The set up to this was pitched perfectly. I was ready for anything, but Kristina appearing and being the way she was... pretty far down the list.

It made me laugh, but I'm glad Colin got what he needed in the end, if not what he wanted. The candle did work. I wonder what might have happened if he'd not volunteered the money for it.

He's over her and can get on with his own life.

Poor Colin... at first I feel sorry for him but then I laughed at the end XD

Here I was, nicely prepared for a bit of remorse, a tender word, or perhaps even Colin being unable to verbalize his feelings even now. I was ever vaguely prepared for Ethel Merman, but you are far too good for anything so trite as that.

That was one of the most delicious endings I've read and my hat is off to you.

That was a nice unexpected result story for your lead. I'm glad he did this, and finally realized what she was. It would have been truly sad if he continued moping for someone who would never have liked him the way he hoped. That would make him needlessly sad.

I love the way you open this story. The way you describe the scene with Colin lighting that match, then the seamless transition to the shop - I can picture it all so clearly.

If he was going to be senile, at least he could have been more entertaining. -- Hilarious!

When you mention that Colin had left the money on the counter, you use the term 'coin'. I'm curious as to whether this is a reference to the form of money? In which case, thank you for teaching me about Canadian currency this morning, as I didn't know that there was a coin in that denomination (me not being Canadian and all).

That was brilliant! I loved the ending. I don't want to give it away, but after making me feel chills at her arriving the way she did, that conversation between them was priceless! And so very true to life.

Thank you for sharing this - I found it a very enjoyable read!
