Where the Night Meets the Day

Where the night meets the day

I don’t know why my father kept this journal from me. He knows I love my uncle. I was only 6 when he “disappeared” but I wanted answers, even if they were little white lies.

“I straddle his hips and grab the bottle off of him. I pour a nice big dab of lotion into my hand and wrap that hand around Mika’s painfully hard member. I take my time rubbing the lotion on him dragging out the motions just for him. I just love the way he groans.”

Ok, so it’s not exactly fit for a 6 year old. But they could’ve told me about it since then. It’s been 15 years since he\'s been gone. They didn’t have to wait til I was 21 to let me know the truth. I could’ve handled it at 14, maybe even 12. But no one could’ve prepared me for this. I had to sit down and take all this in. It’s becoming too much for me.

I decide to sit and have a latte at my favorite café. Although I’m not used to going at this time. I’m usually here first thing in the morning, trying to wake myself up for class. I got my favorite seat on the patio. I had to read this some more.

“I exploded as his teeth broke skin and tried to calm down before I was made even weaker. I felt his dick still pumping into me as he started to draw my blood out. Within seconds his cum splattered my insides and he stopped sucking to catch his breath. “Ok love?” He spat out with blood drenched lips. But he didn’t wait for an answer. He pulled out and picked up sucking at my neck again.

It started to become all a blur, the room, the bed, my lover. My life began flashing before my eyes and I knew I was close.”

“Um…sorry to interrupt…”

I look up into the most beautiful crystal blue eyes I’ve ever seen.

“My name’s Josef but you can call me Joe,” he says pointing to the embroidery on his polo shirt. “What can I get for you?”

He flashed me the most dazzling pearly white smile. I was dumbstruck. I froze in place. He was so breathtaking. Black choppy hair, short in the back, long in the front, and brushed to the right. Great bone structure and high cheekbones. And a Monroe piercing above those full lips.

“Is there something I could get for you?”

I snapped out of my trance and felt my face flush. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to stare.” I was relieved when I saw his cheeks turn pink and his smile turn from dazzling to sheepish. I was the one to break the silence this time.

“I’d like a tall caramel latte, please.”

“OK, I’ll be right back.”

Josef. An exotic man, just like uncle Aidan’s lover. I go back to reading up on my uncle’s actions. Mikhail Yevgheni Kostya was his name. Not Russian, Ukranian. I just can’t believe my uncle fell in love with a vampire, and became a vampire.

It was hard to believe but he never did tell a lie. He wasn’t a journalist, he was a writer. And he was always brutally honest from what I remember and what my dad has told me.

“A vampire?” I didn’t realize I said it out loud.

“What’s that about vampires?” Joe asked as he set down my latte. I don’t know what provoked me. He just had a familiar presence and it felt right talking to him about it, almost like he’d understand.

“You’ll probably think I’m crazy, but…I just found out my uncle was a vampire.”

His eyes began to widen and I started to think maybe it wasn’t such a good idea to say this. “Really?” I was waiting for him to start laughing in my face, but he didn’t. “That’s weird. I’ve heard my great great grandfather was a vampire.”

I rolled my eyes. “Yea, very funny. You could’ve just laughed at me, and saved me the humiliation of coming down to my level.”

“I’m not kidding,” he said sternly. “I’m serious.” He looks around to quickly survey the patio. “Is that all you’re gonna have?”

I look at him strangely. “Yea, why?”

“Well, pay me now for that and I’ll take my break early, so we can talk.”

I smiled and I’m sure my eyes lit up as well. “Yes, I’d like that.”

He smiled that beautiful full smile as he searched his apron for the check. “I don’t mean to rush you.”

“That’s ok, I don’t mind.”

He pulled out a slip of paper and handed it to me. “If you could pay me now, I could get the change for you and just take my break.”

“Okay.” My check was a nice even $4.50. I handed him about 7 or 8 bucks and he smiled again. “I’ll be right back with the change.”

“No, it’s not necessary.”

“Well, if only all my customers tipped like you.” He smiles back at me as he starts to walk away. He practically ran through the café. I try not to jump to my feet and throw my arms up victoriously. No, I have to play it cool. I have to be calm and collected. No matter how much I want to bust out of my skin, I won’t.

He walks back out of the café sans apron. He looks even more stunning than before. He’s fixed his hair. What was once wild and untamed, look more manageable and clean-cut. I think he ran a little bit more gel through it too.

He sits down opposite me and smiles as he stares me down. “So, what’s your name?” He asks.

“Sheamus.”

“A bit Irish aren’t ya?”

I smile sheepishly and look down at the table. I don’t really flirt well. Especially not with someone so attractive. He pulls out a pack of smokes, removes one of the cigarettes, and places it so casually between his pillowy lips. “What’s in the notebook?” He takes a lighter, found in the half empty pack, and begins to light the cigarette hanging from his lips.

