I have so many emotions floating around from this chapter, I have no idea where to begin! At first, I got the feeling that this story was set at an earlier time but then Alex/Steven started talking about modern things! Nothing wrong with that and it wasn't confusing; it was just the feeling that I got!
The reason why I told you that I got that vibe that Alex was definitely a Marine was because I was around them for a better part of my life; I eventually married one! So although they are individuals, there are certain aspects and demeanor that they share; you brought that out in the writing very nicely!
I like that this was written in third person in order to see the inner thoughts of everyone of importance. You can also feel the emotions carried in their eyes. At first, I was not a big fan of Sam's. But then I realized that I am a big sister; our mission is to make the younger siblings' lives hell for a bit!
Reading about pre-military Alex reminded me of myself. The day that I left for boot camp was a very emotional one and I also thought that my family would think that I was abandoning them.
I don't know what else to say about this aside from the fact that it's very good. There were a few areas where the pronouns were mixed up, particularly in the second flashback scene when Alex is talking to his mother. Other than that, I was able to keep up with the flow of the story with no problems!

A brilliant story with some very accurate insight into human nature. I thoroughly recommend this story. A second part has been posted a few months ago, and it takes up the good work of this story. It really should be carried on

Yeah - good story BUT GITG is better in my opinion. A chapter every month or so vs a chapter every day or so on the other two.

Seriously though, I think chapter 2 doesn't just pick up and continue from 1 but is even better I think!!!
