Shades of Crimson
Claimer: This story, the idea, the characters, everything is all mine! Mine, my own, and not to be used or copied or anything without asking first!
Summary: The world we know is secretly under the control of vampires, who see other living beings as existing only for their own benefit. This is the story of a young woman who is enslaved by them, and the cruel treatment she endures.
A/N: Not a dark fic, but not a happy one either. Nor will this be a typical vampire or slave story, I’m aiming for as much realism as I can have in a ‘vampires rule the world’ story.
Warnings: Rated NC-17. M/f, slavery, NC, abuse, there will be mention of torture, probably mention of sexual situations involving minors, and other disturbing situations. Other warnings may be added depending on how closely the story actualy follows my plans when I write it.

Chapter One
“I hope you have a car crash and die on your way home!” That was what my little sister told me the last time I saw her.
“How dare you! To say something like that, after I’ve put up with a brat like you for all these years! I wish I’d let some foster family take you!” And with those words, I pulled out of the driveway, ignoring her shouted insults and went to my precious, if totally boring job, at one of the local petrol stations.
We were more best friends than sisters, so this one nasty fight we had before being torn apart really cut me up inside for a long while.
I guess the fight was my fault. Looking back now, it all seems so stupid. Her long time crush was about to move away, and going to this party would be her one last chance to see him. I guess she thought that I should have been an understanding, cool type of big sister and let her go, despite it being in a part of town, with a lot of dodgy types and probably drugs floating around. Even though she’s eighteen and a pretty responsible girl, I know our parents would have rolled in their graves if they saw me agree for her to go.
Anyway, the fight we had is actually pretty irrelevant to my story.
So, what happened was, I came home late that night, and she wasn’t there. Even though I should have known she’d go without my permission, I hadn’t expected it, and was seriously pissed about it. So I tried calling her to yell for her to come home a few times, she didn’t pick up. I was able to get through to her best friend, who could only tell me: “Oh, hi Temara! Huh? I’m sorry, I’m kinda with someone right now, [giggle giggle] so I don’t know where she is.” And she hung up.
I waited up a while for her to come home, but I was tired from work, and eventually fell asleep on the couch. In the morning I woke up at about nine, already late for work, and she still wasn’t home. I checked her room, and it wasn’t disturbed, so it wasn’t as if she could have come home and left early or something.
It was when I tried to call her cell phone that worry really began to set in. The number I had called, was either ‘switched off, or unavailable’ I was told by that irritating recorded voice. It was completely unlike Jessie to have her phone off for any reason. She never let the batteries die, and she wouldn’t switch it off no matter what she was doing. Had she been mugged or something?
The best friend, Keira, had gone home with some guy, so she couldn’t tell me where she was either. I worried all day about it at work, got moody and even snapped at one of the customers, which isn’t like me at all. Normally, I’m the genuinely friendly, anxious to help type of girl.
She wasn’t home when I got back that evening. Nobody knew where she was. The police couldn’t do anything because she hadn’t been missing long enough, and seemed to think I was being a little stupid worrying about something like this so much. Can’t say I blame them, but it turned out I had good reason to be. She didn’t come back, so by ten that night I was in quite a state.
None of her other friends had been at the party, so there was only Keira to continue harassing with my phone calls. Eventually, I was able to gain the phone numbers of a couple of people she’d been talking to at the party, but that was all.
Calling those numbers, I found out that she’d actually left the party with some unknown handsome guy! They’d been dancing together, and one of her acquaintances had seen her slip out and start walking down a side street together.
Unable to learn anything else, I was so scared of what might have happened to her, I couldn’t sleep. It got to 2am, and I was still awake, so I actually took a drive to where the party had been and looked around the side streets. I’m not sure what I had expected to gain from doing that, maybe it was fate that made me go there…I don’t know. I was so frightened I’d see some blood on the ground, or in my panicked state I even went so far as to be worried I’d find a bloodied, battered body…
I told myself I was being stupid, and that I should go home instead of wandering the dark streets of this dangerous area.
Then, on the road, right beside my shoe, I saw something shining.
It was one of Jessie’s earrings! I bent down to pick it up, then stopped. What if I smudged away a valuable fingerprint, or something?!
After a good couple of minutes spent standing there like an idiot, frozen in my mental panicking, I had the sense to take out my cell phone, meaning to dial 911 and have the police come to the scene.
There was no signal on my phone. I took a few steps this way and that, still, nothing, which was extremely unusual in a big town like this. More like completely unheard of. I was still trying to figure it out when I suddenly heard a couple of footsteps behind me. Weird, I noticed, because there was just one or two soft steps, no quiet and getting louder footsteps first as the person walked up the street behind me. I didn’t have time to think about it, or even to turn around, before I felt a tiny, tiny stinging sensation in the back of my neck. I had a few brief seconds to gaze upon the dark street around me before I felt myself falling, dizzy, as the world faded into blackness.
