This is actually a very timely essay, given the mess we call politics here in the United States. We are seeing played out, on the public stage, that very clash between cultural and religiously derived ethics and morality, and it's both enlightening and frightening to see how very flexible those things can be.

But you are right--this is truly what sets us apart and defines us as human. A very thought-provoking essay!
