OH! Having just read the whole thing straight I am so overwhelmed by this story! these characters! all of them! I love each one! I am holding myself back from gushing all over you in this review... let's just say things might get ugly if I don't hold back... Ryo's character progression is such a thing of beauty! And the slow unveiling of Brennen's personality is also addictive... and Blainn! Oh! Blainn! I am so glad there was a character like him in this story, he was such a perfect counterpoint to Ryo's and Brennan's developing relationship... the way Blainn really cared for Ryo... it made me teary... And his background story was so harsh but realistic and yet his personality is so resilient or rather, i suppose that is why he is resilient, or at least he wouldn't have survived if he wasn't... please make sure to wrap up his story sweetly! please have him find some sweet old true love... maybe with that poor girl who he loved...! Seriously the way you have articulated these characters from the very beginning, there was so much skill, so much craftsmanship, and the quality was consistent! I feel like they are real people, I feel like I have been in their world (uh oh, the wanky review is beginning... I sense the corniness coming on lol) I have just spent hours and hours reading this straight... I literally could not stop (no matter how pressing my japanese assignment is oh well...) Ryo! I felt his confusion, his disorientation, like the rug had been swept from under OUR feet as he stumbled into the back alley and then before he knew it WE were being whisked away without mercy, without explanation... (it was really fun) and then Blainn appeared and he was lovely and fascinating (I've never read a character like him before, he was really fresh! i loved him!)
And poor Ryo's panic attacks... I felt as anguished and anxious during those moments! it was oppressive, that room, the relentless fear... it got to us... and Brennan! ashamed to say I got so swept up in his sadistic mind fuckery... oh! he was magnetic! As soon as he entered the scene the entire feeling shifted powerfully! He always increased the fear, the anxiousness and there was something so sexy about him (i know... I am one of those tragic yaoi-fan-girls who get off on evil semes... although your character is WAY more complex than a yaoi sadistic seme, i am in no way saying he is something as cliche as that)... anyway whenever he appeared I always cheered enthusiastically because things would immediately become so much more intense!!!!! and when the sex finally happened... oh it was conflicting! you wrote it so perfectly... the smut was hot but it was steeped in Ryo's emotions and his feelings and his inner dialogue and your adroitness here just made everything so damn fantastic to read... In almost every longish story on fiction sites like this there are generally low points in the story... things start to fall apart plot-wise, or the characters are not progressing... or it just gets boring... BUT THERE WAS NO LOW POINT!!!! your story was freaking amazing ALL THE WAY THROUGH
When he was released from his captivity and allowed to go home I was thinking... what? how is he going to make it? and then you solved my fears so beautifully by having Blainn swoop down and save him and bring him back to the proximity of Brennan (maw hahahaaa thank you for that lol)
But Ryo's psychological state, the way you expressed it and progressed it, it is a masterpiece, seriously!
And when you finally reveal why he was kept for so long, it all made sense... your plot is water tight and believable (but not mundane in the slightest)
And as you unravel his stockholm syndrome, as Ryo realises how screwed over his mind was... I was so floored by it all... it was like I too had been brainwashed and then all this stuff just started to make sense and I got damn angry at Brennan lol!
Now that he has shown up after 6 months and he is so damn un-rapey! I love him for his current un-rapey-ness even though it was previously dub-con at the best of times which he fully admits... such an interesting relationship!!!
You are damn skilful!
And the ending is shaping up sweetly... although I am not sure how I feel about his impending marriage... I think I can only ever be at the same level as Ryo in this story... in terms of how I feel and working out my tangled mess of emotions toward Brennan... when he realises stuff, that's is when I finally get it too... lol
And the way Brennan is paying for his schooling... so sweet!
oh! and how it was Phillip who put in the missing persons report... that was gold! it is these sorts of lovely details that make this such an amazing experience to read!
Thank you a thousand times over for writing this! The amount of time and effort you have invested is obvious and it has surely payed off because this is precious, quality stuff!
I am also absolutely intrigued by the "real" Brennan and Ryo story you talk about in your profile...
man, I am sure there is so much else to say... but i read it all at once so i have forgotten it... hopefully this isn't just mad gushings of love, hopefully it makes a little sense when you read it!

He has been waiting for over a year to kiss him, 6 months to visit him, wants everything from him - can the mobster be in love (lust went out the window a long time ago during captivity)?????? Or are they just more words?
An unexpected twist (the engagement), but not surprised about another aspect of Brennan’s life being revealed to Ryo.
Coming to an end, will Ryo be the ‘kept man’? Will it end in death? Will it end at all? This is so very interesting and cannot wait for the next chapter.

What a great ending to my night!
First of all, I'm really glad you tied those loose ends with that phone call(????) in chapter 3? I remember Brennan talking about a woman somewhere... And yeah, even though he is getting married, I don't think that those two could really ever be anything other than a fling on the side... I hope everyone else isn't mad, but if this was the twist you told me about, I think that it was very fitting!
I really cant see those two as anything other than something physical. If Ryo and Brennan became a couple, moved in together, and yadda yadda yadda, the whole forbidden aspect of it would be gone and then I think Brennan would get bored. Yes, I think they are best as a fling. A sexy fling. A very sassy and sexy fling. Mmhm. Yes.
The whole moth metaphor; beautiful! I was so fond of that, it was incredibly creative and added a little slice-of-life to the chapter. Moths hold so much symbolism as well so I can only wonder.
Oh goodness, and Ryo's thoughts completely interrupting the story when he was calling Brennan a tease, I was laughing so hard!

I fucking love you!! So I was worried for no reason over the plot twist thing...now i'm snickering and making creepy eyes...anyway as long as she doesn't get between them we r good fo life! I'm obviously here for the romance (i dunno why i always get sucked into the ones that make it a torturious, difficult, long but oh so addicting process to get to that point...but i keep hope alive.) Breanan is adorable cus his gaurded moments, it makes it seem as if he is still fuckin with him but in a totally different way, while also protecting himself and whatever his possibly feeling or wanting...but sense ryo can be slow...oh dear ryo... He probably doesnt want to act on those feelings only to be rejected...which mob bosses never take well...anywho great chappie! Thanks for the email update! Hurry with the next one...(now that i have internet all i do is read fics and only m/m fics... so i need constant flow of reading material XD my data bill always goes over now...so keep verizon happy!)

I wasn't expecting this twist. I know I keep reviewing as if the new chapter isn't out yet but right now, I have absolutely no patience or self control. I feel like if I bundle it all up and try to save it for one review at the end of this long roller coaster ride you have put me on today, I'm afraid I will forget something, or it won't feel as raw to me anymore.
The tugging of Brennan's sleeve? So adorable, wait, no, I didn't think that. Not at all. Ugh. Gross! Gross! Ew ew ew don't do it Ryo! Okay. So I liked it. You happy now? You've turned me into a sick perve. I like these stories because I wanna see what happens when the victim goes free... I'm not the one who's there to enjoy the ride.. But for this story I apparently am.
I love how you portrayed everything going on in Ryo's mind during the elevator scene. It's totally relatable to the average person thinking about laundry, socks, dinner, and all that crap when they are going somewhere, except this party has nothing to do about socks.
Oh, and I just about died when I read everything about watching the movie backwards. It made me laugh so hard, because I'm seriously just as confused as Ryo. Oh Dear. :D
