I sympathize with Milo and Nick. Panic attacks are the worse. I hope Milo doesn't hold Nick's panic attack against him. Personally if I had Milo's experience with doctors and someone I trusted left me when I needed them most, I'd be pissed and passive agressive.
I've been meaning to review, but I've been so busy. Firstly though, sorry to hear about the writers block, guessing same thing happened with Oblivion. Can't remember if I already mentioned this to you, but what helps me is to write a chapter further along, so I have a goal to get to. If you want help, let me know.
I find Milo really interesting, in some ways he has broken, he's so afraid of a lot of things, but every now and then he shows real confidence. Though I kind of paused, his bloodline is Joseph II, funny coincidence. With his fear, and apprehension about Nick, it felt a little out of place when he reacted to the deoderant and shave supplies, especially when he thinks about the fact the behavior would have gotten him punished with trainers. With Nick's panic attack and abandoning Milo, I expect those instances of personality and independance will disappear for a long while.
Nick....not even sure where to start. I understand how messed up he is after losing Seth, but it seems to have made him stupid. From his initial plans and understanding of modifications, he seems to be in the slave business, but every new thing he finds out about Milo shocks him. I can understand about the uvula, and maybe even over the sweat glands and hair. He says how someone spent a lot of money, and internally complains about knowing nothing about Milo's history, but he asks Milo nothing. Which I think is crazy because Nick acknowledges (again internally) that Milo is smart and Milo has been able to answer Nick's questions about his physical history, and could tell Nick his training history. With the blood loss, I don't think Nick should be blaming Mike, this was his fault entirely. At this point, Nick isn't making mistakes with Milo, it's neglect from stupidity.
Also, Nick's admitted he's keeping Milo and not selling him, I wonder if he'll manage to stop calling it Seth's room, and start clearing some things out, it would also help him start to heal after losing Seth. Because the constant reminder to Milo of Seth can't be helping Milo at all, even though Milo hasn't thought about it after realizing he was a replacement, it must be nagging at him, making him jealous / resentful / feeling inadequate.
General musings, I hope eventually we find out who Milo's intended owner was, how his training ended up so badly, what happened to Seth.
I don't think Milo will break from physical pain. It looks like he already was tortured and suffered a lot, all without breaking. I look forward to seeing each character develop - I love how they each have their own complexity to them.
I try to go easy on the exclamation marks from now on ;) Poor Nick and poor Milo, I really hope they come to an understanding along the way^^ They really need to talk with eachother but I imagine taking their relationship into consideration it will be difficult! See you again soon!
This story is absolutely captivating. I was drawn in before I even began to read. You have an incredibly well written synopsis and I want you to know that I find that in itself, impressive. It's so difficult to do with so few characters but you really nailed it. I was hooked. Having caught up with your latest chapter, I've decided to write, to tell you how much I have appreciated your writing. Your imagery is fantastic and I love these subtle bits of mystery that hint at further, in-depth exploration of these fascinating characters. I hope Nick comes to the realization that Milo is human too and more than just a slave. His treatment of Milo makes me wonder if Nick ever saw Seth as a human and not a slave. I know he loved Seth, but did he love him as. A person or just a slave?
Again I'm glad to see things from Nick's POV. is chapter made him more real and likable for me. I was relived to find that Nick hadn't been cruel to Milo just for the sake of being cruel. He had a purpose and while that doesn't make it right, it makes sense. Given the culture they were raised in it is natural for Nick to act the way he does. I'm glad that he seems to naturally be a good person.
Though the situation is unfortunate I feel that it was a good thing over all. Milo's trip to the clinic helped Nick to realize some important things about himself and his relationship with Milo. I hope it will convince Nick to be less hot and cold with his slave.
Even though we haven't met Seth I love him. It's heartbreaking that he's dead. The more I know about him the more curious I am about the circumstances of his death.
While the more I learn about Milo's past the more I despise his unnamed intended master.
