The seventh child

Prologue

A very long time ago, a prophecy was written out and it in was written words that would change the lives of an entire clan. No one remembers when it was given or happened only that is was and has been in their possession for generations. On an old piece of parchment are the words written:

The seventh child born of each generation shall be blessed with
Abilities that will shall be of the earth
They shall bear seven children
The seventh child shall also be blessed with abilities given
By the earth
In the seventh generation of the seventh child
That child shall be blessed and cursed
That child will know all that the earth can give
At birth and that child shall be powerful
This power shall be tested from the sides of light and dark
It will be this child that will shine bright or descend into darkness
It will be the final child of seven children

And so it was that each generation had seven children; each male and each strong in mind, body and power but it wasn’t until the seventh generation and the birth of the seventh child that did the wind stop and a terrible quake came upon the land. The clouds darkened the skies and rain poured its tears onto the land, the land groaned and trembled as the sounds of a woman screaming filled the castle walls.
The six male children of each generation stood outside the door and waited with anxious breath and worried expressions, they could all feel the pain that tore through the earth and sky as the woman behind the door struggle with labor. Lighting struck a tree splitting in half and leaving it bare, the sound of the thunder was tremendous as it roared shaking windows and making the earth tremble more. Then all became silent and it was deafening until the cry of a child rang out and all was at peace once again. The earth stopped trembling, the clouds began to part and bits of sun touched the earth in a soothing caress.

As one they all relaxed and waited, they all wanted to hold the child of prophecy and know that each had played is part. The door creaked open and the midwife let half her face be seen, her eyes held fear and concern. The eldest of them all pulled the door open and the women stumbled out with a bundle of cloth, a child’s face could be seen. It was the face of an innocent babe resting, the men rose to their full heights in pride until the midwife spoke, her voice was low and shaky.

“It is a girl, my lords.”

They all gapped at the small infant who had opened her eyes and stared at each, her eyes were as gray as steel and held more knowledge storming behind them then any could fathom. The babe held her small hand out and giggled in the only way that a baby can. Her father came forward and took her in his hand, her little hand wrapped around his finger and an intense love passed between them.

“A girl, our clan has been blessed with a girl.” There was so much pride in his voice that all could feel it.

Looking down at her again he smiled and she cooed at him, all were entranced by her ands stood around her in a circle. They each felt an enormous need to protect her tear through them and each land a gentle hand on her small body, she giggled and cooed in baby talk and each only smiled.

“Tis a fine day.” The eldest said looking at his grand son.

“Aye granddad it is, the prophecy of old has been fulfilled. She is the last of us all and the hope for the rest of the world.” His eyes spoke volumes as he watched her.

She stretched under the blanket and snuggled closer to his warmth, her eyes slowly closed and sleep made her more angelic
