Why Me
so this is the first chapter. i know the first few chapters kinda suck, and i'm working to that, but it does get really good. oh and i would love some input on it so i know what to edit and fix up. thanks yall!!!********
“Mom, I really want yall to come to my competition today!” I yell.
Hey, my name is Fae Smith. Let me tell yall a little about myself. I’m 22 years old. I go to a college called The Saddle School. I’m a horseback jumper here. My horse is named Shah. He’s a 3 year old Thoroughbred. I have long light brown hair. Im tall and skinny. And I have blue eyes.
I have a huge jumping competition today, it’s the finals. It’s very important to me, and I really want my parents to come. But they never come to any of them! They are always so busy!
“I know you do and we will try our best to come,” my mother answers.
“Please mom, I’ll do anything if you try your hardest to come!” I start to whine. “Plus, you promised last time that this time you would come!”
“I know, we will come no matter what.”
‘Mom is being way to calm about this!’ I think to myself
“That’s what you always say, but you never come!” I complain.
“I know, I said I was sorry, besides we will come this time. You can count on it.”
“Your carpool is here, so get your stuff together and go to school.” my dad says.
On my way out the door, my mom yells from behind me, “Don’t forget, we will come no matter what!”
When I get into the car, Katie Breader is in the drivers seat. Katie is one of my best friends. She means everything to me. She goes to all my competitions, and I go to all of hers. She’s always there for me. She is an average sized girl, and she’s also my age. “Hey babe! Your parents gonna come to the competition this time?”
“I don’t think so.” I reply. ‘I really don’t think they will. I hope they do.’
Henry Covack starts laughing in the back. “I’m sorry, it’s just that you always give them such a hard time about never coming, why do you always bother asking them?”
“Because maybe they will actually cone if I remind them.” I explain.
Henry is a tall skinny boy who cares more about others than himself. Henry is another one of my best friends. He may look skinny, but he’s actually really strong. He sticks up for me when I really need it. Like when my little sister died, he and Katie were at my house, helping me feel better.
My little sister died from cancer 4 years ago. I loved her very much, and I was very sad for her to go.
For the rest of the ride to school, we talk about the test we have in our first class. We are all in the same classes together.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The test wasn’t too hard. I think I did ok.
I’m in third period. We are working on an English paper, when I get this weird feeling in my stomach. ‘Something feels wrong. I can’t figure out what it is, but something doesn’t feel right.’ I look out the window, ‘Maybe you’re just nervous. Fae, calm down!’
The office then calls our class asking me to come to the office. And I need to take all my stuff with me.
“Ooooo Fae’s in trouble.” I hear someone in my class say.
On my way to the office, many things go through my mind. ‘Why am I being call to the office?’ ‘What did I do?’
When I get there, I see 2 policemen, and one of them is my brother. His name is Mark, and he’s 27 years old. He takes care of me whenever my parents aren’t around, which is often.
When he sees me, he comes towards me. “Fae, I’ve got some bad news for you.” he pauses, he looks very sad. “Mom and Dad have just died in a car accident. They were hit by a drunk truck driver on their way somewhere.” A tear falls down his face.
I’m shocked. I don’t know what to say, and I start to cry. “Mark...... it’s... all.... my... fault!’
Mark tries to calm me down, “No it isn’t Fae, things happen and no one can control it.”
“Yes it is!!” I yell, still crying hard. Really fast I say, “I told them they had to come no matter what! They must have been rushing to get here and weren’t paying attention!”
“I’m sorry Fae. I need to go, but I’ll be here to pick you up after school. I love you!” And with that, he leaves.
It’s now time for lunch. Katie, Henry, and I go to Taco Bell to eat. I can’t stop crying.
“Let me guess, your parents aren’t going to come again.” Henry says. I haven’t told them yet about what Mark said to me.
“No they’re not coming. They’re never gonna come!”
Katie senses something is wrong. She asks me something, but I don’t understand her.
“What?” I ask.
“I asked you what’s wrong. You’re acting weird. The last time we saw you like this was when your sister died. So what’s up?”
Katie and Henry look very concerned. ‘I have to tell them. They’ll find out anyways.’ “My mom and dad.... my mom and dad........ my.... my. .mom..... my ....dad...........” I stutter. I can’t say it. I start to cry again.
“Fae, what is it?” Katie is getting very worried now. “Did something happen?”
“Fae, what happened to your parents?” henry asks.
“They’re.... they’re....they’re dead!” I’m crying hard again. I can’t stop. Katie holds me tightly. We sit there for the rest of lunch.
