Rereading Annie's Stories, I came across this story and found it connecting me to two more works you've written. I have not read them yet, but intend to start them as soon as I finish this wee comment. I loved this story. Delia is, to my mind, one of your most interesting characters and I'm glad that she does not appear to be permanently exiled from your writing.
If you choose to try a career as a published author (commercially that is), I believe you could do so because your imagination, turn of phrase, and punning are wondrous.
