Saved by the distinctive smell from the rear end of a warhorse? That's about as unique as I ever did see. Did a good job on drip feeding the information to the reader, and the final change of perspective to the King at the end was a fine 'oh shit!' moment.

The end??? This was a marvelous tale, and one I would love to see more of in future. As confused as we all might have been by this prompt, you definitely met the challenge with flair. :D
