The world building was good, but went mostly unused except to explain why everyone acted the way they did. If you did the story without the backdrop, I don't think it would change anything outside of whether it was happening in reality or not. It's not bad that you did the world building, but the story itself was a missed opportunity to use it.
Otherwise, you did good work. I just would reconsider how you used the backdrop you set up.
