Chapter one
He breathed a sigh across the nape of her neck, sending a shiver down
her spine. She moaned as he caressed her arms grazing her breasts,
making her squirm as he ran his hands across her torso skimming her
nipples as he did. Leaning back, her muscles clenched as he pressed
his hardness against her, she reached around and felt him straining
to break free from the material that is imprisoning him. He gasped as
she slipped her fingers down past the waist band and gently teased
the tip of him. He softly bit her neck making her quiver in delight.
“Oh Alex, we shouldn’t”
He spun her to face him pressing her against the cold dark stone
crushing her mouth with a passionate kiss, a kiss that could have
lasted forever. At that moment time stood still.
He awoke to the sound of sirens. No chance to dwell upon the dreams
which he was now having increasingly. He was needed, and any
Dragonsbane worth his salt heeded the dragon call. The smell of smoke
was heavy in the air. He rushed to dress his well muscled but lean
form in the red glow that was a sure sign that the dragons had set
the outpost alight again.
“That was nearly a disaster “
Alex turned to the lean young man with dark hair and eyes that had
lost their sparkle; everyone was like that these days, underfed and
without hope.
“At least we have scared them off and the fires under control” Alex
replied
“For now, they’ve only gone to lick their wounds, what shall we do
when they come back? Our men are dying at an alarming rate”
Alex looked at the ruins around him. Glennford, it wasn’t much but
it was home, for now. It was the furthest outpost from Merrytown
(and wasn’t that name a joke these days) so it was the target for
many of the dragon attacks that had been raging for over a thousand
years since the Dragonwars began. He had heard stories that the town
once lived up to its name, with rolling green pastures surrounding
the bustling town centre, they told of clean streets and houses
with gardens overbrimming with cultivated flowers. Its hard to
imagine now all that’s left is charred buildings and a layer of soot
over everything and every one, the stream was now smoky grey and the
fields were barren half of which were now used to bury those who’s
lives were claimed during the wars. He realised that some of the
stories must be true, at least the population must have been larger,
over two thirds of the buildings were now abandoned or named as
deceased estates. So many lives wasted and for what? At this rate
mankind would soon be extinct.
“Hey nice fashion statement, so is that the new trend then?”
Alex was roused from his contemplation, realising that he was being
spoken to
“Hey Mack, wha…?” Alex noticed Mack was looking him over with an
amused look Shit!
His pants were inside out and his shirt buttoned crooked.
“In a bit of a rush mate?”
“I was catching a bit of shut eye when the sirens sounded”
“Still having those dreams? Alex nodded Have you visited the seer yet”
“I went yesterday but she said her vision was blank, whatever that
means” Alex felt his stomach grumble “well I’m off, going to see
what hunting party found for dinner” he walked down the narrow
passage, the dark stone dimly lit by flickering gas lanterns
moonlight shining thru the gaps in the walls where the stone had
began to crumble. The place was falling apart around them but
they had nether the time or the energy to make repairs, everybody
was needed in this damn war!
Alex! A young boy ran up to him, looking dishevelled and out of
breath. “Alex the MASTER? Needs to see you,”
Can it wait I’m starving Alex replied grumpily
I supposed the boy said uncertainly but he said he had good news
Alex smiled and ruffled the boy’s hair well we all need good news
these days Alex said feeling LIGHTER then he had in months can you
fetch me some dinner and meet me in his quarters?
There was the strong odour of sulpher Emitting from the MASTERS quarters.
Alex gave the wooden door a sharp rap and entered without waiting
to be summoned. A wizened man lay within ravaged by time the healers
had not much hope for him, stating that he had a few months no more,
his desire for revenge the only thing keeping him alive now.
Many years ago a dragon ate his entire family as well as his legs,
leaving the master barely alive and with a major grudge.
“I have it my boy! I really have it!” he’s blue eyes sparkling with
excitement. Alex had not seen him like this for years.
“Calm down old man you know the healers don’t want you getting
agitated” Alex was concerned for his health. , as one would be
for his father. Not that Sir barry Would recognise him as such, he was but
a mere bastard. “What has got you so worked up?”
“I told you, you silly boy, I’VE GOT IT!” he shoved his scroll
into Alex’s hands. Alex was bewildered he had never been allowed to
look at his fathers Works, as far as he knew no one had. He turned his gaze to
the scroll he now held gingerly, at first it looked like mere
scribbles but on further examination he could see some sort of
formula, he noted the word dragon, but could figure no more then
that.
I’m sorry,” he stuttered embarrassed, why was it that this man
could always make him feel like a fool when no other could, “I don’t
understand it”
The old man took the scroll from him in disgust, “it is how we’re
going to kill them all, the whole bloody lot of them!”
“The dragons?” Alex inquired. Barry smiled “yes my boy, the dragons!
Let me explain how this will work”
