Very sad for Duro but also very in keeping with Tito and the world in which they live. I hope there's something good in store for Duro.

Ah, I knew it, Tito was just selling him! What a jerk, he didn't even warn him or try to explain himself, just silently betrayed him. Poor Duro, getting sold again. I'm glad at least he seems to hold enough value that they won't throw him away in the mines or anything. This is too addictive! Thanks for updating, hope to read another chapter soon!

I may be overthinking this but it seems like there's an underlying theme, one of reality vs perception/delusion. Pompey thinks the Egyptians will welcome and assist him. Duro was seduced into believing in Tito's affection and protection. Heck, Tito appeared to believe that for a time. Clitis' initial demeanor is one of authority and safety within his role. But they're all lies. Even the title of this work is a lie. The characters believe what they want to believe, or maybe what they need to believe to survive emotionally. And then reality pulls the rug out.

IMO only. I could be completely off target.

It seems to me, someone has a guilty conscience. I feel sorry for poor Duro already, although nothing negative has really been revealed about his fate. But that will come with the morn. ~soft sad sigh~

On a happier note, I was really pleased to see an update so soon after the last one. You nail those muses down, and hang on tight to them, lol.

Good to see updates! And the end kind of left me feeling chilly. Tito seems like he's being kind to Duro to make up for something - is he actually going to take him home with him? Or is something about to happen to him? Very good chapter, as always!

I'm getting a bad feeling about how Nice Tito is being to Duro. Fearing he's planning to sell him or give him away. Such a betrayal when Duro has been tempted to trust him.

Thanks for the update.

I'm not sure if I like this Valen character or not. He seems to be playing some sort of power game of his own, possibly to make up for being a slave himself.
There are a few minor errors in this chapter, but the three I want to draw your attention to are a little bigger.

1} “Perhaps, Dominus, I should wash your face and hands and face first,” I suggested.
Too many faces in there.

2} His hands were on head once more. “Are you sure you’re up to this?” / And written just a little bit further down... / His hands moved to my head, stroking my hair.
His hands can't move to his head, if they were already there.

3} I saw him glance at the window. At first, I saw only darkness – but then I caught sight of moving lights in the distance. Torches. / Yet in the previous chapter, you wrote... / There was even a small window. Too high to look out, but it let in a fresh breeze.
If it were too high to look out of, how did Duro see the torches?

I know real life has been a bit tough on you at the moment, so I am just glad to see an update, error's and all. I only mention them as you know me too, and you understand this is what I like to do; point out things in the hope that I help.
Keep that muse working, because I can't wait for the next update :D

I'm so glad there is an update <333 I was waiting for this.
Love this story, please keep up with the good job, can't wait to read the rest of it already.
May I please ask you, even though I know it's rude- for you not to rush with the story just in order to finish it? Take your time and write only when you feel comfortable with it. Some storied here are being dragged on for years and except for some ungrateful fans, no one is complaining. I'm sure that finishing the story the way you planned from the very beginning, instead of just cutting to a quick halt just to wrap it up and get done with it, is better. I personally would prefer to read the actual plot- as long as it takes- rather than the shortcut version.

Again, thank you so much for sharing this story, it's so awesome.
