for Waiting in the Throes

How dare you post this so late! I am hereby abandoning this fic! ...just kidding. ;) Honestly, I'm just pleasantly surprised and extremely happy that you still update this when it's so common for fics here to be abandoned, or updated randomly once or twice a year. A couple months in between is not so bad at all, considering you aren't paid and, I suppose, have a life outside of gay erotica fiction!

Hmm, so we found out about Jason. I'm glad he's safe and alive, though considering the police were so reluctant to mention him and had a difficult time finding him, I wonder if his family moved or is under some kind of protection, with the threat of the "organization" and of course Richard still out there. I wonder why the police there didn't contact the people in charge of Brennan's case, unless Jason wasn't able to give them any details at all about who the other boy might be? Or maybe he did but the police chose not to tell his family because Brennan could have died? I'm not sure. The other possibility, I suppose, is that Jason is pretty fucked up and unstable, can't communicate/function normally, which would hardly be a surprise. Maybe he's even been hospitalized? I hope his family at least is understanding of what happened and is able to love him unconditionally, I think it'd be the worst if he suffered for three years and his family somehow blamed him for that.

I'm not quite sure what this means "super log off of Facebook" - does that mean deleting Brennan's FB or deactivating it or something? I had been wondering before if his FB would turn into a plot device or something, if Phil/Al might check it (at least Al) and find out he's alive. But as Brennan said this chapter, there's a good chance they already know he's alive. After all, Phil knows Brennan wasn't buried and he was probably found by someone with the dog, and the news reported finding the body of a John Doe and probably mentioned that he is in critical care or in a coma or something. They might consider the huge possibility that Brennan succumbed to his severe injuries, as there was, I think, probably not many updates about his condition and none that he woke up? They could still hope he's dead, after all. I also considered that Phil didn't tell Al that Brennan's body was likely found, so as to prevent him from obsessing further. I don't know if he'd be dishonest to his partner, and if their safety is jeopardized I'm sure he'd prioritize that, but I imagine Al will be pretty upset for awhile and Phil probably wants that to run its course and die.

I feel bad for Brennan's mother, it seems he's opened up to her the least in his family, or at least she seems the most hurt by how he is acting. It's probably good that he chose Matt to be with him for the photos. I'm not sure how any parent could stand seeing such horrific injuries on their child, though I can't imagine Brennan will be able to hide them forever. He's going to need care on them for awhile, after all. Next chapter, I wonder if Brennan will tell them the meaning of the brand. Again, I should have thought that Jason would have already told them about the organization and dropped names of Brennan and the two other victims he met and the proper people would have been contacted... even when/if Jason was photographed (I assume he was checked out at the hospital) they might already have the brand on record. But it seems either that didn't happen, not much was communicated or Jason didn't tell.

I'm guessing there won't be too many more hospital chapters because I think you said awhile ago that you might jump forward, so I'm already wondering what happens next! Namely, will Brennan go home or somewhere else, considering Phil and Al have his address... I wonder if he's even considered that yet?

Thanks for updating, as always! :)

I love how you've made great arguments for both sides between the police and what they must do and the family as well as Bren it's truly a believable story and one I will contiune to read for as long at it takes to finish! OH and thank you for letting Jason live!

You know usually when it's a kidnap story I don't give much thought to the victims family - in fact it seems quite a boring angle but I'm genuinely finding this fascinating. Maybe because its realistic, maybe because I love Brennan, I dunno. But instead of willing Al and Phil and the danger to reappear like I would have expected, I'm actually engrossed in Brennan's recovery and all the hospital/police stuff.

Also I wanna say that the demanding reviewer(s) have forgotten that Brennan is not a real person - they think he is and that you're supposed to update us on him rather than what this actually is which is you giving us free reading material! I always think of Brennan as real too and it does feel frustrating to wait to hear from him next, but I never forget that you are doing us the (massive) favour here. I feel like someone being rude to you is being rude to Brennan. And it's worth noting that there are writers who give up on their stories or update yearly - a few weeks in comparison is completely impressive given chapter length. Thank you so much!

Hey Maddox, I left a note on your Tumblr page this morning but my comment got cut off before I could type my name in and I left another one right after I posted the first so I hope you know which one is from me. Anyway, don't let anyone aggravate you they are just not worth the effort or your valuable time and it's better to ignore people like that or they keep coming back because they know they are ruffling your feathers so to speak. Now, you know how happy I am about the news of Jason being safe and reuniting with his own family after such a long time of captivity with Richard. I was seriously wondering what happened to him and know we all know and are relieved. What I am worried about now is the fact that when the press comes out with news about Brennan and even Jason that Richard and Phil will see it and seek retribution of some sort for having their lives distrupted. I hope that Jason has been given police protection until they catch them. I am glad you are not rushing anything and taking your time explaining the hospital/police procedures side to it. You have done some careful research and it shows in your writing. I am learning a lot that I didn't know about. I think that Matt is the most suitable family member to be with him during the photo and question session. I like Chloe very much and know she can help him since she also is a survivor/victim of an assault. Oh, and I love Brennan's dad especially when he said this to Brennan; “It’s not a matter of letting the police do anything Brennan, it’s a matter of your safety, and catching the animals who did this.” My dad’s face was slowly tinting red, his free hand clenching into a fist. I would love to see his dad can't his hands on Phil just once that would be awesome. Hugs, CelticThunderFan, aka Katie.

"they deserve to know" ??? They deserve to know that Brennan is found and alive, and nothing more! If Brennan wants, he will tell more... what's wrong with that woman? (or maybe I just misunderstood the scene...)

I'm so glad that Jason is alive and reunited with his family.

Ok. I'm not very impressed with Lynette right now. "They deserve to know." (Ò_Ó <-My face when I read that) What?! Maybe my sense of familial obligation is slightly skewed or I'm misinterpreting exactly -what- she wants to be able to say...I'll just continue to glare every time I read anything she says from here on out until her intent is made clear. She's been the family member that has visibly struggled the most with what's happened to Brennen, so I'm trying to keep that in mind...but still!

That being said, I really want to commend you for how you're writing Brennen's recovery thus far. I think I may have said this already, but I often read stories where the recovery is either skimmed over (which is crazy to me! That's where you can have a ton of plot and character development!) or tends to lack a certain reality to it. Great job and authors that do their research thoroughly make me so happy.

Good luck on the next chapter!

Aaand it deleted most of my review. Way to go, AFF. Here's the continued version. Again. Let's hope for a victory!

I'm not sure how to explain this without sounding like some nut job. Well here goes I love your story and it almost seems to be based on a real experience not that I condone this type of abuse but your story telling is so good you've made me want to hunt down Al and Phil and the other two men and castrate them slowly with the thousand cuts of death this would not be enough but it would be a start. I've been reading your story right along. Sorry I haven't written any comments until now. I will try to more often. Thank you for telling this story.
