It seems like Maxx is trying to be Jase's friend more than his doctor. Maybe that's b/c of his burgeoning feelings towards him?
Ok so, out of my own curiosity, I went into Ask.com and asked about the term gay used to describe a homosexual in the 1800's and came upon some interesting info. First of course gay meant happy and such. Then it was used like in the phrase "with gay abandon" which means with reckless abandon. Then it started to mean like a prostitute; gay women were women who were like sex workers. The word gay only started to mean homosexual in the early 1940's.
According to Wikitionary.org, homosexual was first used to be invented to identify gays back in the 1860's. It was actually invented by Karl Heinrich Ulrichs in his book of 1864. His book has a very long German name that I didn't write down. lol The terms homosexual and homosexuality did not exist until the second half of the 1860's.
Surprisingly, I can't find any term used to describe homosexuals prior to the 1860's. The only terms I see are very derogatory; sodomite and catamite, even bugger was used back then.
Anyway, I found all this interesting. Amazing what you can find online! And they talk of many, many historical figures and Kings and such engaged in this "behavior"!
Ok, I'll shut up now! lol Looking forward to the next chapter! :)

Trista, you're back! And with a new story title! I was wondering what happened to this story....
Since you're editing chapters, I thought I'd point out one little error: when Mr. Kent comes in to Jase's room, it says that he's at leave 6'6", I think you meant he's at least..and I was taught many years ago (maybe things have changed) that the writer should always write out a number, such as six-foot six and thirty-four years old. Maybe I'll google it; but that's what I do when I proof stories; I always write out the number.
Maxx was thinking to himself towards the end of the chapter about like rehearsing for a court case. Did they actually know this term, "court case" in the 1800's? I was just curious.
This chapter was very interesting. Of course nothing is wrong with Jase; he's perfectly normal. Amazing that they put people away for homosexuality back then. What'd they do, just rot in these mental institutions? Horrible.
I'm wondering when the doc will finally give in to Jase's flirting and aggressiveness.
Looking forward to the next installment! :)

Oh, and Trista, as far as your A/N, I didn't realize that weed was used back then. I didn't even know it existed! lol And doctor's used it? Hmmm, interesting, especially now with the medical marijuana controversy going on!
And the word homosexual that I'm sure was the only word used back then. But also, back then being homosexual was like an abomination, abnormal (of course, that's why Jason is in a mental institute!), but didn't they also kill people for being like this? They thought it was some disease that couldn't be cured? I'm not sure, it just seems like back then if people knew about someone being homosexual, it would be a really bad thing.
Anyway, great story, can't wait for more! :)

It seems like Maxx has met his match with Jason as far as intelligence goes. Jason knows exactly what he's doing. He likes playing mind games and seeing how far he can go before Maxx snaps. lol

This is an interesting story. I've read stories before about doctors and their patients in mental institutions, but never one that didn't take place in modern times.
I did have a few "observations"; I know for a fact that the word "bipolar" didn't exist back in the 1800's. I don't think the word was used up until twenty years ago, maybe less. I'm also not sure about the word "marijuana"; I didn't think they had that name back then; wait, did they even HAVE illegal drugs back then? lol Also, the word "gay" wasn't used back then either. Remember, the word "gay" was ALWAYS associated with the word happy.
But....other than these questions about the 1800's, this is a really good story. Very well-written and thought out. I like how the dialogue flows and I'm interested to know more about Jason. Why is he so angry with Maxx?
I look forward to the next chapter. :)

I might have been interested, but it's impossible to read. You need to reformat it so that it doesn't take up three screens width. I doubt that very many people are going to bother scrolling back and forth that much.
