Dangerous Stranger

Chapter 1

Nights Like This

As the sky turns a deep shade of evening blue, and darkness creeps over the streets she would appear. Bright fluorescent colors decorate the cityscape and the nightlife becomes live. Cars speed down the avenue blaring music; the base is loud and booming. She loves to come out into these nights to lose her self in the action. The activity alone put her on a natural high. Usually, you can find her in the clubs, where the techno beats shake the walls. The place is so full of energy that the people in the space feel like they could never sleep.

The center of attention and the life of the party, Evana was loved by all. A pure expert in the art of seduction, she attracted men from tables secluded in corners or from across the dance floor. Loving the vivid conversation they brought. At the end of the night when the clubs where all closed, she sat on the roof of her apartment building staring at the amazing view, thinking. However, she never saw the sun.

Morning, Evana never saw morning as she saw the darkness. Daybreak brought on a world of confusion and flaring tempers. From the blaring alarm clock, to the cold shower, to the frustrating drive to the office, it never was the same.

“Good Morning, Evana.” Her secretary greeted with a beaming smile.

“Yea, sure it is..” she gave a sad half smile, thinking of the dent in the side of her car, the nice large spot of coffee on her new white blouse, and the meeting that she was to attend in 10 minutes, yeah… what a wonderful morning. Rebecca, her right hand, followed Evana as she speed walked through the halls, turning corners until she reached her office. All the while, Rebecca read to her the messages that she had received before she came through the door.

“…and lastly,” Rebecca read from her agenda, “A Mr. Collin called, asked for me to remind you of the dinner date you have set for today at nine.” She smiled then looking up in time to catch the look on Evana’s face.

Oh, I almost forgot about that….

Evana was pulled from her thoughts by the sound of Rebecca clearing her throat. “What?”

“… So, who is Mr. Collin?”

“He is..” Evana caught a glance at the clock above the door. “oh, shit.” She looked down; touching the stain on her shirt from the coffee spill on her drive to work. “I need a blouse before this meeting.” Rebecca blinked at the sudden change of subject. “I promise to tell you about him later,” Evana stood behind her desk, organizing papers for her presentation. “But right now I need you to find me a spotless shirt. I have 6 minutes… so hurry please.”

“Okay, but don’t think I won’t remind you to tell me.”

“Of course, Beck… but really… hurry up!” she made a shooing motion for Rebecca to put a move on it.

“Alright, Okay.” Rebecca rushed out of the office, leaving Evana alone to go over her notes quickly. Five minutes later Rebecca returned with the blouse and Evana changed and gathered her material in time to get to the board meeting. She was to present a new style of using the advertisements in the company magazine, The Flow. This new way of arranging the ads made it easier for the reader to pay more attention to the actual articles in the magazine instead of being swamped with cigarette smoking models, or dietary supplement before and after pictures. When the meeting was over she decided to go back to her office to edit a few articles before lunch. She was in the middle of revising an piece about ‘Fad Diets’ when Rebecca walked in, closing the door behind her and taking a seat in one of the two chairs that sat in front of her desk.

“Now… about this Collin character…” Evana smiled to herself, remembering the night before. “Tell me his stats…” Rebecca sat patiently waiting.

“Well, First off his name is…”

Flashback

“Donavan, Donavan Collin” He introduced himself with a warm smile. The radiance of his eyes, enhanced by the strobe lights of the nightclub appropriately named Hyper. “And you are?” he asked leading her to a table to talk after he approached her by the bar. She was watching the crowd of sweaty, excited dancers seducing their partners and moving, moving to the music. He politely helped her step onto the platform where a table sat secluded in a romantic aura.

“Evana Loken” she gave a sweet smirk, surprised to see him blush as she stared at his beautiful form. His exotic green eyes and shoulder length hair that fell in lose natural curls. His body was definitely toned; she noted this as she admired the black button up shirt that fit him perfectly, with the casual khaki pant clad legs.

“I’ve seen you here many times before, but I have never worked up the nerve to talk to you, until tonight.” He motioned for the waitress to bring their drinks to their new location.

“What makes tonight so different?” She coyly smirked taking a sip from her vodka and lime.

He raised an amused eyebrow, “Because tonight, the moon is full.”

End Flashback

“The moon is full?” Rebecca gave a confused look, tilting her head to the side. “What the hell does that have to do with…”

“It was cute, I had never heard that line before” She shock her head smiling again. “Anyway we ended up talking until they kicked us out the club and then he hailed a cab for us and dropped me off at home…” she blinked in the memory. “He kissed my hand, Beck. When is the last time a man has kissed your hand.” Evana looked down at the back of her hand as if she could visually see the kiss.

“Look at you,” Beck sat back in her chair from the forward leaning position she had taken to listen to Eva. “Your all smitten. You usually do this to men, not the other way around.”

“I know… but” she turned to stare at the clock on her computer. “I have to meet him at this Italian restaurant that he was telling me about last night. I should leave now so that I make it on time.” Evana started to straighten her desk.

“Are you coming back” Beck asked, standing and ironing the wrinkles in her skirt with her hands.

“Probably not, “ She continued to organize everything so that she could find it tomorrow then, turning to shut down her computer after saving her work.

“Oh?” Her friend questioned suggestively.

Evana whirled around to see the look that accompanied the question. “Your horrible.” She then stood and grabbed her brief case and coat from the coat rack by the door. “I’m going to try to catch up on some sleep.” She winked as she left the room. It was true, she needed the rest, she had 10 articles to edit and revise also she had the web page to update and interviews to dictate. Her mind arranged these activities in order.

But not before I have some fun…
