Birth of a character

The tales of BWATG

Space moved, the stars twinkled in bright life, space clouds of red and blue moved in the spatial solar eddies. Light against dark, a flash of yellow light as the Mark 2 mining laser cut its path over the asteroid before it. The Gun was not attached to the normal ship it graced. The Probe class frigate safe in it’s hanger. No this time it graced the hull of the gigantic Horder class Industry vessel. This lone miner was sat, looking at the universe before her ship. Orlith thought there were worse places she could be. And she had known the worse places. She had not always owned her own ship, she had not even owned herself. Orlith had started her life as a slave. She remembered her mother somewhat. It was because of her mother telling her the stories of earth that she had named the vessel she was in after an animal on earth’s surface. Called a Mule, her mother had said in the legends it had been a beast of burden. And this was basically what this large ship was for, to move the ore she mined back and forth. As she sat in her pod in the bridge of the ship she thought back to her early life. Used as a dancer, pleasure slave. Punch bag. You name it. To look at Orlith, you would not think it, her attractive face, set in a wary facade, lips a silver sheen, black hair tied back aggressively from her face, to flow down her back, her hair held back by a headdress, spiked out, looking like her hair in a spiders grasp. To look at her at first glace, you would think her an unfriendly manipulator. But that was a shell; she had learnt to be hard in her life. But once you earned her trust, she would fight to the last to help you.
One such person had been the last person any Minmatar. It had been an Amarr. Those, which had enslaved her Race. His name was the hermit of Nehkiah. He in fact had attacked the Rats transporting her, finding her in the cargo hold. Gave her some money and set her on this path. She saw him from time to time; he was often about killing Rats. She had yet to learn his full story, as to why he helps her kind. Going against the rules of his own kind. So here she was, making money for herself. Freeing her fellow people when she could. She had met another friend she could trust; she had met him soon after she had bought her own ship. He was called xNashx. She still had yet to figure out why the x’s. Think it was there to add character. She smiled at this. So when he had started his own corporation and asked her to join. She had, owing him for helping her continue walking on the path the Hermit had set her on.
She looked up as she got a radio signal. And smiled as she saw her fellow corp member

“Greetings Eledhan. What brings you to this neck of the woods?” the radio crackled, then a deep male voice came back over the radio. The laugh making her smile.

“Hey Orlith. Just wanted to know if you were mining in your big monster?”

“Yeah, was all on me own, and yes I know your scythe can mine better.” She laughed, knowing she had beat him to what he had to say.

“You want to do some mining with me? You haul?” Orlith looked out her port camera to see Eledhan pull up alongside her. His ship half the size of hers, the shape like some strange metal art.

“Sure, why not? We need to mine some for xNashx anyway.”

“Okeli Dokeli” he replied. He always said that. She watched as Eledhan’s ship moved towards the asteroid belt of Rens. The lasers lit up parts of both Ships as they fired on the condensed Scordite Asteroid. Slowly killing the once proud rock for its ore.

“So anything new?”

“Seems like the CCP has been moving on those macroers. They been going “missing” as of late” she imagined him wiggling his eyebrows at the word missing. As his tone took on a mysterious edge.

“You love it don’t you. Thought you would be pirate killing by now” Orlith leaned back in her pod, relaxing as Eledhan Mined, filling the canister so she could take it back to the station for xNashx

“I was earlier…. got board”

“Liar, you ran out of Ammo” she could imagine the smirk on his face.

“Yeah, well there was that. But you should have seen it, blew them out of the sky, flames burning for milliseconds, explosions as my missiles hit home”

‘Yeah I know, I know. I’ve seen remember, when you were too lazy to move your loot.”

“Oh yeah.”
Orlith laughed, he really was a great fighter. She hoped to be as good as him someday. She had sat back as Eledhan had blown the out of the sky with ease. He had even had some old hull damage that he hadn’t bothered to repair. Calling it battle scars.

“Coming back to the station tonight? Get some…well reasonably good food”

“Yep, I could do with a hot meal…and beer. You’re buying”

“Fine. Anything else going on?”

“Yeah, me xNashx and Sharaka had some trouble with a new joiner.”

“Oh?”

“Yeah, said her corp wouldn’t let her go. So I got all ready to..”

“Flex your muscles, yeah, yeah, for a girl was it” he carried on ignoring her comment.

“Make him back off, but she kept changing her story. Then wanted to nick stuff from their hanger”

“That’s a bit evil. I would have just legged it, no hassle then. Don’t have a rival corp an excuse to come gunning after us”

“Good point. Anyway. Think she was trying to play both sides?”

“Probably. What have I told you about women playing the sob story in this galaxy?”

“That everyone has a sob story yeah, yeah.”

“Well, catch you at the station.” Orlith started to plot coordinates for the warp jump to Rens Butas tribe treasury. Activating the warp drive she turned back to the radio “may your teeth stay sharp..”

“And your enemies blood on your lips” Eledhan replied. And she jumped.

Home…well as home as you could be on a gigantic piece of metal floating in space. Her ship safely docked and the ore waiting to e picked up by xNashx. She waited for the bulkhead to open, knowing Eledhan had just docked. She wore he flight jacket, now free of her pod. Stretching her tired limbs, the tight leather outfit she favored keeping her warm, but not restricting her movement if it came to a fight. On the back of the jacket was her Corp symbol. The skull and crossed bones over a blue circle. Beneath it was the letters BWATG. It was a strange name for which the letters stood for, but it held a meaning behind it. And she felt sorry for whoever found out the meaning in a bad way. The letters stood for Beast With A Toothy Grin. She looked up as the door hissed open and the stale recycled air whooshed past her, moving her hair like a fresh planet breeze. There, in a big brown leather jacket stood Eledhan, a big grin slapped on his face. His baldhead shining in the harsh artificial light

“Hey Orlith.” He pulled her into a friendly hug. She was used to this now. Anyone else of the male persuasion tried it, and he would be missing something.

“Hey Eledhan, ready to get some grub”

“Okily Dokily” they walked side by side though the bustle of the station, seeing children newly free scared looks in their eyes. And old hands, helping them feel safe again. Well as safe as you could be in these times, with the Amarr banging on your hull door. They sat at a table in the Red dust bar, luckily Orlith had just done a run of live stock, so meat was on the menu tonight each got a slab of meat, and Orlith ordered some spiced wine. Eledhan went with the station home brew of beer. Orlith kept telling him she was sure it was engine coolant. But he just smiled and drank it anyway.
They were talking in friendly companionship, when Orlith whacked the smooth bit of her fork down and a hand that was trying to nick a piece of meat.

“Get your own xNashx,” she continued to eat as xNashx sat down with his workers and friends. “So how goes it boss?”

“Fine Orlith, got the Ore you sent. Thanks both of you. Well meet target soon if you two keep going on like that.”

“No problem Boss” Orlith inclined her head to him. Eledhan ordered xNashx some food, and a beer. They started messing around. She rolled her eyes. Men. She hoped Sharaka would turn up.

“Need rescuing Orlith.” She smiled

“Yes please”
Sharaka joined her friends; they drank and laughed, and talked about plans. They al retired to their ships. To wait the dawn of another day.

And so ends this little tale, come join us again, more tales as our corp grows. Become part of this universe if you wish. Farewell for now, see you among the stars.

May your teeth stay sharp, and your enemies’ blood on your lips.