“It’s my uncle’s journal. He was a writer and was gonna turn this into a novel. And he wanted to keep it all real, even tho his editor wanted him to change himself into a female cuz god forbid this be a gay novel.”

He blows out a steady stream of smoke as he talks. “Your uncle’s a gay vampire?”

“Was. As unbelievable as that sounds.”

“Was?”

“He’s been dead for 15 years. Or at least that’s what we think”

“Well, that’s not unbelievable. That sounds like my great great grandfather. Although he did have sex with a woman at one point, obviously.”

He blows out another stream of smoke. “So, why are you so interested in your uncle? I assume you weren’t that old when he died or disappeared or whatever and you didn’t know about him being a vampire until now.”

“No, I didn’t know. He always came around at night the last month or so before his disappearance. I never found it odd because I was only 6. I just wanted to know what happened to him… and now I know.”

He leans in a bit and looks into my eyes. “I wish I knew more about my prahdehd but all I know is that he traveled through Europe in his early 20’s after leaving my great great grandmother, never knowing she was pregnant. He met someone special and he wrote back saying he was in love with a man.” He pauses and takes another drag before continuing, staring at the table. “I don’t know why I’m telling you all this. You’re practically a stranger but I feel like I can talk to you. You know how someone just feels so familiar?” At that he looks back up into my eyes.

“I was thinking the same exact thing. I just feel comfortable talking about this with you for some reason.”

We both smile at each other for what seems like hours before I work up the courage to ask what I wanted to ask ever since I first laid eyes on him. “Joe, you wouldn’t want to grab dinner some night, would you?”

His face lights up and his smile widens. “I would love to. Just call me Yos, ok? I actually prefer that to Joe. The café makes me use it.”

“Sure, Yos.”

He picks a pen out of his shirt pocket and reaches across the table to grab my hand. He writes his cell number and screen name on the top of my hand. “Let me know when you’re free and we’ll work something out.”

“Ok, I’ll call you then.”

“It was very nice to meet you, Sheamus.”

“Ah, same here. I’ll talk to you later.”

“Ok, bye.”

I walk out of the café with my latte in hand. Yes, I still haven’t taken one sip. I fought the urge to skip as I walk down the street towards my apartment.

A couple of days after meeting him, we talked on the phone and set date for Friday night. So I picked up Yos and we set out for a dinner and a movie.

We decided on this one restaurant. Not upscale but definitely classier than McDonald’s. We looked through the menus once we were seated and we kept exchanging glances over our respective menus. It got a little awkward until Yos broke down and smiled the biggest, brightest smile as he tried to hide the fact that he was blushing.

The waiter came back with our drinks as we finally got back to looking our menus again. “Have you decided, or do you need a few minutes?” the waiter asked politely.

Yos spoke up first, “All your burgers could be substituted for Boca burgers, right?” I perked up as I heard that. I haven’t found a guy yet that was a vegetarian like me. Chalk that one up as a pro.

“Of course.”

He ordered a burger with a Boca while I ordered a cheeseburger with a Boca. He stared at me as I ordered. His eyebrow raised a bit.

“You’re a vegetarian?” He asked when the waiter left.

“Yea, I was surprised when you ordered the Boca. I can never find a guy who’s a vegetarian that I’m attracted to. There’s one thing we have in common.”

“Well, I’m actually a vegan but we do have two other things in common.”

“Two?” I asked. I wanted to know who taught him math.

“Yes,” he started, “vampires and our love of coffee.”

“Oh, I forgot about that… Don’t you think it’s ironic that we both had relatives who were vampires yet we don’t eat meat.”

“He laughed, almost choking on his soda. “That’s so true that’s it’s funny,” he coughed.

We compared notes on vampires and talked about my uncle’s journal a little more. We talked so much about our theories on the supernatural and family and everything under the sun. Once we started talking we didn’t stop, except to eat of course.

It was so much fun just talking to him. We talked so much that we were almost late for our movie. We got to the theater on time though, thank goodness. Since Yos bought us dinner, I insisted on paying for the movie and snacks. So, after I twisted his arm, he let me buy him some gummy bears and I got some Reese’s Pieces.

We had chosen a Johnny Depp movie, since we both agreed that he was a great actor. Ok, so we agreed he was hot too. During the movie, I kept catching him looking at me and he caught him as well. After catching my gaze one last time, he pushed the arm of the seat up and out of the way so we weren’t separated anymore.

His hand slipped into mine and out hands stayed together for the rest of the movie. I looked over at him near the end, when I felt him squeeze my hand tighter. He was in a trance. The images on the screen had him mesmerized. So beautiful. His skin seemed to glow, pale as and angels from the light of the film being thrown over the seats and into the faces of the movie goers. It highlighted the stunning blue of his eyes and the curve of his lips as his mouth slightly open, probably unconsciously.

