked up the phone. He told Mrs Williams Nathan’s mobile number, she dialled the given phone number. It was ringing but their was no answer, she was about to hang up when their was a ‘hello’ on the other end.
About twenty minutes later their was a knock on the principles door and in walked Nathan. Jamie looked up and saw his step-brother looking at him with a strange glare in his eyes. “I apologise for bringing you out here but since I couldn’t reach anyone at his house Jamie told me that he had an older brother which I could probably contact with, please have a seat”. Nathan sat down and listened to what Jamie’s principle had to say, Jamie knew he would get a big lecture from his father tonight. Knowing full well that Nathan would tell him about what happened today. “I see, I will tell my parents everything tonight”, ‘ding ding ding, see I was right’ Jamie thought to himself.
Mrs William told Jamie that he should go home for the rest of the day. Jamie grabbed his things and both he and Nathan headed to the parking lot. Jamie could already spot out Nathan’s car since it was the most expensive looking car in the entire car park. His step-grandfather bought it for Nathan, it had been sent over from over seas. Jamie put his school bag in the back seat and then got into the front. Once they were both belted up Nathan turned on the ignition and they were of. Jamie automatically put his side window down with a push of a button. Jamie put his arm up on the side and the nice cool breeze was blowing against his face.
The window then started to go up Nathan and pressed one of the up window buttons on his side which can control each window in the car. Jamie quickly removed his arm “hey what are you trying to do take my arm of” Jamie said in a huff. “I’m turning the air-conditioner on” the tone in Nathan’s voice was very different than to his normal tone of voice. “Look I didn’t smoke any cigarette alright a student told the teachers that so I would get in trouble” Jamie tried to reassure Nathan that he did no such thing. They stopped at some red lights and Nathan looked over at his little brother.
By the look on Jamie’s face it seemed in some small way that Nathan believed him. However even if Jamie did it or not Nathan still had to tell their parents. Nathan considered Jamie as his real little brother since he had no other siblings and also considered Jamie’s father as his real father also. Nathan’s biological father left him and his mother when he was only two years old. Nathan was happy when he found out that his mother was going to get married and that he would soon have a little brother. Nathan was fourteen when he first met Jamie but since then they both didn’t really have a brother to brother relationship.
Between the both of them Jamie always kept his distance from Nathan and didn’t say much to him and even Nathan’s mother. The tension between the two grew and grew, when Nathan turned nineteen he thought it would be for the best if he moved out. After graduating and knowing were his future lies with the company and all Nathan thought it was time to get a place of his own. Nathan didn’t just move out because he wanted to but because he thought it would be better for Jamie. Jamie never knew it but Nathan really cared about his little brother as brothers should.
The one thing Nathan always wanted was to have either a brother or sister and once he got it he never expected for his younger sibling to hate him. Though Jamie never even said once to Nathan that he hated him, Jamie just never had to. Jamie’s distance and resentments towards Nathan was enough proof. They finally arrived back at Jamie’s house and he got out of the car and grabbed his bag before running inside and slamming the front door. Nathan sighed before locking his car and then heading inside his once use to be home.
Nathan saw Jamie’s school bag on the floor and knew where he had gone. Nathan heard loud music coming from upstairs just as Nathan knew it Jamie was in his room. Jamie always seemed to have a habit of when ever he had something on his mind or was angry he would lock himself in his bedroom and turn the stereo on full blast so he couldn’t hear anyone outside his door. Nathan knocked on Jamie’s door knowing full well Jamie couldn’t hear him. Their was only one way for Nathan to get through to Jamie and that was to do the same thing he always did when they were younger.
Nathan’s bedroom was right next door to Jamie’s, when ever Jamie would get into one of these moods Nathan would get out through his window and climb onto the tree which was just outside his and Jamie’s bedroom windows. Nathan slowly climbed onto the branch which was right next to his brother’s window. He looked through and didn’t see Jamie any were. The only place Nathan had a clue were Jamie would be was in the small bathroom that was connected to Jamie’s room. Since it was his chance to open the window and hop in it was now.
Luckily for Nathan the window was opened, once inside Jamie’s room he decided to wait on the bed. The bathroom door slowly opened and Jamie walked out just wearing some track pants and a towel over his head. When Jamie saw who was sitting on his bed and saw his window opened the first thing he did was threw his towel at Nathan and yelled “STOP CLIMBING THROUGH MY WINDOW”. Nathan looked at him with a small grin on his face. His lovely blonde hair was in a little bit of a mess since he was climbing on the tree. Nathan had also torn a small hole in his white buttoned up t-shirt which cost him a lot of money.
Jamie picked up a controller from his desk and pressed the off button. The music stopped and the bedroom was silent. Jamie then walked over to his cupboard and picked out a plain blue shirt. “You know climbing through other peoples windows is like braking into someone’s house” Jamie said why putting his shirt on. Jamie turned around to look at Nathan “well why are you just sitting their aren’t you going to say something like you usually did when you broke into my room. The silent treatment was getting very irritating for Jamie. Without even thinking he stomped up to Nathan and grabbed him by the collar of his t-shirt.
Jamie just looked into Nathan’s eyes “what” was all that came out of Nathan’s mouth. “Tell me something Nathan why, why do you try so hard ever since my dad married your mum you had always tried to do everything so I would like you as brothers should and yet you know that I cant accept either you or your mother as my family” Jamie then looked down to the floor why still holding onto Nathan’s collar. “When my mother left with some other guy I thought everything was over, but dad he was strong and took good care of me but the moment he told me he was remarrying I couldn’t take it I tried my hardest to accept you and your mother as my new family but I couldn’t” Jamie then let go.
“I wanted things back to the way they were, it just being me mum and dad I never not once wanted my parents to break up I wanted them to stay together forever, though that was nothing but a dream, this house my school my step-mother and you are reality but not the reality I wanted, don’t you see Nathan I…I…I NEVER WANTED YOU OR HER IN MY LIFE I JUST WANT THINGS BACK TO THE WAY THEY WERE” tears started flowing down Jamie’s face. Jamie soon collapsed onto the floor placing his hands onto his weeping face not wanting Nathan to see him cry.
The only time Jamie ever cried was when his mother left but since then he had kept his tears locked up inside. Jamie couldn’t understand why he was crying right now and in front of Nathan which made it twice as worst. Nathan looked down at Jamie he couldn’t believe that Jamie had been thinking that since the moment they met which was nine years ago. Nathan got on his knees in front of Jamie and for the first time Nathan wrapped his arms around the crying boy. That immediate touch surprised Jamie, feeling the warmth of his step-brothers body against his own.
Jamie wanted to push Nathan away but it seemed as if his strength had been drained from his entire body. Jamie wasn’t sure what to think but for some odd reason it actually felt quite nice to be held by someone even if it was Nathan.
Well this is my first chapter I hope you liked it another one will be coming up…
