You're good at pacing. Very good at pacing, actually. You've managed to draw out the suspense and keep your reader fearful for the protagonist. Kudos.

A few grammar mistakes here and there, but nothing glaring. I like the premise so far and am really wanting to find out exactly how this all will unfold. Everything seems very realistic so far, which is good. Can't wait to read more :) A good first chapter most definitely.