He finally noticed my staring and almost shyly met my gaze, with that beautiful bashful smile. I don’t know what came over me but my hand reached up to caress his chin and we leaned in to kiss each other. His tongue slowly slid into my mouth and I rolled my tongue over his tenderly. He mimicked my movements but soon retracted his tongue and our lips met again.

We pulled back and our eyes locked. I could almost hear what he was thinking. He felt that electricity too. He felt that jolt of energy as out lips met too. Maybe it was some strange connection. Some bigger force pushing us together. But I’m not sure if I believe in God, so there had to be some sort of logical explanation for our meeting each other. Whether it be fate or something stronger.

He rested his head again mine while we finished watching the rest of the movie. And it felt so natural.

After the movie, he walked me back to my apartment. My palm wasn’t as sweaty as the first time we held hands. I was getting so much more comfortable with him. And it seemed like the feeling was mutual.

We walked all the way up to my stoop and he gave a nice sweet goodnight kiss before walking back to his place. I really didn’t want him to leave but I couldn’t screw up this wonderful budding relationship with sex this early on. As much as I wanted him in my bed, I had to pass it up. I wanted this to work so badly. But at the same time I had a strong feeling that nothing could ever screw this up. I kept getting strange feelings like that all day and I couldn’t say it was that unwelcome but I did reprimand myself for being so dull and sentimental.

I got upstairs and who was the first person I called. Mom. Yes, I am a mama’s boy. I am not afraid to admit that but she is like my best girlfriend. She’s always trying to hook me up and give me motherly and friend-ly advice. She is so amazingly open-minded. When I was younger I had no problem coming out to her because I knew she wouldn’t have a problem with it. It was my Da that needed some convincing. But mom made him understand. “You can accept your brother as a gay man but not your son.” And his over-used argument, “But who’s going to carry on the Brodie name?” I remembered that argument so well. She replied, “This one will”, as she patted her stomach. It was a great day. I learned that I was finally gonna have a brother after growing up with two younger sisters. After that day, Da shut his mouth on the subject. But he never did prefer one child over the other, which I appreciated.

Anyway, I always talked to my mom when I came in at night. It was to let her know I was safe. She worries too much about me. Ever since I moved out two years ago and she’s still worried about me till this day. Possibly because she knows what is out there in the night. Not just robbers and perverts, she knows I can hold my own with them. But ever since there had been some major cases involving vampires, she was concerned about me when I’m out at night.

“How was your date?” She said. I could just see her eyes glowing. That little twinkle in her eyes when she was lusting some juicy gossip. That look always makes me laugh.

“It was amazing, mom. I really like this guy so far. I just feel so comfortable with him. It’s weird.”

“Oh, so do you think this could be the one?”

“Please, mom.” I rolled my eyes. “This is our first date. I can’t possibly tell right now..”

“Ok, ok. So, I’m over doing it a little…What does he look like? You’ll have to bring him over here to meet us. Like dinner or something.”

“Hold on there, stallion. Give it a week or so.”

“Fine. So, what does he look like?”

“Oh, God. I could go on for hours.”

“Really. That good, huh?”

“Yes.”

“Ok, just give me the basics then. Name. Color hair. Color eyes. Smile. Or god forbid any piercings.”

“His name is Josef Plushenko. Black hair, cut in this really cute style. Blue eyes, breathtaking. Smile, same as the eyes. And lord have mercy he has two piercings. That I know of anyway.”

“What two?”

“Monroe and from what I felt, his tongue too.”

“Oh, you dog, you made out on the first date. What’s a Monroe?”

“It’s like Marilyn Monroe’s beauty mark.”

“Oh, ok. Gotcha.”

She paused to giggle and I could hear my Da mock-scolding her from a distance. “Geez, you sound like you’re talking to a girlfriend. Are you two ladies finished yet? I’m tired.”

“Mom, tell the old man to go to sleep by himself.” I laughed.

“I’ve tried, hun. But then he gets grumpy and you know how much he hates the couch. He’ll just be miserable all tomorrow because his back hurts.”

“Ok, fine. Tell the ogre to go lie down. And tell him I love ‘em.”

“Alright honey. I will. Goodnight.”

“Goodnight, mom. Love you.”

“Love you too, Shea.”

“Bye”

I usually feel better after talking to her. Since my roommate works so much I hardly ever get to talk to her anymore. Mostly just here to sleep and get a quick bite to eat. This is more like her rest stop than her home. But that’s ok. I like being alone sometimes.

So, since I was alone I laid down and started writing in my journal. I couldn’t go to sleep yet. I was too excited. I had a special someone on my mind. And the way my body was acting now that he is on my mind, and only my hand to comfort me, I’m glad that I am alone.

I promise there will be some sex in the next one. And the end of Aidan and Mika\'s story will be explained in time. Hope you enjoyed this.
