ONWARD!
A long sigh escaped rosy, parted lips. Math was a boring class as it was without a substitute teacher who’s voice was so monotone that even the best students in class were falling asleep to it. Add to that the fact that math was the last class of the day keeping you from a full week camping with your boyfriend and anyone in their right mind would have gone insane. Pencils tapping, gum being popped, and paper being ripped were the only noises in the classroom you could hear besides that teacher’s voice.
The bell rang and every single student in the class jumped up and was out of the room before another word could be said. People were running through the halls to get to their cars and get to whatever they were doing for their spring break. The seniors were throwing their yearly party during it. They always through the senior spring break party in which only seniors were allowed and if someone wasn’t drunk it would be a miracle.
“Hey there sugah.” someone wrapped their arms around Laraine’s waist. “You ready?”
Laraine turned and smiled up at the man. “I hope you don’t think I’m going to have sex with you over this weekend Benjamin.”
Ben smiled, showing his dazzling white teeth. “Sugah it’d be illegal for me to sleep with you, even if you did want it.”
To spite Ben’s outward appearance he was really caring. When Ben had been in high school he had done a lot of things that had gotten him in a lot of trouble. Mostly just because of how he looked. Ben’s hair was black and his bangs hung over his left eye, which was blue while the other eye was green. He had seven piercings in his left ear, five in his right, his left eyebrow, right side of his lip, his tongue, his navel, and his right nipple. He wore all black clothes which meant he usually had baggy black pants, a tighter black shirt, jelly bracelets of every color on each hand, and even his cell phone was black.
“Did I say I didn’t want it Benjamin?” Laraine asked him as they walked to Ben’s car. “I don’t believe I did.”
Not one of either of the two’s friends thought that they should be dating. Laraine had blonde hair that was layered from ear to shoulder length and eyes that were deep sea green. There was not one piercing on that slim body and Laraine’s basic wardrobe was that of blue jeans and slightly baggy button-up shirts. Not once had Laraine ever been in trouble with the school and the only bracelet worn was one Laraine had gotten as a Christmas present from Ben.
Ben opened the door for Laraine. “Lain, hon, you’re gonna be the death of me someday.”
“Lain!” came a shrill, female voice. Both Laraine and Ben shuddered at the voice but turned around. Laraine giving Cathy a warm smile and Ben glaring at her with eyes of death. “Lain you will never guess what I am doing this spring break!”
“I can only guess you are going to the senior party since you are a senior Cathy.” Laraine told her hoping he was right so she would go away.
Cathy shook her head and Laraine’s stomach dropped. “Jess just invited me to go camping with you guys!”
Ben laughed unbelievably. “Jess huh? She’s such a little tramp.”
Laraine elbowed Ben and gave him a look of death before smiling back at Cathy. “That is wonderful. I’m sure we’ll have a great time. All of us together.”
“Alone for a week.” Ben added and smirked feeling Laraine shiver.
“I know!” Cathy’s already shrill voice got higher in her excitement. “So I am going to come up with Jess later since I have to pack my things. I will see you both then.” she went to leave and the other two about sighed in relief but she turned around again. “Who else is coming?”
Ben thought a moment. “Jess, you, Lain, Ryan, Cynthia, Michael, Conner, and me.”
Laraine groaned. “Why don’t you call him William instead of Conner for a change? He has a first name you know.”
“I know. I just like to watch him squirm when I call him Conner.” Ben told him. “Now get your ass in the car.”
“See you Cathy.” Laraine said quickly and slid into the car. When Ben slid in he watched Cathy walk away. “This should be a fun week.”
A cynical laugh came from Ben. “Yeah, considering Jess has been dying to get into Cathy’s pants I am sure that it will be just a wonderful weekend.” Laraine leaned across the seat and gave Ben a soft kiss. “Mmm,” Ben sighed and held the back of Laraine’s head so he could continue the kiss. “How long till you’re eighteen sugah?”
Laraine slid an arm up to Ben’s shoulder and leaned into the kiss. “Year and two months.”
“Shit.” Ben sighed and Laraine pulled away to sit back in the seat. “Well, it’s a long weekend.”
“Shut it Benjamin.” Laraine threatened though a smile graced that pale face. “You can go out and date someone your own age if you want to get some that bad.”
Ben laughed. “Sugah there is only one thing I want that bad.”
Laraine’s smile grew. “And what is that Benjamin?”
“Rated ‘M’ for mature sugah.” Ben shot back and started his car. “Now lets go get your shit and get up to the camp.”
