It's because you have a crush on him, Roger, that's all. I do like the way you describe his age, though, and the way living that long naturally effects one's memory. You couldn't possibly hope to store all those memories, and while to us it seems natural that you'd have at least tidbits of your beginnings, it's almost impossible to try and imagine how much he's actually been through and then try to put it all in perspective. It's actually kind of a scary thought, for me at least, to think that in at least some ways, you really just don't know who you are or what you've done...maybe he's gotten used to that part though.
I look forward to seeing how he deals with his fascination with Nick though, and maybe if getting more involved in Nick might trigger more memories from his past? The thing he mentioned about something horrible happening in the past though is kind of ominous; it makes me wonder if he had something terrible happen to him last time he cared deeply about someone? Just a wild guess.
I'll admit, I'd peaked into the reviews before ever reading the story, so I already know the Master is going to prove himself to be a bastard, but so far - while there are hints of him being very controlling obviously and on top of everything - I don't quite see the bastardliness showing its true colors...but that opinion is definitely open to change. I wonder, like Roger, what he's going to want with Nick, and kind of look forward to Roger's and the Master's conversation. (Also, poor Roger...got his hopes up that there was another vampire discovered. His reaction really emphasizes how lonely it must be to be one of the last few of your kind in existence and know so very little about yourself at that. He must be so curious but just...out there in blackness with all questions and no answers and no one esle to even really share his situation with him.)
Glad to see Nick is really taking some control of his life and a little self confidence and curiousity...it must have taken a lot of strength to push away those pills, knowing all the things he sees without them. It sounds beyond creepy, but I also understand that he's got a case of missing identity even worse than Roger by a long shot.
And...wow, this review has been going on for ages, pshhhhh, I'll shut up. I enjoyed chapter four, and MAN...Maria still pisses me off. She hurt Lent! I like Lent. I hope she gets hers eventually.

Haha - when Roger first walked back into the bookshop after being out with Nick and immediately faced Mohan's burning eyes, I couldn't help but think: "Busted!" He's like a teenager lumbering in after curfew with that giddy look on his face, and Mohan is the perfect pink-faced, worried sick parent. Ahh, they have such an interesting dynamic.
Roger isn't quite the puppy-eyed, better to beg forgiveness than ask permission youth, though. He doesn't even bother to ask for forgiveness. Still, he is older, and I suppose when you've lived for as long as he has, you learn more to focus on enjoying yourself and keeping things interesting than abiding by the world's rules? Ah well. I still like their friendship, as strange as it is, and I feel kind of sad for Mohan and want the best for him. His human side, at least, seems to have a good heart, and I'm always rooting for that.
Maria annoys me every time she shows up, though I suppose I'm just taking Roger's side on that one; still, I hate lap dogs, and everyone around seems to agree that she's a boot licker. Urgh. The racism that you have going on - the people's distrust and disgust directed towards Roger as a vampire, in particular - is very realistic and interesting, and I liked your description of the feeding encounter, especially how his mind kept shifting back to Nick. I look forward to seeing how you develop this world, and obviously wanna see when they get to see each other again, and maybe find more out about Nick.

Well damn, this is...pretty darn well written. I'm just so surprised you have so few reviews for such an in-depth story. I've only read the first chapter (I sort of half expected to dip my toe in and find some awful mess of a piece), but you've already got me interested. I...love Roger. XD Poor guy; I hate the cold too, so much, and yet, I really like the way he's already fascinated and even defensive of Nick already, despite not even being able to really get to know him. I assume somewhere along the line they'll be able to meet (since this story's so long already gotta know SOMEthing's gonna happen), but his current situation must be so frustrating, following and watching and wondering but not being able to actually speak with him.....ah well. I have hope.
I really wonder who this "master" is, and am frustrated about the amount of control he already seems to have over their lives. Is he like an emperor/king over all magical/mythical races? A really powerful race of some sort? I have to wonder what makes him the master and where exactly he IS, but...yeah. Interesting. I'll try and review again later, as I go along, but don't be disheartened by the small amount of feedback you've been getting; you really are working with some talent here. Room for improvement, sure, but already very well put together. Good work. :)

Yup, Roger is definitely smitten. I still like him though - very much. He seems to be refreshingly playful and free-spirited for a centuries old bloodsucker with a bad rep trapped under the reign of an evil magical overlord. The paper he used intrigues me, and I wonder what other sort of interesting magical nick-nacks you have laid out for this world; I also wonder how Nick managed to resist it after he figured it out. Something to do with whatever he is, I assume, but still. Very curious.
But yeah, working my way through this, and it hasn't disappointed so far. I look forward to seeing how else you develop your already intriguing cast of characters. :]

I laughed throughout Roger's baby portion. I can't believe he sail 'when will they emerge?' and the bit on the stairs about Asesil having eight or nine young. It seemed like when ever he said something about the number of baby's he add a few numbers to his previous total.
I can't wait to see how Niks dream pans out. I have a feeling it will cause some drastic changes to occur. I am also wondering how Mohan is doing as well as Laet. I hope they both will be safe from Andreachi, though I'm thinking there will be an altercation of some sort.
Update soon please!!

You know, we already knew that the Master was a real b*tard but nothing like a little reinforement. Although we do get some hints that he might be just a little too over confident. Should be interesting to see how this all turns out.

Woot! More, more, more, more! I really want to know if Roger's master sends Nick up instead of the usual meal ticket that Roger gets. That'd be interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if Mohan had been a spy from the very beginning and his change was the signal for him to make a run for it, oath to master or not.

A-ah! My heart's breaking; how could you have left us with a cliffhanger?! I still can't tell where this story is heading-- finding out Nick's species seems to be a big part of the plot now, but one can't really build a whole story off of that. Maybe the Master will get overthrown (that would be good; he's too arrogant and contolling). I definitely don't want Nick to start working for him, it would be sorta anticlimactic after trying to be in control of his own life. Thanks for the chapter and keep on writing!

Ugh, I really hate Olecksi (I refuse to refer to him as The Master). What an arrogant prick, dictating Nick's life like that. And what a total bastard for keeping him in that cell as punishment because he tried to escape. Jesus, anyone in their right mind would try to escape when they've been kidnapped. What a pompous ass.
Nick's teleportation ability is SO COOL! It just sucks that he can only use it within the world that he's residing in. But at least he can escape from that nasty cell he's in. I kind of hope he does it again just to spite the bastard. :P If he could travel between worlds, then he could get back home himself and give the one fingered salute to that degenerate and his minions. I really hope that Nick actually does have the ability to go home himself, but just doesn't realize it and doesn't know how to access it yet. I mean, it would be nice to have at least one person (specifically Nick) that's not under Olecksi's thumb. Nick being more powerful than him would give that @sshole a much needed shove off of his high horse. Calling himself The Master; how tacky. He's been playing God for too damn long, and hopefully Nick (and Roger) can give him a reality check and knock him down a few pegs.
Thanks for another great chapter. Update again soon. : )

chapter 1-8. Woo~ you've got me on a marathon here. I love how this story is going. I've been running around in circles in my head on what Nick could be and so far it's not hitting any solid walls. I'm assuming I've got what Mohan is and does that make Laet an incubus? Wait maybe not. I'm anticipating future chapters and I'm drooling over the depth you've put into your chapters. Thanks for the great work and I hope to read more soon.
