I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your grandmother. It sounds like she was quite an interesting lady. I hope that you are holding up OK.
Thank you for posting a nice long chapter. I really liked how you included scenes with all of the different characters and their activities. It looks like Val is not the only elf about to get some human action! Heh.
It is fascinating to think about a vast subterranean city below the city of London, although the thought of trekking through raw sewage and scurrying rats is rather nauseating. I hope that Perran has an elven equivalent of antibiotics on hand for Mary and Val!

Yikes, Val is certainly no damsel in distress in this chapter! I admit that I was as surprised as Mary at the bloodshed. Though I had to laugh at her complaint about his 'unsanitary' licks of her wound, given everything that Val had just done.
Kudos to you for this chapter! It was very, very exciting to read. And I am thrilled that Val and Mary are back together again. I am so looking forward to your next chapter.
