love and lifeless stars

'That's the wrong book.'
'Nah, it's the right one. There, look: A 743.'
'Yeah. It's this stupid book about Remarque. The guy had no idea about politics.'
'Oh, shush it. Remarque is the only one you can trust. All the others are just-'
'More objective and sensible?!'
'Quite the opposite.'
Rory Devon eyed the book in his hand with a frown. It had been dancing between his fingers for a couple of minutes and serval times it looked like the teenager was about to put it back, but it still was there, in his hand, his inner conflict quite annoying to him.
With a heavy sigh, trying to pry his mind off the object and think of something less complicated, he shoved it in the little libary basket he was holding and made his way to the excit.
'Argh, idiot!', screamed something inside of him when he gave the book to the receptionist, but nothing but a twitch of his eyebrow gave a hint of the argument going on inside of him.
Had somebody asked Rory what was wrong with him, the 19 year old would have had problems explaining.
'It could be schizophrenia', one part of him constantly remarked, planning to look it up somewhere, but the other part gave a shit and therefore the research never started.
It was also a fact that his second part hated books and had a very short attention span, so it was a miracale that Rory had even made it as far as University, studying Politics and Philosophy.
But come to think of it, it was amazing that he had passed Highschool in the first place.
'The main reason can be found in the structure of the human mind', Ro, the first, more sensetive and beread part, would say every time he pondered over it. 'After 19 years of being locked up in the same body you get used to each other and start making compromises.'
(The other would hmpf and mention that they were not a married couple.)
Meaning that Ry, Part number two, often decided to black out and turn down the volume of his thoughts, when it came to school. Strangely enough they both had the same knowledge, but used it (or not) according to their own personal priorities. With Ro that was mainly school, with Ry it was everything he labled as fun. It were two different parts of a life and often they split up the days and Ro had the mornings and Ry the evenings, but the presence of the other could never be completely forgotten. Ro, for exsample, had to give up smoking, because Ry claimed that he couldn't stay in the background when that disgusting taste hit his tongue. Ry on the other hand was often pressed into giving up one of his nights for Ro's studies, the latter argueing that it finally lead to a better job and more money.
The only time both parts really fought about the control over the body was when it got physical.
In Ro's understanding that was romantic.
In Ry's it was pure sex.
The biggest fight they had had though, was a few years back, when Ry found out about their homosexuality, whilst Ro was still in denial. It had also proofed that their relationship bore more than hate, when Ro, after an argument with Ry, tried to commit sucided. Since it was quite hard to stop the blood stream on one wrist, when half your body is determined to slit open the other one as well it had been a close call and brought Rory into the mental for serval months.
Only Ry's will to get out kept the teen from falling over the edge before he was claimed sane, and that longing for freedom also meant comforting Ro. They had come to terms. Sort off.
There were still some problems with masturbation though.
"Ehm, excuse me? Could I have your Id?", the girl behind the counter asked, dragging Rory out of his inner world again.
'God, she wants our adress', Ry coughed, not being a big friend of the females, brushing them off easily when bothered.
'She just wants to compare to our libarycard', Ro explained, clearly always thinking the best (least sexual) of people, for the girl did spot a deep red blush on her cheeks, not being oblivious to Rory's looks. The shiny black hair and the emerald green eyes.
"Sure, wait a moment", he said, Ry snickering inside, whilst putting his bag to the floor, behind him, them turning around and bending over to find his id inside of it and give her the best view on his backside.
'Stop being so facetious', Ro moand, but his second only giggled, something that seemed even without the actual sound quite girlish and gay.
With a big grin on his face he emerged and placed his id in front of the girl, who was red and perspiring. She took it with a shaking hand and compared the name to the one on the libary card.
"Rory Devon?", she asked and the ravenhaired nodded wordlessly, Ro trying to gain control over the situation. "27.1.88?"
Another nod and she placed his id together with his libarycard and the book into the basket.
"Thank you", she mumbled and before she could add another word Rory had stormed out of building, his body pressed against the outside wall as soon as he exited the libary.
"'God, Ry. Why do you have to be such a tease?', Ro screamed in his mind and wished slappig the other would have any other effect than people staring at him strangely.
'You gotta play the game, Ro. The libary itself is just too boring. Thought I lighten the mood.'
'You could have hurt her feelings.'
'I would like to, but you never let me.'
'You're a bastard.'
'Nice to hear you swear, brother.'
Rory pushed the book into his bag and pressed himself of the wall, his lean body emerging from the shadows it had hid in, ready for the world.
A few steady steps towards the next trainstation and Ro could hear Ry's low voice.
'You didn't like her, did you.'
Rory shook his head, a very stange gesture to everyone passing them.
'So we're still gay?'
'Yeah.'
'Right. Wanna go and grab some lunch?'
'You should know.'
'How?'
'It's your stomach too.'
'True, but I didn't want to make the desicion on my own. I try Ro, you know. Besides, I figured that you could be on a diet.'
'No. Lunch sounds good.'
'Chinese?'
'Indian.'
'Sushi?'
'Italian.'
'Mexican?'
'French.'
'Oh, fuck off!!!'