When they pulled up to Laraine’s house there was no other car in the driveway. They walked into the house and up to Laraine’s room so they could grab the ten bags Ben knew there would be and get on their way. However, when they got to Laraine’s room Ben closed the door and pulled Laraine to him. Their mouths met and Ben slid his arms around Laraine’s slim waist as smaller arms wrapped around his neck.
Ben kissed down to Laraine’s neck and hands tangled in his hair. “Benjamin...” Laraine muttered. “Stop it.”
Ben pulled away and looked down into those green eyes. “What’s up sugah?”
“Benjamin the last thing I want to do is show up at camp with a hickey because I know what everyone there will do.” Ben hated when Laraine made points. “Now help me grab my things.”
“How about I give you a hickey where no one else could see?” Ben offered.
Laraine glared at him with a smirk on his lips. “Or you can just wait until later tonight.”
With a roll of his eyes Ben grabbed one of the two bags. “Sugah I’ve been waiting for nearly four months, I don’t think I can take a few more hours.”
“Well that’s too bad then cause you’re gonna have to wait a year more before you can do anything to me.”
The drive to the camp site was filled with Laraine laughing at stupid things Ben said. Ben had been out of high school for nearly two years, which kind of creped out their friends since that meant Laraine had been a freshman when Ben had been a senior. The age difference was four years, since Ben had moved over to their school his sophomore year and had to start out as a freshman, and that creped their friends out the most. Of course their parent’s didn’t know. Well, Ben’s parents probably knew since they always hung out there but Laraine’s mom just thought they were friends. Laraine’s mom would have died before letting Laraine go out with someone who could legally drink.
They had met at a dance during Laraine’s sophomore year because Jess had drug Ben to it. Laraine had met up with Jess while Ben had been in the bathroom and began talking to her. When Ben came back the two were introduced and hit it off really well, Laraine immediately developing a crush on Ben. Though, it wasn’t until a year later, during that same January dance, that Ben had asked Laraine out. That had been four months prior and both of them were fully happy that they were finally together.
“So, has that Kyle kid been bugging you lately?” Ben asked as he turned onto the gravel road that led to the camp site. “He should be a senior now.”
Laraine sighed. “Kyle’s just an asshole. I don’t think I’ve ever been called a dirty slut more times in my life.” a smile came to Laraine’s face again. “I don’t think I have ever been called a dirty slut actually.”
“Oh but you are.” Ben joked. “You’re my dirty little slut.”
They pulled up to the camp site to see all the others already there and set up. It took Ben and Laraine about fifteen minutes to set up their camp site all the way and then they sat down at the fire with all the others. They sat by each other in their chairs and Ben looked across the fire at Jess. Jess was sitting next to Cathy but she was at least a foot away from her. It made Ben smiled considering that had been him with Laraine for nearly a year.
“Ben?” Laraine whispered and Ben leaned over to hear better. “Do something.”
Ben rolled his eyes. “So, Jess.” the girl looked up at him. “I haven’t talked to you in a while. There any new romances in your life?”
“Benjamin shut the fuck up.” Jess hissed at him.
“My name’s not Benjamin you whore.” Ben snapped at her.
“Oh, that’s right, only your gay little lover can call you that.” Jess shot back.
Ben laughed. “Stop trying to insult me with the gay shit you lesbo.”
Laraine’s eyes widened and he hit Ben’s shoulder. “Benjamin!”
“Don’t call me that Laraine.” Ben hissed at Laraine making the younger guy’s eyes widen. “I’m going for a walk.”
“Ben-“ Laraine tried.
“Leave me alone.”
For a moment everything was silent and Laraine sat there staring at the fire. “Lain?” Cathy asked him softly. “Are you okay?”
Laraine nodded softly. “I’m fine.” he looked up at Jess. “It was a simple question Jess. Why get so worked up over it?” with that he stood and walked back towards his tent.
Around a half hour later, while Laraine was laying there reading a book, the tent door slid open and Ben entered. Laraine barely glanced at him and did not acknowledge Ben’s presence at all. Ben crawled over and sat next to Laraine trying to think. Laraine set the book down and turned so his back was facing Ben.
“Lain, sugah, I’m sorry.” Ben apologized. “I snapped at you for no reason and I am sorry for that. You know Jess gets under my skin easy and I did not mean to take that anger out on you.” Laraine didn’t reply. “Sugah talk to me.”
Laraine turned so was on his back again and he looked up at Ben. “It’s been a long time since I heard you call me my name.”
Ben smiled. “It’s been a long time since I’ve said it.”
