The life of a Chubbster: Bethany Jacobson
Title: Neighborly feelings
Summary: Being the shy chubby girl all her life, she never expected love.
Beth huffed as she brought the last box in the house. As she put the box on a chair, she mulled over the events that transpired over the last few days. She had gotten the top secretarial job surprisingly at a very well-known firm, Avanti, at least throughout Italy. She couldn't believe she was going to be working with Cillian Greco, the heir to the whole business. His father was still working in Italy, their main office, while he sent his son to look over their firm in the U.S.
'I don't know how I got the job,' she thought as she recalled how she fell as soon as she stepped into the interview room, stammered, and kept looking down. Besides having been able to get a job, she rented a huge house and moved everything she had in her dingy apartment to her new place. It was a three bedroom with one spacious bathroom, with small nooks in the wall here and there, and a quaint veranda in the front. The master bedroom had a small balcony overlooking the neighborhood. The only reason she was able to afford it was the elderly Masons lowered the rent down. Which was obvious when you looked at the house. The fading light brown on the house needed to be repainted, the carpet was stained beyond repair, and the kitchen needed new cupboards. Not to mention all the weeds out front and a broken bathroom door.
As she wiped her hands on a small towel, someone knocked at the front door. As she opened it, the door made a loud squeak. 'I'll have to fix that too.' She grimaced as she looked up to see who it was.
"Hello, welcome to the neighborhood! My husband and I noticed a moving truck outside and ol' Alfred just had to see the new neighbor. Didn't you, Alfred?" The elderly woman nudged the man beside her while smiling at Beth. The old man replied in mumbles of 'woman' 'nosy' and 'she always does this'.
"Anyhoooo, we just came to drop by some chocolate cookies as a welcoming present. Oh my where are my manners, please let me introduce ourselves. I'm Angie Casley and this here is my husband, Alfred Casely." She leaned in with a conspiratorial wink, "Though he may not look it, he's very glad to meet you. He just has a hard time showing it." She paused and looked and me patiently.
"Oh, sorry my name is Bethany Jacobson and I'm very pleased to meet both of you." I replied quietly while shaking their hands in turn.
"Why, what a name, Bethany. I have always loved that name ever since when I was a litt-" Her talk was cut short when Alfred interrupted.
"I'm terribly sorry my dear, but if I let her continue we'll be here till sunset. It was very lovely to meet you, hope to see you around our place next time,eh? Meanwhile we have an appointment at our kitchen table where I'll be drinking tea, and my wife and her friends will be talking about you. Adieu." The old man replied in a faint English accent and smiled gently before walking across the street. All the way there you could see Angie talking rapidly to Alfred while pointing at Bethany with a embarrassed expression.
While laughing lightly she went in her house and grabbed her bag and keys and went to her car. As she started to back out she made a mental checklist of things to do: meet Michelle up at the local cafe, go checkout the small bookstore for new arrivals. 'Life doesn't get any better than this. Well at least not for me that is.'
