Well, I like it. I like the start, the plot (or better said the hints about the plot), I like the character and how you alienate Grant. Give more details about his present situation (I understand that he lives by himself, deserted by his mother and sustaining his daily life from welfare and such), and probably some flash-backs (because I believe that the general banning and disliking doesn't get limited only at hateful stares) - his turmoil, the latter development of his personality and relationships are linked with those happenings. Keep going, because you do so well.