“I don’t like my name either Ben.”
The older guy leaned down and kissed his saddened boyfriend. “Call me Benjamin.”
That made Laraine smile and Ben kissed him again. “Now go apologize to Jess, Benjamin.”
“What!?” Ben snapped. “No way in hell.”
“Benjamin you will go apologize to her or you are not going to get the surprise I have for you later on.” Laraine bargained.
Ben groaned. “Fine,” he stood and pulled on his coat. “But it better be a damn good surprise sugah.”
Laraine nodded. “I think you’ll like it.”
At around nine that night Ben slid back into the tent and Laraine put his book and flashlight down to smile at his boyfriend. Ben slid down next to Laraine and pulled him against his body kissing him hard. Laraine wrapped his arms around Ben as the older man kissed him savagely. They had kissed like this a few times before. Those few times had been when Laraine had spent the night at Ben’s house and things had gotten a little to heated.
“Benjamin.” Laraine gasped and tilted his head back as Ben kissed down to his neck and began to suck. “Benjamin you are going to give me a hickey.”
“That was my intention.” Ben whispered and continued to suck at Laraine’s neck.
Laraine gasped as Ben pushed him back and he gripped at the back of Ben’s shirt as he tilted his head back. “Benjamin...”
Ben slid a hand into Laraine’s shirt and smoothed it over his soft stomach. “You’re to damn sexy for your own good sugah.”
“Ben! Lain!” Ryan yelled and the two pulled apart, staring at each other lustfully. “You two get your assess out here and join the party!” Ben leaned down and continued to kiss Laraine hard on the mouth, his tongue sliding into that warm cavern. “I swear to god you two-“ he opened the tent door and the two broke away quickly. “Shit you could have told me to fuck off.”
The older of the two glared at Ryan from where he lay halfway over Laraine. “Ryan, if you are done staring, would you go away?”
“Oh but it turns me on so much to see you eat at your boyfriends face.” Ryan joked and left the tent.
When Ben looked back down at Laraine the boy smiled up at him shyly. “Maybe we should go out and see them.”
A groan left Ben. “Sugah don’t you dare.” he kissed Laraine softly. “How about we pretend Ryan never interrupted us? Just rewind to two minutes ago when you weren’t being shy.”
That made Laraine laugh. “Come on Ben. We came here to hang out and spend our spring break with them.”
“No, I invited you up here so that I wouldn’t have to hang out with them and could spend a week alone with you trying to get you to sleep with me.” Ben argued.
“Well thank you.” Laraine laughed. “I am so happy you invited me up here just so you could try and get into my pants.”
Ben ran a finger along the hem of Laraine’s pants. “Well, whether I get into them or they come off will work for me.”
Laraine hit Ben’s shoulder and got up. “I am going out to the fire. You can come out if you want to.”
“You haven’t given me my surprise yet sugah.” Ben told him.
The guy smiled and sat down by Ben. “Close your eyes.” he instructed and Ben did so. Laraine pulled something out of his pocket and grabbed Ben’s hand. “I want you to have this.” he slid a ring on Ben’s finger. “Open your eyes.”
Ben opened his eyes and looked at the ring. “Lain?”
Laraine blushed. “It’s was my father’s ring. He gave it to me before he got on the plane. He told me that it was my job to look after it while he was away and that when he came home he’d be expecting it in perfect condition.” Laraine took a deep breath. “I asked my mother if she wanted it back but she told me to keep it.”
“Lain I can’t accept something like this.” Ben told him. “This is way to important to you."
“Let me finish.” Laraine muttered and took a deep breath, clearly trying to hold back the tears. “My mom...she told me to keep it and...” he looked at the ground and tears fell from his eyes. “And it give it to the person I love...”
That was a slap in the face if Ben had ever had one. He sat there for a moment completely not knowing what to do. “Lain...”
The boy shook his head and looked up at Ben. “I’m not saying I love you yet Benjamin. I’m saying I want to, eventually.” he smiled softly and lowered his head again. “Please say something.”
“Lain I don’t know what to say.” Ben admitted. “I...I want to fall in love with you also.”
Laraine’s head shot up and he looked at Ben. “Benjamin...don’t lie to me Benjamin.”
“I’m not lying to you sugah.” Ben pulled Laraine over and held him close, kissing the top of his head. “Never would I lie to you.”
“Ben! Lain!” came Cathy’s voice. “Get out here now! You two are missing all the fun!”
That made Ben smirk. “Trust me we are having way more fun in here!” he yelled back.
