My original review is missing, so I'll write another one. I have no idea what I said last time, so if I repeat myself, please forgive me.
This is a great use of some difficult prompts, but I was so happy when you went further and wrote again in this universe. You are so brilliant at world building. Here, from the first moment I love how harsh this world is, and the way you slip in references to the masks and clockwork is so deft. The brass horns are a particularly nice touch. I could see the sun shining on them, blinding. I could smell the sweat.
Of course, I've read this before, but again I find it easy to share your vision, yet still feel as though I'm wandering in a foreign land, far from home. It's such beautiful work.
Thank you for sharing this :)
Delightful! Your descriptions are so visceral!
Ah. Young love.
