Wow, poor Robert. So much pain. He really should have seen a therapist to help him deal with this. Five years is such a long time to feel this pain and hopelessness.
I hope Sam didn't take Robert's "absence" as Robert not wanting to see him b/c he's gay.

Ok, I'm dying to know what happened to Robert? He must have been traumatized in some way. Was he raped? Even his self-absorbed mother notices something's not right with him.
I absolutely LOVE the banter between Robert and his mother. Omg, she's hysterical! Holy shit! I love her even though she's mean and nasty to Robert. She just comes out and says the way it is; she doesn't care how it sounds and she has no filter! She's a hoot! :)
Hopefully the next chapter we'll read about Robert finally getting some. But I want to know why he is consciously not trying to meet anyone. I can't wait to find out what happened to him to make him this way. He's so sad and depressed. He never wants to go out and try to have fun; he's such a buzz-kill. lol But seriously, he's only twenty-eight, but he acts like he's older than his mother. He's got his whole life to have fun and do what he wants. It's so sad.

Wow! What an awesome story! It's so well-written; free from typos, grammatical errors, punctuation errors, etc. It's a pleasure to read!
I feel so bad for Robert; he's so lonely and unhappy with his life. Although Sam gave up a very lucrative career, he's doing what he loves. And best yet, he's from Hartford! My kid goes to school up there! :)
Anyway...great story. I hope Sam and Robert become good friends and Sam can help Robert become more assertive.