“Benjamin!” Laraine hissed. “Stop giving them the wrong ideas.”
The next morning Ben awoke and groaned at the sun that was in his eyes. He looked over and smiled seeing Laraine curled up at his side. Truth be told Laraine had been the first good thing to come into Ben’s life in a real long time. In fact Ben had been lucky to meet Laraine when he had considering Ben had been on a real wonderful road towards jail. Laraine, or maybe the fact that he didn’t want to hurt Laraine, had kept him from thrashing the shit out of some guys who had pissed him off.
Laraine yawned and blinked his eyes a few times before looking up at Ben. “Morning sugah.” Ben smiled. “Sleep well?”
“Mmhmm.” Laraine nodded and yawned again. “And you?”
“Ah!” came Cathy’s voice and Ben and Laraine sat strait up. “Oh my god! Oh my god William!”
Everyone ran over to where Cathy was screaming from. When they got to the edge of the river Laraine turned into Ben seeing their friends mutilated form laying there half submerged in the chilly morning water. Ben held Laraine close as he tried to keep his stomach down.
“Oh my god...” Cathy sobbed and Jess hugged her. “Oh my god what did this?”
Ryan was standing there with a hand over his mouth. “Could an animal have done this?”
Michael shook his head. “There aren’t animals who could do this up in these mountains. No bear or cougar...nothing.”
“Then what the fuck did this?” Jess screamed at them. “What in the fuck out here did this?”
“Another person.” Ryan was shaking terribly. “Someone did this to him.”
Michael wrapped an arm around Ryan and sort of tugged. “Come on. We need to get out of here and call the cops.”
Ben kissed the top of Laraine’s head. “Lets go sugah.”
On their way home Ben held Laraine’s hand with his between the seats. Laraine’s hand was trembling and he had not said a word the entire time. Ben brought Laraine’s hand up and gave it a small kiss. When they passed Ben’s street Laraine’s grip on his hand tightened.
“Lain?” Ben asked him.
“Don’t take me home Benjamin.” Laraine barely whispered. “Don’t leave me alone.”
Ben nodded and turned his car around. “Alright. We’ll go to my place.”
When they pulled into the apartments Laraine got out of the car and waited for Ben before walking up to the second story. Ben had lived by himself since he turned eighteen, since his family wasn’t the best in the world, and so they spent most of their time at Ben’s place. Ben locked the door behind them and then went to make sure that everything else was locked and that everything in the apartment was okay.
Laraine sat down on the couch and hugged himself. Ryan, Michael, Cathy, and Jess had gone to the police but Laraine couldn’t take it. He couldn’t have done it if he tried. “Sugah?” Ben asked sitting next to him and wrapping an arm around his shoulders. “Lain talk to me.”
It was then that Laraine began to sob. “See...seeing him...laying there...” he leaned against Ben. “It brought back...so many bad memories...”
“Oh god.” Ben held him close and closed his eyes. “Sugah everything is going to be okay. The police are going to handle it.”
The sobs continued, wetting the front of Ben’s shirt slightly. “I don’t understand...I don’t understand why someone would...would do this.”
“Neither do I Lain.” Ben kissed the top of his forehead. “Neither do I.”
Later that night the two sat on the couch watching a movie snuggled together under a blanket. Ben had his arm around Laraine’s waist holding him close in a possessive manner. Laraine hadn’t had to call his mom since she thought he was camping but he knew that not calling her would eventually come back and bite him in the ass. However he was fully willing to take whatever punishments his mom threw at him just so he could sit in Ben’s arms for a while.
“Sugah are you getting tired?” Ben asked him softly seeing it was nearly midnight.
“No.” Laraine whispered. “Benjamin?”
Ben brushed some of Laraine’s hair from his face. “What is it sugah?”
Laraine looked up at Ben and they kissed softly. “Will you make love to me Benjamin?”
That one sort of startled Ben and he pulled back to look at Laraine. “Lain...are you okay?”
“Benjamin I...” Laraine started and then sat up so he could try and think. “Benjamin I don’t want to waste another moment of my life because...because I don’t know when it will be over...” he looked back at Ben. “I don’t want to die without knowing what it was like to be with you.”
Ben leaned over to Laraine and kissed him softly. “Sugah we have the rest of our lives. You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.”
“And how long is the rest of my life Benjamin? How long is the rest of your life?” Laraine argued. “Benjamin please...” he begged. “Please, I need this.”
Ben felt his heart about cave in. He kissed Laraine softly and gave him a small smile. “Lets go to the bedroom sugah.”
